Rilakkuma to Kaorusan (2019)
A heart warming tv show about life
We started watching this for a bit of a laugh and to wind down before bed. Like many others we assumed it would be juvenile but were pleasantly surprised to discover many of the themes resonated with us as newly 30-somethings struggling with issues such as maintaining friendships, finances and careers. I found myself genuinely caring for the protagonist and her little family of bears. A very refreshing look at adulthood and the beauty of the mundane.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)
A fun action packed film with great visuals
I genuinely don't understand why the IMDB rating for this film is so slow. I never post reviews but I felt compelled too because this film deserves to be in the high 7s at a minimum. Dane DeHaan did a great job as Valerian. Admittedly I rolled my eyes when I saw Cara Delevingne had been cast as Laureline and that Rhiannon starred in the film but they both sold their characters and I can't find any reason to criticise their performances. The chemistry between the two leads could be stronger but it was still believable. The story itself takes you on a jaw droppingly gorgeous adventure through space. Anyone who enjoys sci-fi films owes it to themselves to give Valerian a chance regardless of the IMDB rating. I enjoyed this story immensely and bought the DVD after seeing it at the cinema so I would re-live the adventure at home :)
