The Covenant (2023)
Sadly missed the mark
I was expecting a 10/10 hardcore Jake masterpiece... after watching the trailer. But sadly the trailer was pretty much the whole story and was the best performance. Strangely, Dar Salim outperformed Jake in this one. His acting was superb and oscar worthy. Jakes was poorly directed and overacting. It felt like Guy Richie left Jake to direct himself for whatever reason, perhaps in the terms of contract. You could clearly see Jake was improvising and over using trademark expressions that came across as overly exploited Jake Gyllenhaal lines creases and facial expressions. The only scene that really captulated emotions was the "I have a hook" scene which is in the trailer. So hardly a spoiler alert.
The entire movie is good. But my compliments go to Dar Salim for brilliant performance!
Warrior (2011)
On the top of my list
Ok confession first, this is one of my personal favourites. When i saw this movie on circuit, i honestly had never heard of it. Plus i am definetly not a fan of boxing or martial art movies. I paid to see Nick Nolte and Tom Hardy because id seen everything else. What i got for my money was one of the greatest movies of (my) all time. I dont cry, i dont cry in movies and i dont cry at funerals or weddings. But i had a tear in this movie which was an unusual feeling for me. Just an incredible writing and performances by Nolte and Hardy in prticular that involves fractured and damaged emotional mental health of Hardy who seems to be self destructing. Together with his father who is one bender away from losing it completely. Is all so well played out and so bell made. All time classic.
The View (1997)
Disgusting Awful!
An awful panel of irrelevant mean nasty individuals who represent an every dwindling minority of hateful anti Americans. I cannot see this show in its current format of hating misinformation remaining on the air for much longer. The sooner it is cancelled, the better. It has only one purpose, and that is dividing and fueling hatred. Why on earth is it still alowd to create law suites and civil claims, yet still remain on air. Moonfall (2022)
What a ride! what a story!
Its absolutly impossible to rate this 5.1 ?? Did i just watch a different movie??
I loved this from start to finish. Brilliant story twist and turns, with a ending that blows your socks off. Perfect cast and great direction. Fantastic effects make it one of the best Sci Fi movies of the decade. Yes, its kind of goofy and semi comedic, but that is what its meant to be. On the genre of Mars Attacks - goofy and comedic with a solid story. I cant really fault this movie. It could be that the very fast pace in timeline confused a few viewers if they were too long in the popcorn bucket, but the movie need to cram in a lot of information in a short space of time.
Really good entertainment!
Pan (2015)
Loved It!
What a hidden gem. Brilliant version of the classic fairy tale that is artistically done with superb performances from everyone. Well done to all involved.
The Nightingale (2018)
Brilliant
Can't fault this with top top performances from everyone. The justice could have been more interesting if I had to fault, but the nett result is really immaterial taking its entirety into account. Brilliant.
Silverton Siege (2022)
Freedumb fighters criminals and narratives
A dough of BAD script. Lies, and make believe mixed together with a true crime story, that tried to make a loaf of a now proven sack of nonsence.
Netflix should pleases stop making movies that create division through lies and false naratives. The story could have been told truthfully as a crime foiled by commendable police work. Criminals are Criminals and should never be glorified, especially for entertainment and profit.
The Informer (2019)
Best watch in ages.
One of those amazing surprises you get from watching a brilliant movie you have never heard of. Add this to the list of gripping well acted masterpieces.
No Sudden Move (2021)
Collection of experienced reliable performers
Solid 6 for this movie. Original plot with honest performances all round. Not in the excellant scale but rates well in entertainment value. The big surprise really got me! Wink wink.. watch it and youll find out.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Metaphor to Democrat and liberal politics
Cleverly put together satire at how modern liberal and democrat policies are destroying the planet with the comet being Joe Biden. Brilliantly done! Eat the poor, destroy the planet, crazy son Hunter, nut job president.
The Card Counter (2021)
Sleek and uncomplicated
Worthy of admittance fee, average entertainment with interesting characters.
Jungle Cruise (2021)
GOOD FUN.
The worst thing i did was read the IMDB reviews before watching this movie. The rating was 5.5. And reviews sucked! Now ive watch it i can add my 6.5. (can only go 6 but i would give it a 6.5)
Its a Disney movie! A great entertainment value special effects, storyline and family value suspenseful joyride.
Its not a classic top 10 all time but an above average Pirates of the Caribbean type enjoyable flick.
Fox News Live (2000)
Most honest news in America
What i love is Fox news abiding by truth and facts. Not like cnn and msnbc and other fake news political propaganda channels that continuously broadcast lies and fake stories. Fox is straight forward and 100% fact.
