Upstream Color (2013)
Meaningless and Empty
I'm sure the viewer is supposed to seek deep meanings in this indescribable film. If I cared for any of the characters I might try to find some meaning. But the only characters that invite emotional connection are the pigs. The human characters are empty and there is no sense of direction or plot. Oh yes, I'm sure it's supposed to be non-linear and other catchwords of the postmodern cliche. Well, there have been many other films that are non-linear that are far more involving than this. Last Year at Marienbad immediately comes to mind, but compared to the characters in this film, the characters in Marienbad provide an emotional roller-coaster! I'm not saying that emotional connection is the be-all and end-all of a film, but there was nothing that I could connect with in this film. I watched it to the end to see if there was anything that would bring it all together. No such luck.
Doctor Who: Praxeus (2020)
Almost impossible to watch
A poor episode overall made much worse by unbearable "music" soundtrack. Relentless throbbing techno music, extremely repetitive, making it almost impossible to hear dialogue - not that the dialogue was worth hearing. This episode highlights again just how bad the Chibnall regime has been. The music has taken a huge hit in the two series that Chibnall has given us. Is he intent on destroying the show for good? Is he the Trump of BBC?
Zoo: The Barrier (2017)
Horrible ending to a very bad season 3
I was hoping this would be the end of the series, but no, it clearly will go on for another season, with a new heightened version of the same threat that made this season so poor. But I will not watch any future season, I'm done with this series. The writing got worse with each episode in season 3. Abigail has to be one of the worst and most poorly written roles ever in a TV series, and Jackson this year was almost as bad. Their scenes together were outrageously bad. As another user review pointed, Logan was just about the only sympathetic character this season.
Aftermath (2016)
These actors can't even speak, never mind act!
Many others have commented on the horrible acting and writing in this disaster, so I won't add to what has been written here already. But has anyone pointed out the inability of these "actors" to actually enunciate? This is a trend with SyFy now, but it's especially acute in this series. I can't understand more than 10% of what Anne Heche pretends to speak. She mumbles - the kindest way I can describe her attempts at speaking. And her fellow "actors" are not much better. Perhaps I should be grateful that I can't understand much of the dialogue, since the show is so poorly written, and SyFy close captioning is hit or miss - but I watched about 4 episodes before I finally gave up. Did any of the credited directors actually direct these episodes? Is there any quality control at SyFy these days?
