Bunkheads (2018)
Hit and Miss
This comedic spin on surviving the zombie apocalypse has a few likable characters and some funny moments, but one of the four main characters, Kip, is irritating and really doesn't have any redeeming qualities. It's hard to get hooked because the overall plot really doesn't seem to matter much. If you like tongue-in-cheek humor then you should give it a try; but, there are just too many tv show options to commit to this one.
Sunshine (2007)
A Bright Spot for Dark Thrillers
So maybe the plot line is a little too easy to follow for a film labeled as a "high suspense thriller"; still, other aspects of this film make it a great watch. Unlike a lot of lesser known sci-fi flicks the acting is superb - with lot of now-great actors at earlier points in their careers. The visuals are creative and well done and the movie has enough depth that goes beyond the plot to be enjoyable; especially for anyone who likes a thought invoking experience. Really worthwhile if you like the genre.
Nightbreed (1990)
More Creative than Scary
Personally, I loved this movie, but certainly is for a niche audience. The plethora of fun and unique monsters was worth it alone. It isn't really a scary in the context of modern horror; still, it is a delight for those who enjoy diving into an adventure film filled with the creations of Clive Barkers's imagination. There is some gore, but not an upsetting amount and Danny Elfman's musical elements really bring home a thrilling experience.
Mother! (2017)
Hipster Heaven
This film has great actors, excellent filmography and tries so hard for depth that general audiences will hate it. It's heavy use of allegory and over the top metaphor make it barely watchable for 90 percent of audiences. It's unnecessarily grotesque and goes from uncomfortable to dark without the necessary genius that has allowed films of a similar style to succeed. If you're one of those people that really likes to watch films so you can pretentiously talk down at others who "just don't get it" then you'll love this movie. Otherwise, don't waste your time.