Pig (2021)
Its confusing
The first 10 minutes are interesting and had promise. From then on it was confusing, too simplistic and down right dumb. It got to the point where if i heard "where is my pig" one more time id do my head in.
Lastly, take a bath, clean yourself up. Who walks around looking like a mountain man with a head would. It was just plain bonkers.
My take, ok bordering crap.
Wrath of Man (2021)
Full Bore Cash Boom Bang
Everything about this movie is superb. Right up to the final credits wink wink*
Popcorn + Coke + Strap yourself in. Number of prisoners taken... zero.
Aloha (2015)
Just Brilliant
Emma Stone are Bradley Cooper shining in this quirky unexpected love story bound up in a triangle of great story telling simply written to uncomplicated an enjoyable saga. Brilliantly casted and excellently written, superbly directed.
The Woman in the Window (2021)
Thanks You Netflix! Again.
Fantastic movie. Cinematography outstanding, script outstanding, plot outstanding, directed well.. solid 7.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Surprise Surprise.. What a great movie.
Saw the trailer, heard it was good and can assure you its great. A journey of one man and his companion to far surpasses all expectations of this masterpiece.
It has its minor flaws, which are overlooked seconds later by another epic saga either in space or the awesome arctic backdrop. The entire film keeps the audience in the popcorn box and to be honest, could have watched another hour. Only complaint is it should have been longer. Well done Mr. Clooney.
Dark Waters (2019)
Everything that's wrong with the world
Superb acting by Ruffalo who gave 100% effort exposing the capitalists guilty of destroying an entire district for financial gain. Shame on them! What makes this even more shocking is the time and effort it took to get them to admit it. Which was well played out by the excellent work done by casting director. It makes me wonder why it is a "movie" that highlighted this atrocity. Why is this not household knowledge. Why aren't we boycotting their products. Why!
6 Underground (2019)
What more could you possibly want
Ryan Reynolds gone full Ryan Reynolds. Well, its mostly about Ryan Reynolds so if you are not a Ryan Reynolds fan, then you are one of the bad reviewers.
I must admit, I got a bit confused in the beginning with past and present crisscrossing but the action scenes and awesome humour in between took care of that. Its brilliantly directed, has brilliant action with outstanding gloriously hilarious humour. Watch out for more Michael Bay + Ryan Reynolds collaborations in the future. Its one of those movies YOU HAVE TO WATCH
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
One of my Tarantino picks
Get all the top actors together, throw in a great script and get Tarantino to cook it and Vee-OH-laaa! Perfectly put together with interesting characters, brilliant acting topped off with a climactic finale that will have you applauding with acceptation. Definitely worthy of a mention at the awards and wouldn't be surprised I they took some home.
Ad Astra (2019)
Apocalypse Then
If i hadn't seen Apocalypse Now, then this would have been an interesting concept.... wink wink... The similarities are ridiculous. Right down to the basic fundamentally flawed common denominator being yawning... eyes close...sleep.. wake up...sleep. I had to watch Ad Astra 3 times to finish it.
So from the get go, it felt like i was watching a rip off of Charlie Sheen vs Marlon Brando Space Odyssey 2019, but soon realized it was also a comic reproduction of Mr. Bean Holiday segment of the highly pretentious auteur director Willem Dafoe (Carson Clay) constantly and annoyingly waffling off to selfie poses and art noir with dramatist sound tracks. The movie felt more like a Brad Pitt portfolio aimed at punting prospective directors for upcoming blockbusters releases. If this movie wins any awards at the Oscars or Golden Globes, ill throw a brick through the TV.
Unbelievable (2019)
Binge worthy brilliance.
Perfect casting of Toni Collette, Merritt Wever, and Kaitlyn Deve resulted in a crime classic that had me binge out on the entire series in 3 days. First time I've done that since Making a murderer. Which also happens to be Netflix ..coincidently.
Kaityn Deve congrats on a pure 100% performance. Tough subject material yet you managed to pull it off with an Oscar performance. Outstanding from everyone in fact. My only criticism is the last 30 min of the last episode, which could have been cut entirely. As for the whole series...solid 9 from me for this.
Murder Mystery (2019)
An offering to the garbage pile
Short and sweet... Absolute rubbish. If you make it to the end, then you have never seen a genuine 6.6 + rated movie in your life, unless you are bored shttiiless eating ice-cream and Xanax.
Glass (2019)
Yes, OK, Maybe
Short review; A little disappointing but not entirely a flop. Was expecting Unbreakable + Slip = popcorn!.. instead got weird story line, actors got paid, production got noticed, an entertaining assemblage of names selling the possibility of two previous cinematic masterpieces, resulting in a script with half the oomph.
James Macavoy held the movie together with outstanding performance. What ruined it was the story. Its just bad!
