Star Trek: Picard (2020)
I don't understand the high reviews
This is not start trek, this is just weak story writing and editing hiding behind a well established franchise. Wouldn't it be great if a TV show, movie, film...could just be entertaining without being woke?
Stay Close (2021)
Inconsistent Themes
Starts out dark and intense and then flips to ridiculous cheesy humour. I have no idea if this is a comedy or a serious drama.
So many coincidences just because of....plot...
I hesitate to use the word "woke" as that will peeve people off. But when a 40+ slim female knocks out two white young fit males double her weight and size it just screams "woke"
The scenes never feel natural. Pubs/clubs feel stage managed and fake, peoples reactions to situations highly improbable.
In summery there is no depth, character development or flow to this series. Very disappointed.
The Silencing (2020)
Spoiler warning -
Suspend reality and becomes an okay movie. There are so many inconsistencies, plot holes and forced cliches to make the plot work that I am surprised movie was made.
The main character is the only saving grace, strong performance supporting a weak script.
I just don't understand how there are no forensics, scene control, investigation... for a murder scene let alone a serial killer.
Those famous movie moments where injuries magically heal.
Oh look we all solved the crime at same time and appear at same place just in time moment.
Let's not call for help when crime in progress.
The Hunt (2020)
It's satire and fun
I went into the movie thinking it was going to be serious thriller. Quickly realised it was satire and actually pretty good fun.
For the low reviews I think viewers tried to take this movie too seriously. It's supposed to have exaggerated themes and ideas, making fun of the mad world we live in.
From my experience the far left have aggressive strong views and use violence to get their own way and this movie characterises this in a humorous way.
Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this movie and glad I watched it.
Downsizing (2017)
Movie of two halves
Some excellent concepts and potential in this movie. I was enjoying the build up and character development. In fact it was funny at first and then the left took over.
The way the movie started there are so many awesome spin off ideas that would be cool.
The second half was mental and completely out of sync with the start of the film. All became hippy, save the planet, humans are bad, blah blah.....
Celebrities and social elite live a bubble far removed from the rest of society.
What We Do in the Shadows (2014)
Absolutely amazeballs
This movie is epic! Witty, cringe, clever and brilliant entertainment.
Such a creative and imaginative film, how films should be.
One Hit Die (2013)
Hidden gem for all Adventure Gamers out there
In huge fan of the author Neven Lliev and this is a tv series similar to the style of his books.
If you like humour, cheese, nerd jokes and banter this is for you.
Yes it's low budget, but the characters make this a great series.
Tunes of Glory (1960)
Ahead of its time
I may be biased being Scottish and serving in the Army for 15 years.
However this movie tackles PTSD and the hidden battles people fight everyday.
Not only that the setting in Fort George is amazing and you can tell that the actors were ex military themselves.
Can't fault this film.
Black Summer (2019)
Missed the mark and lazy editing
Odd the things you notice when watching a TV series.
Whilst watching Black Summer I noticed that -
Grass is freshly mowed in all the gardens and paths. Thought this would be over grown?
During the car chase in episode two they went past the same buildings and roads over and over again. So obvious and lazy editing.
Why are the cars used old and beat up. Surely if you could choose any vehicle you wouldn't choose the worse possible cars?
Every ethnic background is included within the first few minutes. I hate this obvious attempt at political correctness. Feels unnatural and forced.
If there is a form of structure and military presence, why is their equipment so basic? Why are they so disorganised and have no body armour, helmets, comms? Fighter jets are flying over head so the implied point is there must be form of radio communication and availability of kit and equipment.
Food, water, medicine, shelter, safety are primary motivators. Yet seems the lowest priority of the survivors.
American is world famous for easy access of firearms, yet few people are armed.
There are so many cliches and scripted events that scream lazy writing and thought process.
What frustrates me is that low budget doesn't need to be so rubbish.
Look at some of the most famous movies of all time like 12 angry men. Very low budget but amazing.
28 Days Later, was amazing because you felt connection to the characters, the decisions made by the characters were realistic, the music was emotive....
Flash back to Black Summer, just ridiculous plots and shallow characters. I literally felt nothing for them.
Really disappointed in this as I was looking forward to watching the series.
Scream (2015)
Plot holes big enough to sink the titanic.
Cheesy acting yet entertaining. If you can suspend reality and enjoy it as a comic style teen movie it's okay.
I actually watched full season, so can't have been that bad.
Likes - it's entertainment that requires little concentration and bit fun.
Dislikes - poor acting, predictable cliff hangers and total disregard to reality.
Peppermint (2018)
Scripted wooden acting
Is this supposed to be a serious movie or tongue in cheek action movie like Die Hard?
Each scene felt scripted and forced, nothing flowed naturally.
Survive 5 years travelling the world on only $50,000 to hone high end military skills...
Creating false personas to enable international travel...
take out a drug cartel....
Where did she get the intel?
Why would the FBI be interested before the murders?
All the corruption happens to be white men.
A rubbish movie and do not recommend.
