The Fall Guy (2024)
Fun but...
This was entertaining and fun ... as long as it wasn't the scenes with Colt and Jody's sappy dialogues. It was almost painful to watch.
Those bits seemed like such a badly written romedy script.
The rest was quite fun but not much time given to build the villain's story or around the mystery plot.
I watched the original series when I was too young to remember it much so I'm not sure if this one does any justice to it. It made me want to try and find reruns of it.
Loved watching the stunts (which is worth watching on the big screen) and all and Hannah W is pretty great. Soundtrack was good too!
Kung Fu Panda 4 (2024)
Copy-pasted character and script
This was a great franchise but I think it's time they ended it if they're going to resort to cliches, stereotypes, recycled bits and copy/pasted stuff.
(Am I the only one that noticed that the pangolin looked and sounded like Sid from ice age?)
I get that it's a children's movie but it was extremely predictable.
It had lot of potential but didn't work.
It would have been nice to have more Shifu, rather than this out of character part where he says a new dragon warrior needs to be chosen by Po overnight (after watching them do a talent exhibit) when he himself had to go through major tests to get there.
Finally, the underground crooks glorifying violence and doing the "right thing for the wrong reasons" isn't a great thing to tell today's kids.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023)
Pretty good except for...
I actually enjoyed this movie despite having some inhibitions. I wasn't a fan of the poster... the fingernail hand does look like Shrek's rather than turtles'. But they put in a shrek joke which was kind of funny - much of the humour was quite good. The animation style was cooler than I expected except for some highly distorted human faces. I was getting tired of the glitchy Spider-verse style and this was somewhat better.
However, I was not a fan of the changes to the story - splinter's backstory is lame, his love interest at the end is totally gross, not sure if making April a teenager was a great idea but it worked for this film. I liked the mutanimals' role but Bebop & Rocksteady weren't originally part of them or in their team so that was another change.
Overall, it was a fun and enjoyable film... much better than the bizarre "rise of the ninja turtles" where they have some mystic powers! I hope they make more in the series - with the shredder (but without changing his origin story much!).
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
Not as good as part one
Was excited for this film but it was quite disappointing - not as clever or witty as the previous film despite having Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu (she could've have such great lines!).
It's quite sad that all superhero films seem to follow the same formula: evil gods after some power/relic, hero losing something, sacrifice etc etc.
Would be nice to have something fresh.
That being said, Zachary Levi is fun as Shazam. Although I never understood how he's funny and clumsy but as the boy version he's morose and serious! The wizard and the youngest sibling were also good. A bit too much profanity for a movie that children might otherwise enjoy.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Decent but visuals are too glitchy
It was a decent movie sequel to the last one but...
This might be an unpopular opinion but I'm not a fan of the spider verse type of animation. It was cool and unique at first in part 1 but the undefined and blurry edges and glitching is really a strain on my brain. It cannot be good for anyone who suffers from epilepsy.
It's like they took everyone's version of each scene and just superimposed them so there are like 3 colours in each edge and several edges and no one has colored within the lines!
It was also really loud and glitchy.
Getting a bit tired of extremely disobedient child superheroes too. Guess I'm just too old school.
Hollywood Darlings (2017)
Nostalgic and hilarious
This is a really fun and funny show in which these actresses make fun of themselves and their memorable characters. It also has so much nostalgia with other guest stars from shows from the 80s.
It's light hearted comedy and I wish they could've done a lot more and had many more guest stars. There are times we want the 80s back but with some present day mood and that's exactly what this brings. I especially liked seeing that they are friends and are friends with other child stars.
If you liked the wholesome shows from that era, you'll like this one.
And these lines are because I need thirty more characters to make this review count.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
A lot of fun!
I went in expecting it to be terrible thanks to the reviews but honestly, What's not to enjoy? It had a lot of dinosaurs, lots of exciting action scenes, plenty of throwbacks to the original... so fun to the original cast!
Maybe the villain or plot wasn't too elaborate but it still was a good dinosaur movie with lessons to learn.
A través de mi ventana (2022)
Yet another film about children in toxic relationships
Why are there so many stories with this "fall for the bad boy and change him for the better" theme? And it was extra awful to watch because she looks 12. Skipped all the way through to the dumb idealistic ending.
Swept Away (2002)
Not swept away
I still don't understand why a legend like Madonna made a movie like this one.
It was bad acting and dialogue all around. Her treatment of staff was ghastly and way too over the top unless it was meant to mock people who do this. And honestly, I could've done without all the smacking around. It was so pointless - how on earth did that love story even happen? Or was it just a Stockholm syndrome thing? I just fast forwarded a lot of bits and finished it so it wouldn't show up on my "continue watching" list.
No Time to Die (2021)
Not the way to end one of the best Bonds!
It was an alright movie - the stars are for how good DC looks in a suit, the tiny bit with Ana de Armas and the line "those come with fur".
They however did remove the essence of what makes Bond Bond and ended this franchise on a disappointing note. What's with the alter-007 and the over-dramatic love story? I wish this got a do over.
Midnight Mass (2021)
The blasphemy and heresy monologues
The 2 stars are for the beautiful island shots and the actors' abilities to listen to another rambling on and on episode after episode. Hollywood loves taking Bible verses out of context but this one takes the cake. It has gone all out in twisting the meaning and history of the Bible and church history. Although they did get right the self-righteous awful psycho ending up being afraid of the light in the end.
