American Horror Story: Final Girl (2019)
Season 9, Episode 9

The Cherry on Top
23 November 2021
This is the first time AHS has satisfied me with its ending. I don't mind the bitter-sweet conclusions of prior seasons but they always felt clunky, or forced, or tacked on at the end, regardless of how enjoyable the rest of the season had been. But this was perfect. It gave me everything I wanted, and that final scene was beautiful. Such deeply flawed and morbid characters this time round, but the show did a great job at completing their arcs and making them sympathetic nonetheless.

Was smiling ear to ear by the time the credits rolled.

Not as good as the original, but definitely worth a watch
15 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews here and, while it has its flaws, this movie certainly doesn't deserve as little as 1 star. Firstly, just as with the original, the music is stellar. It's a cleanly and interestingly shot film with a lot of movement and atmosphere. The characters are endearing, if a little under-explored.

That's the main shortcoming in my opinion. This movie could've afforded another 30 minutes or more to tie up all its loose ends and incomplete character arcs. There's this unshakeable feeling that something has been cut out -- maybe some more flashbacks, or, better yet, a pay off for said flashbacks -- and that you're missing a few pieces of the puzzle. The last quarter feels like a speed-run attempt to produce a compelling, return-to-roots horror ending, but only winds up rushing clumsily to the credits.

Honestly, I'd found myself invested in our lead until he disappeared from the movie abruptly, and by the time I'd re-adjusted to investing in his partner the movie had essentially ended. She seemed like an interesting character to follow so the hasty ending didn't do her justice.

However, I did enjoy the commentary, and the film does feel like a natural extension of / revival of the original. The comments complaining that it's 'political' as opposed to horrific aren't entirely wrong, but the concepts are translated potently and have the exact outcome that any good horror movie should: discomfort, paranoia, and distress. Not to mention how good the school bathroom kills were!

Was I scared? Maybe not. But was I disturbed, and set on edge by this story? Absolutely. It's got me thinking, and the soundtrack on repeat is going to keep me thinking!

It's an imperfect movie with some meat on its bones -- enough to warrant a watch, and some time spent considering the message afterwards.

Accusatory, maybe a even little haunting. Raw, performative and serrated.

Better than anticipated

Some reviews are so harsh when really, this show exceeded my expectations. Sometimes it gets a bit big for its boots with the political/philosophical commentary but all in all most of the story lines and characters are pretty engaging.

It gets a pass because of its subversion

This movie is largely average with some intriguing imagery and concepts thrown in. Unfortunately these promising aspects of the film are underutilized in my opinion, leading to its wacky misdirects taking center stage. Decent as a casual horror flick

The creep factor is mostly there
7 July 2019
While unsettling and certainly not lacking both effective and creative scares, Shutter struggles to maintain its impact. Every eerie scene starts off promisingly but generally falters due to cheesy editing that softens the scares. However, it's a solid ghost story with multiple clever twists to satisfy viewers.

Surprising
27 April 2019
Given that half the reviews are debating the cheerleader's body rather than the movie, I wasn't sure what to expect. It certainly packed an emotional punch and proved more than worth the try. Phenomenal zombie flick.

It was what I wanted it to be and more. Not perfect, but far exceeding 'good' or 'worthwhile'. Loved it

Uh...
7 September 2018
Both the first movie and its sequel left me lost for words- and whether or not that's a good sign, I'm not sure. It's certainly an uncomfortable film. Differing quite heavily from from its predecessor, Creep 2 appears to be as confused by itself as I am. I found it the more enjoyable flick, but wish it had the guts to go further.

Incredible!!

Madly entertaining and totally tongue-in-cheek, this film had my full engagement. I loved the characters and quirky plot, and all I'd like to add is that I really, really HOPE it gets a sequel someday.

Disappointing

The premise is promising for a slasher, but this film is a bore.

Okay
4 August 2018
Emelie's impact falls short of what was intended for it. While disturbing, it never goes full force and almost borders on tame sometimes. The motivation seemed unnecessary to me and the film lost intensity the longer it went on. Also- I'm being picky at this point!- the transitions really bugged me. But, again, it was okay.

Creepy, but ultimately pointless
3 August 2018
Not all movies require a sense of purpose, but I think Creep could've benefited from one. Though disturbing its intrigue never pays off.

Unwavering and Haunting

This film effected me beyond the usual jumps and giggles of horror flicks. I'm genuinely amazed by the emotion and atmosphere it presents. Give it a shot, it's certainly worth the watch!

Fine
27 July 2018
I enjoyed the novelty of the original Sleepaway Camp, but the even the upped-campiness of this sequel can't make up for the persistent mediocrity. The idea was fun, but it came off a little drier than intended.

Worthwhile
23 July 2018
Although dragging at points, this film didn't disappoint me. I found myself caring about the story and engaged with the chase scenes. I'd definitely recommend it to those looking for an enjoyable slasher.

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed most of this movie. It was silly and ticked most of the boxes of a good slasher. However, every reveal falls flat in my opinion, and the ending can only be described as painful.

Surprised By Such Low Reviews
13 July 2018
I enjoyed 'You're Next'. The twist (as mentioned in just about every review) was satisfying, regardless of unsubtle it was from the get-go. For the genre that it is -- 100% slasher -- the film worked well, with the second half definitely bringing more life(/death) to it.

Would recommend, if you're looking for a fun horror flick.

My Favourite Horror
6 July 2018
This was my first horror experience as a tween, and ever since it's remained a firm favourite of mine. Intelligent and expertly put together, Scream has created a legacy and truly deserves all and any praise it receives.

Terribly Fun
6 July 2018
Is it on the same level as the Scream movies? No, but it certainly belongs to the same family. An enjoyable flick with a fair share of well-executed whodunnits and scares.
