The Simpsons Movie (2007)
The Simpsons have Truly reached The Pit
Here's a metaphor for you
this "film" is a man with a shovel, who finds himself deep in an icy and bitterly cold cavern, with only a fire to keep him from a ghastly and lonesome death.
The fire once burnt so heartily and with such radiance of colour and tender warmth, however those days were long ago, in the time when the number of season had yet to breach into the realm of double figures.
Recent years have seen the fire wither and decay into a quivering and feeble sliver of a flame, emitting a truly pitiful amount of the much needed heat to the man. So, fuelled by his desperation to stay alive (a desperation so intense there was not time for logic or reason) the man proceeding in wildly shovelling vast amounts of his own solid feces, which over the years had accumulated into a neat and adequately sized pile.
He was a strong man who never tired, and was relentless in his rapid shovelling of excrement. Naturally the the fire was extinguished almost immediately, as the bombardment of cheap "jokes" similarly extinguished my burning fire of respect for the franchise.
The mans' fate was inevitable from the start, as was the movies', from the very moment the idea was conceived the stench lurked on the horizon.
I sincerely hope that some noble being will take the honour in dispensing a large quantity of gasoline into the deep and dark pit that the simpsons now inhabit, and after which kneeling down to stroke the head of a match briskly across the rough hide of the trusty steed at their side, and finally lossening their grip and letting it drift down the hole, to kill the Simpson's franchise once and for all, because I fear that more filth like this movie will cast too darker shadow over the earlier gold that made the simpsons a household name, and that people will instead see the Simpsons as the very disease it is shown to be in this "film"
Miami Vice (2006)
FANTASTIC, but If you are unsure what to expect then read this
This is an almost perfect film. It is visually rich and stylish, the plot is a little confusing; mainly because the majority of dialogue is detective jargon, and i think is why a lot of the people who saw it didn't enjoy it, but (as a piece of advice if you are wondering about watching it) the deep meaning of the scene can be found instead through the brilliant acting and involving camera work from Micheal Mann, so don't focus too hard on the confusing dialogue.
I have yet to see the T.V show but i understand that it is a fun "buddy cop" saga, but be warned! Do not have this expectation of the film! There is almost no character development, but this is a good thing in my opinion, because Micheal Mann wanted to portray of the reality of being an undercover cop, which includes not becoming to emotionally linked to your colleagues.
If your a Micheal Mann fan then see it. Miami vice is like heat, but with style
Little Britain (2003)
comedy for zombies
i can't understand why everyone like this except me. Maybe the first show was OK, because you didn't know what to expect and some of the sketches were quite original, but every week it's the same sketches just repeated. The audience are just waiting for the same glorified line but somehow still manage to find it amusing, it is as though everyone has lost their human instinct to adapt or change; instead they are doomed to watch the same one liners and story lines over and over. Maybe everyone has been dumbed down to a point where they just simply don't have the mental capacity to be surprised by something new. I guess the mindless gags suit the taste of the mindless zombies who watch this programme.
Equilibrium (2002)
great idea but.......
This film is quite enjoyable because of the ultra stylish direction and enchanting illumination photography. The action is a bit sloppy, trying to be the matrix but not quite there, (i think a bigger budget would have helped) but the idea of a martial art with guns was just genius! The story idea was equally inventive(it reminded me of v for vendetta with of the dictatorship),but it wasn't consistent through the script, like there were some bits that made no sense e.g "why would he act like that if he didn't have emotions" also the plot wasn't as complex as it potentially could have been. It simply focused on Christian bale's character becoming more and more affected by his emotions (but uses the emotion of love as a fairly descent subplot), and then threw in some ridiculous twists at the end. But the thing that made cringe but also scratch my head was the odd moment where Christian bale's character would try to get the audiences sympathy and act as the gentle, caring hero, like when rescues the puppy or sobs over his beloved red ribbon, and then next minute he he has just mercilessly killed everyone in the room and is mid way through slicing someones face off.
Coogan's Bluff (1968)
starts brilliant , but decays towards the end
the film wastes no time,with a short explosion of character from Clint, who then dives strait into the plot, which started out to be extremely promising and had great potential. Coogan goes to new york to transport a fugitive back to Arizona. it is interesting to see coogan so out of place in new york, as he is mocked for looking like a cowboy. The simple task gets messy, as the criminal escapes. the films tempo continues to rise with the bickering arguments between coogan and the new york police department.
Coogan's character is like dirty harry but with an attitude and with a hint of James bond, as he finds himself bumping into several women during his efforts to find the escaped fugitive. coogan's smooth playful attitude towards women is a very entertaining addition to the plot and his character, but then everything starts to go mindlessly down hill.
coogans initially clever character implications are thrown out the window, as he decides to fall for the woman who but him in hospital and who is the criminals girlfriend, for puzzling reasons, and then he is led blatantly into a trap by the girl, who for some stupid reason he trusted???? I guess this can be vaguely explained by how coogan trusted people back in Arizona, and therefore thinks he can in new york.
The rest of the film is quite absurd, but entertaining, with a motorbike chase scene but the what should have been relaxed ending as the coogan and the criminal share a cigarette's after their battle together was ruined by a stupid woman's eccentric waving to coogan.
