Devil's Cove (2018)
A mixture of Shocksploitation horror, and brilliant psychological thriller!
I did not know what to expect when watching this film. I had been told it was a mixture of " Thelma and Louise" crossed with "Monster" - This was true to some extent yet the film also brings a unique story of its own. While on the surface it may come across as a little campy and horror like it contains an incredible twist that I did not see coming. It also portrays the relationship between the two protagonists on a deep psychological level. Chloe Traicos is radiant as the evil Jackie McGann. It is hard to take your eyes from her as she moves across the screen like a tiger ready to pounce on her next victim. Her gutsy, volatile performance is one that viewers will not easily forget. Christelle Baguidy is very good as the seemingly mild Toni Duval, later in the movie it is revealed that she too has claws. The two girls portray a gorgeous sexual chemistry on screen that is truly amazing to watch. I thought this film was great and think it could certainly start a cult following amongst the horror fanatics. My one criticism was the use of the dream sequences that seemed a little out of place in comparison with the rest of the story. On the whole a brilliant piece that I fully recommend.
The Mask of Zorro (1998)
Brilliant!!
I believe it was after watching this movie that Michael Douglas famously approached Catherine Zeta Jones with the line " I want you to have my children" and you can see why. Zeta Jones is truly radiant in this role, a true beauty. Her acting is flawless and despite the fact she was relatively unknown at the time she stands up well against the amazing Antonio Banderas. I've seen this movie countless times and don't think I do it justice enough in reviewing it and calling it a "classic" It's a truly amazing story along the old style, action adventure theme of a thief seeking revenge for his brother, and ends up being trained by the great Zorro. Funny in some parts, intense in others, it is a wonderful movie that I would fully recommend.
Monster (2003)
Brilliant, frightening and heartbreaking......
This movie affected me on so many levels. It was so brilliantly done. The performances were intense and so believable I found myself crying in parts. What is a sign of brilliant acting is the fact that Charlize Theron succeeded in making us sympathize with her character despite the fact her character was a cold blooded killer. In fact in the attempted rape scene where she retaliates and murders the man I was silently cheering. To say Charlize Theron deserved that Academy Award is an understatement her performance is so flawlessly brilliant that she's barely recognizable as the blonde beauty she is in real life. This movie is frighteningly brutal in it's honesty. I cannot recommend it enough!
