La fiesta del Chivo (2005)
Gripping disclosure of political cruelty and moral degradation
For Dominicans who lived Trujillo's oppressive tyranny, the film, as well as the novel, depicts thoroughly the essence of the regime's cruelty and the human degradation of the period. It is a MUST for Dominicans younger generations. Aside of these historical items, I consider the film well achieved, a thriller in the best sense of the expression, well acted, mainly by supporting cast. I understand thou, that because of the nature of the theme, it could no be not well understood by audiences outside Latin America, especially by moviegoers that prefer another kind of trendy violence, sex and special effects film-making. I am sorry to disagree with voters that give this picture such a low 5 punctuation
Two Girls and a Sailor (1944)
a forever musical worthy of Hollywood's golden era
Saw this delightful musical, filled with great performers: James, Durante, Cugat, Iturbi, and many others, when I was eleven while in New York with my mother in 1944, and never saw it again until today 14 Feb, 2006 in TCM... easy going plot, well articulated with good acting, fine music and mainly everlasting songs... All in all, just great fun all the way... the fine start of June Allyson brilliant career...
What a great feeling to live back those far gone days when even though in war, America was united as ever, with natural sorrow and hardships, but full of dreams, commitment, proud of itself, with high hopes for a better world... Made me nostalgic? Yes indeed!
