Apt Pupil (1998)
Not bad at all.
Wow! I was surprised.
I read the novella, and it was great.
So I bought the film. It was good. Not as good as the book, but enough details from the book were there to make it a decent film.
King books are simply best as books; trying to make films is a real challenge. This is partially due to the large amount of internal monologing, which is hard to put in a film.
But overall, it's a good film.
Midsommar (2019)
The price we must all be prepared to pay for multiculturalism
A phenomenal masterpiece. Yet a tragic tale demonstrating humanity's tendency to indulge in evil.
The film strikes at the core of multiculturalism; it is a must-watch.
The sound and visuals were outstanding.
Interstellar (2014)
Sometimes out of the ashes... a masterpiece is born.
Interstellar is not just a film but a historical accomplishment that will forever be remembered. Firstly, director Christopher Nolan has chosen incredible actors. The story is perfect, you don't even realise how long the movie is until you finish it. Secondly, the music. Gracefully played by the remarkable German musician, Hans Zimmer, the interstellar soundtrack left an outstanding addition to the film. The story was beautifully woven together (again I acknowledge Nolan and his crew) when cooper leaves earth-- and his father, son and daughter, his daughter in particular wants him to stay-- to find a new home for the planets inhabitants. He discovers that they were not meant to return to earth but rather start their own colonization on a new planet. Overall, cooper and his accomplices in space travel through wormholes/blackholes and at one point at the end, cooper seems to be doomed to die, he enters the "5th dimension". Where seemingly he can communicate with his daughter on earth. In the end he is saved by oher travellers and brought to a space station where he sees his daughter one last time --in space time has traveled slower for cooper then on earth and his daughter is much older than him. But an incredible story with a fascinating plot. I will never forget this film.
The Fate of the Furious (2017)
Better then I expected.
Excluding the unrealistic physics of the film, (like all of them) e.g. cars driving up ramps into planes at very high speeds and somehow coming to a slow halt without destroying itself, the story was excellent. I felt it was inevitable that one of the gang would turn on the rest, but this was done cleverly with leverage on Dom T, in the sense that he wasn't betraying them, but at the same time he was because he had to. The action was awesome with more surprises and sneaking around, a delicious satisfying meal for the viewer. It ended well with the typical, never dying, "family" theme. A must watch of the franchise!
The Legend of Tarzan (2016)
What went wrong with the animation???
I'm not going to comment on the story side of things as it was actually fine, a bit cheesy but fine; it was the animation at the end of the film that lowered my respect for it FAST. At the end tarzan is chased by some kind of creatures, but these creatures had been so poorly edited, that I was cringing in my seat. Ugh! Just don't expect jungle book 2016 kind of animation!
[Rec] 4: Apocalipsis (2014)
7.5. An excellent finale, don't expect too much, and you will be surprised!
Rec 4 somewhat links with the 3rd film, as one or two characters from the wedding are on a ship at sea with television reporter Angela, and a crew of scientists attempting to find a cure for the disease. It was the best of the franchise to me as the setting was far more isolated then the other films: increasing the tension and the disaster which could unfold if the virus broke out on board the ship (which of course it did). However, the film provided plenty of adventure and action with less horror (jumpscares) then the other films, which was a pleasant break from zombies jumping out of Shadows all the time. The adventure to the film inclined when the scientists started looking through Angela's camera footage from the first film in order to discover more of the virus: how it lives on through a host by inserting a (worm?) creature inside him/her. Great film, it's way underrated at 5.4.
[Rec]³: Génesis (2012)
If you love extreme gore, this is for you.
The sudden change from the previous two films was not what I expected: however, the film did not disappoint. Rec 3 is about the extents (chopping off heads with chainsaws and messing up faces with blenders) a just married couple -like seriously just married- will go to to see eachother again in an infected, zombie infested wedding ground. Like I said, if you like the gore, then this is for you.
Daredevil (2015)
7. Most overrated show on TV. Needs work.
What is all the hype about? I'm shocked that this show made it to 8.7! The first season has one good episode about Fisk's past which was excellent but the rest of the episodes are corny and the characters are so annoying, especially Foggy's nickname ("Foggy bear"). If you thought this was good, Gotham the TV show will knock your socks off! Danny
Cannon understands good quality acting and knows how to avoid clichés!
Gotham (2014)
Most well written and directed show I have ever seen
There's not much to say about Gotham, you either love it or -somehow- dislike it. It's amazing choice of actors for the characters and constant supply of unending suspense are what give it it's reputation. No show deserves 10/10, otherwise it is perfect. However Gotham gets the closest to perfect you can get. It definitely deserves 9 stars.
