Miller's Girl (2024)
A mesmerizing film
Yes this film captured my attention from the get-go. The banter in first meeting with the gifted student played by the very adult sophisticated student Ms. Ortega, must have been a godsend for the teacher. Very entertaining the playing between the adults and gifted students, almost reminds me of the very beautiful and entertaining History Boys. The other reviews were cruel and boring where do these dull people live? Do they have any lives at all to wake them up? I am only half way through but I am looking forward to the balance, I hope it fails like the other reviewers say but I have patience and a positive outlook I will not be disappointed, as I am not a pessimist.
Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016)
Hilarious brilliant acting
The two stars of this film are brilliant along with the director. All I want to stress is it was a film that managed to charm an old coot like me. The young actor Julian Dennison is so lovable in his chubby body and expressive faces he has a great future. Sam Neil a seasoned actor should be proud of his work in this film , he is gruff but very believable as an inept father figure.. New Zealand displays its lush interior which makes me want to view it for myself. The characters are in abundance in this part of the world. The foster mum though I forget her name shows a tenderness and understanding that melts your heart.
Saltburn (2023)
Am I a prude?
After living a long life I appreciate being able to still be shocked. Saltburn did that to me. The film is often provocative in scenes more so surrounded by the opulence of such a grand estate of Saltburn. The acting is wonderfully professional with Cary Mulligan again proving she can do more than looking cute. It contains subject matter that intimates, "anything goes" in their world of depravity, money and a dash of lunacy. There is subject matter which I was not expecting which gave me a jolt but kept me riveted until the very end, after seeing the film you will understand. It is a very complex plot but very entertaining to say the least with a last dance scene that ended up for the closing of the film. The female director has a colourful future based on this film since I was totally unfamiliar with her work beforehand.
Toscana (2022)
Boring
This film had some potential but sadly did not live up to the possibilities. It failed especially in its direction and the lead actor was a bad choice in my opinion. A similar film that did remind me of what could have been achieved was with Russell Crowe, A Beautiful Year which also had a story of love and what can be achieved with someone with talent and love.
A Very British Scandal (2021)
A dull reenactment
The producers had a choice for this production but dropped the ball ending with a dull less glamorous depiction of this colourful real~life Duchess. While Foy provided excellent acting the wardrobe department was less impressive with a lacklustre display of a rich woman's wardrobe of wealth during the sixties .
