The Little Mermaid (2023)
Dull, boring and pointless.
Watched this tonight to make my own opinions on the movie. Got to see I don't see the point apart from alternative casting of Ariel. The original is and always will be leaps and bounds better because it has the flare and childlike magic of the age. In this remake they changed songs, changed lyrics, changed scenes just to make a point if showing some sort of progression.
Gone are the days of golden age cinema. Shame really.
Melissa mcCarthy was awesome though. The cgi was pretty damn incredible. But again, I don't see the point in fixing something that isn't broken just to make a point.
Boring.
The Zone of Interest (2023)
Pretentious tripe
I enjoy a good historical drama and had heard good things about zone of interest. After 2 hours however, I find it hard to understand where these good reviews are coming from. The film is about a Nazi that runs Aushwitz death camp. It's about his family. The film is just a look at a family living over the fence of the death camp. At the beginning I was intrigued. After 30 minutes I was bored. After an hour I was annoyed. When the film ended I was angry.
It was a complete waste of time. Kubrik styled shots. Harrowing soundscapes of screams, engines, fires and gunshots.
Characters get up in the morning. Play. Eat. Sleep
Repeat.
It really was a pointless film with little to say. If your looking for a film that gives you a fraction of the feeling of the horror that took place, watch Schinlders List.
One Piece (2023)
Ruined by Koby Actor
I can't get passed the bloody awful acting of Koby. It is the ONLY thing that ruins the show for me.
The effects, story and over all feel of the show is fantastic. As someone who hasn't read the manga I loved the door this has opened for me. I have already ordered them to.deepndive.
But alas, like I said, something is off with Koby and the acting. It was all note the entire series. Sad really as I feel with the correct casting, koby could have been great. Luffy, zoro and the others where fantastic however. Really looked the part. Felt the part. The effects where amazing. Buggy was deffo a favourite.
Evil Dead Rise (2023)
Excellent
As a hardcore fan of the evil dead franchise, Cronin did a fantastic job of this. It's a new story for a new era, exactly what we needed. Most fans here are twisted that the old cabin is gone, hence the low scores. Let evil dead with Campbell be what they are; excellent and masterpieces. But this, was a new twist that I massively enjoyed. The a ting from all of the cast was excellent. The scenes were beautifully shot and we'll done. Some of the best effects I've seen in a very long time. I winced, I laughed in parts but over all I was blown away by the new story and nods to the lore of the past.
For those saying this should be a shudder original..... Get a grip.
Honeydew (2020)
Forks
While watching this film, I kept looking at the forks in the kitchen and thought, maybe if I jam one in my eye, it will make this more enjoyable.
Boring, dull, waste of time.
I think poor son of Spielberg got a short straw. Maybe trying to start from the ground up. He wasn't bad, may have been better in something else. I hope to see him in something more worth while.
The film itself was like an art students idea of being edgey. It was just boring, long pointless shots, ridiculous silent scenes, little story. It lost me as soon as the car broke down and the dialogue was like something from the back of a cereal box.
Nope (2022)
Peeles best yet
I haven't really liked Jordan Peeles last few films apart from Get Out. But this was incredibly chilling and very well done. The pacing the story telling, the visuals where really creepy and terrifying. I need to see it again. I won't say anyhring to sppil it but I absolutely loved the entire film. More of this Jordan. Less of the weird cryptic Jordan.
Day Shift (2022)
Boring clone of every other vampire movie
The trailer shows the best part of the entire movie. Jamie fox carried the entire show. Dave Franco can't act. Snoop was a pointless character that was obviously in the movie because its snoop.
Same story, different actors.
The same story as all vampire films really, but this time we end by taking the ex wife and daughter of the hero to an underground aztec altar, for no reason whatsoever.
Unfortunately, the same churned out box ticked movie.
Lightyear (2022)
Excellent
Don't understand the bad reviews. It's a kids film yeah, but I enjoyed it. The animation, the story and the laughs were top notch. I'm giving it a ten just to annoy those who exaggerated their low scores. I'd give it an 8 to be honest.
Her (2013)
I'd count grains of salt than watch this art-bull
Don't waste your time. This is one of those films that your friends' well travelled, eccentric brother oozes about over his bowl of vegan meatballs.
The script is ridiculous. The story, predictable. It is pretentious arthouse babble at its worst. If you ever want to watch this film, get a coconut and try peeling it with your toes. That will be way more appealing and interesting.
Nothing happens. It's just some weird guy with no back story, moping around about his divorce and pulling his chicken to Scarlet Johansens voice at night after a hard day writing letters for other people.
John Dies at the End (2012)
Incredible Book, awful adaptation
It's a real shame this wasn't picked up and made into a series. It just does not work as a 90 minute film.
The books quirky, neon bright ridiculousness just doesn't come onto the screen as it should. It's very rushed, pretty low budget ( which I admit, shouldn't matter if done right.) But ultimately, it doesn't work.
Aftermath (2021)
Laughable
Theres a goth in the attic.
It was so funny to watch and also hard to gauge how the film was supposed to come across to the viewer. Because it was so hilarious. It was like 10 different movies rolled into one. Then that one movie was pushed off a cliff.
At one point, the dog died, I dont think this was even in the script. I think the dog genuinely wanted out of this film and killed itself.
As for the acting. Well there was an over abundance of it. Ive never seen someone actually acting to put across that they are doing nothing. Everyone had exceptional hair. Waking from a long sleep, lip gloss on and hair sitting perfect. The scenes that were supposed to be in darkness (I think?) Where so well lit that when the character lifted a torch, I thought it was a parody movie. The film and every single scene was ridiculous to the point where it made me laugh.
It was like a YouTube movie. Absolutely rubbish.
His House (2020)
Excellent and Different
This blew my mind. I absolutely loved this film.and it became an instant favourite. From the underlying story to the incredible effects it was a joy to watch. It also genuinely freaked me out and scared me in parts. Excellent acting and all round a bloody brilliant film. More of this please.
