The Expanse: The Weeping Somnambulist (2017)
Season 2, Episode 9
8/10
Key episode
7 October 2022
The Weeping Somnambulist is a key episode for the vibe of The Expanse thus far.

No Hollywood endings here. Excellent acting and thoughtful plot points carry this through sections of the episode without action sequences. Impressive character development for even minor players.

The crew discover that good intentions aren't enough and not even interpreted as such.

For those who found this episode dull, go watch a Star Wars move. Folks, character development and screenplay detail is needed for an enduring series like this. I'm sure the rewards will come for viewers who have invested intently in the rich texture of this yarn.

The Dry (2020)
8/10
Engaging Australian drama

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I haven't read the book, so I can't compare film with book. Beautiful cinematography of drought-stricken rural landscape. Well acted and well directed. As a whodunnit, it does keep you guessing until the truth is revealed.

Boring marathon viewing

A struggle to sit through this tedious behemoth of a movie. Nothing really happens and you feel ripped off at the end. Visually engaging space shots. That's it.
