Beautiful Boy (2018)
So much was missing
Had thought we'd give it a chance after reading a few reviews. We didn't see the high rated film some of you claimed to see. Totally missed the mark on the emotional turmoil the family unit is dragged thru over and over and over again with an addict in it midst. There were no real consequences for Nic's behavior. He stole, lied when confronted and all is forgiven because they didn't want to judge him. That is not real-life. Or I should say, not real for a large majority of families. An argument with the ex on the phone, a very poor attempt of trying tough love, a father making it clear he wants to be a friend rather than a parent and that about covers it. None of us believe this deserve an oscar or an award. at best it is a made for TV movie.
First Reformed (2017)
Ethan Hawke gives outstanding performance
If nothing else, this certainly does give you much to consider and definitely makes for interesting conversation. This movie grips your attention, literally pulls you in and keeps you focused thru out BUT we did feel "robbed" by the finale. It feels as though there wasn't an ending strong enough so the director simply stated "cut"! Yes we are led to believe he drank the drano and died while imagining himself in loving arms. Of course everyone is relieved he didn't follow thru with the suicide vest, not because Balq didn't deserve to be take out in that manner but due to so many innocent people being in attendance. None of us felt there was chemistry with Mary most likely due to his powerful performance as a devote priest. In our opinion this was the story of a grieving father. Nothing could save him.
Unsane (2018)
Very Impressed
Claire Foy is very impressive. Unsane gives you the opportunity to see just how talented she really is. Plus the fact that this was filmed on an iPhone 7 makes it even more impressive. Nothing is spared so expect many more films at greatly reduced production costs. The film itself pulls you back and forth with the suspense of reality vs delusion but no spoilers from me.
We don't understand where such low ratings come from as we really enjoyed this.
Red Sparrow (2018)
Awesome movie,. Cold War Thriller!
Great spy plot that has you on the edge of your seat until the end. You won't be sleeping thru this one. Even better is that it is the first of a trilogy. Cannot wait for the next 2 to be released. The icing on the cake is a retired member of DOJ wrote the series so appears more fact than fiction. Sparrows are real Russian operatives and trained to use their wiles just as Dominika does in the film. As has been proven over the many decades, female Russian spies are first taught the art of seduction. It is how they rise within the ranks as well.
Jennifer Lawrence excels as lead actress. Hopefully she will also appear in the next 2 films. All the casting was great. I can see that many Russian bots are trying to pull the ratings down with ridiculous claims. Don't let them deter you, check Red Sparrow out for yourself. I believe you will give it the minimum review of 8 out of 10 and watch it at least twice, yes it is that Good!
Flint Town (2018)
A definite MUST SEE!!
Awesome series! A real eye opener on what is happening STILL in Flint. Everyone across the nation, in fact most likely everyone across North America knows about the disgusting, lethal water in Flint. This series takes you to actual day to day life struggles in Flint thru the eyes of some men and women in blue. The real people trying to keep the community together with only 1/3 the manpower. Amazing people make up the police force and any city would be thankful to have them watching over their neighborhoods. It is such a shame to see how they each give so much of themselves to only get knocked back down again and again by the corrupt city council! Absolutely disgusting!! It really is a must see for everyone.
Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017)
SO Disappointing,. beyond terrible!!
I can only imagine that the reviews of over 3 are as a joke. HaHaHA, Yes I was a fool that took them serious and wasted our Saturday night and $6.99 to rent it. Really try to remain open minded when seeing an actor trying to break out in a different direction. We were really hopeful that Vaughn's attempt at an action role would open the door to a lot more roles for him - NOT. This is pathetic. I honestly can't even rate it as a B. Sorry Vince, I'm sure you are extremely embarrassed and can certainly see why. I really stretched this 2 to give it a 3.
