The Siege of Firebase Gloria (1988)
Not bad and seemingly realistic
As a non military film watcher this is a decent action war film. From the many other comments from real ex-soldiers I'm led to believe it is a very realistic portrayal of what went on and if that is true...it's a truly awful and frightening situation. The acting is a bit poor in some places with some truly hammy and mediocre performances away from the action. Lastly, it's one of THE worst film 'music' soundtracks you'll ever hear but typical of the year the film was made. All that said, an enjoyable action war movie with some excellent combat scenes.
Johnny English Strikes Again (2018)
As unfunny as it gets
I've just scrolled through a long list of 9/10's and 10/10's for this truly dreadful and unfunny load of rubbish and find it hard to believe those reviews are genuine. As a fan of these films and Rowan Atkinson himself, it pains me to have to admit this is absolutely awful. I honestly didn't laugh once, smiled a couple of times but that was it. Don't bother sitting through this, you'll thank me for the advice, trust me. I think this must be the end of the Johnny English story once and for all.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
Great film and that's the bottom line
There's something happening recently on IMDB that I haven't yet got to the bottom of or fully understand the reasons for...and it's the huge amount of negative reviews posted (for this and so many other films) that are clearly deliberately false and critical. It never used to be like that. For example, I'm not a Star Wars fan but just happened to have seen many of them just because I like watching films and this one is right up there at the top. That's an objective and unbiased fact. The point being is that there is no possible way that a film like this could genuinely attract so many 1/10 and 2/10 scores unless there was some deliberate plan to flood the IMDB ratings systems in such a way as to skew the overall results. But why? Are people getting paid to submit false low score reviews and if so paid by who? And for what reason? If anyone can explain what is behind all this and knows what's going on then please elaborate. Finally, this is a great action film full of excitement in its own right irrespective of any connection it has with the Star Wars thing.
American Animals (2018)
Well made and watchable
I read someone else's review that described this film as a cringe-fest of stupidity and as far as what goes on, it's an accurate summary. At the end of the day, the people depicted in the film are real and it's a completely true story so you just have to hang on, squirm a little (a lot actually) and marvel at...well, a cringe-fest of stupidity. Just watch the film, enjoy and be thankful you're not part of the gang. Thoroughly entertaining as a film and definitely worth watching.
Southern Comfort (1981)
What?!? This truly is utter garbage folks.
Goodness, it's been a long, long time since I've seen anything this bad. Stupid, clueless, American soldiers swearing and arguing between each other for most of the film whilst getting slowly picked off by a bunch of...well I don't even know what to call them. They probably think the world is flat if it helps to describe them. A film so ridiculous you'll just have to watch it yourself to fully appreciate how idiotic this bunch of trained(?) soldiers behave. And I mean, absolutely hopeless. One soldier who has some need to constantly move a wooden cocktail stick around the inside of his mouth while he is talking (what is that actually about and why?) gets killed quite early on which was a welcome relief. I couldn't wait for the rest of the foul mouthed brain dead bunch to meet their maker too. I sincerely hope that this is not a true reflection of how the American military really are because if it is God help us.
