Run the Burbs (2022)
Another Great Canadian Sitcom!
From the look of the houses to the realistic feel of a Toronto family, this show is more relatable than the average sitcom. While each episode gets funnier, you'll care about the characters within the first 3 minutes. Another CBC hit and great work by Andrew Phung.
Marriage Story (2019)
Brilliant Performances!!!!
This movie takes the overdone idea of a divorce and makes it incredibly captivating. While everyone's performance is brilliant, Adam Driver is pure genius in every scene. When you watch this film, and you really need to, ask yourself this; if Nicole and Charlie had read their lists at the beginning of the film, would they still be together at the end? As a man who has been married for almost 20 years, this movie goes a long way to showing the importance of communication in making a marriage work. Great movie!
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
The Movie That Made Me Love Movies!
It always amazes me when someone tells me they didn't like this film or that they thought it was creepy. E.T. was the first movie I cried at in the theatre, was the first movie I remembered everything about, and the first movie that felt personal. As an 8-year old in 1982, I was suddenly becoming aware how much growing up without a father was making me different from my friends. I was alienated and alone at times, seeking my own identity that little boys often find in their dads. E.T. made me realize that I wasn't alone and that love, compassion, friendship, and family could still exist even if my father didn't want me. The movie is beautiful, inside and out. EVERYBODY delivers a meaningful performance with heart and dedication. If you haven't seen this film, watch it, and be prepared for an emotional roller coaster that ALL great films should have.
This Changes Everything (2018)
If You Love Movies, Watch This Documentary!
As is the case with most issues involving civil rights and equality, the moment something like this is watched, you suddenly realize that you weren't as educated as much as you thought. This doc made me emotional and opened my eyes to the importance of selecting the right things for my daughter to watch. It also made me so aware of the absence of women in the film industry. "Are there 2 women in this movie, do they talk to each other, and is their conversation about something other than a man?" If you love movies and are aware of how much they influence society, watch this film.
Reign of Fire (2002)
Post Apocalyptic World Using Dragons? YES PLEASE!
As long as you're not expecting the best movie ever made, you'll enjoy this film. It's well-acted, well written, visually depressing (as a post-apocalyptic story should be), and inspiring. If you're a pop culture geek, you'll love all the faces you'll recognize from other projects such as the Dark Knight Trilogy, 300, Gotham, and Game of Thrones. You'll even spot homage to Star Wars in an old-school play! This movie was fun and moving.
Man of Steel (2013)
Best Superman Movie to Date
For those who disliked this movie, what is it you want? Depth to a story, development for the background characters that define Superman, incredible cinematography, and an epic superhero battle unlike anything ever seen before? I've always found it interesting that 2 of the best Superman films, Superman Returns and this movie, are often torn apart by people that have no idea what they're talking about. Stop the hate! Make some popcorn and enjoy!
Aquaman (2018)
The Funnest Movie Of The Year!
Finally, DC doesn't make a movie that feels like a funeral! As much as I loved Wonder Woman, the Dark Knight Trilogy, and Man of Steel, it became crystal clear that DC was more interested in making darker films for adults, while alienating the kids that make up most of the target audience for a superhero film. There were actually children asleep at Justice League! Whereas my 11-year old was on the edge of his seat through Aquaman! It's fun, upbeat, emotional, visually stunning, and worth the price of, not just your ticket, but the whole family.
Free Spirit (1989)
Under-Rated Sitcom Lasted Only 1 Season
I had a crush on Winnie and this show was fun to watch. Maybe a bit before it's time.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
Solo is a movie made for ACTUAL Star Wars fans.
Since the creation of social media, something terrible has happened to the world of fandom. All those people who believe they're too smart to have fun or lack the ability to sit back and enjoy a movie without hating it, because it's simply not the movie THEY would make, are becoming the VOICE of all fans. Sorry guys, if you love to hate Star Wars projects, you are not a fan. AND if you hated this movie, you are NOT the voice of the REAL Star Wars fan! My friends and I loved this movie! Born in 1974, I grew up with Star Wars. We all did! This was so loyal to the original spirit of Han and all the other characters we had come to love over the years; not just in the films, but in literature and the amazing animated series' done by Dave Filoni. It created side characters with sub-stories that we became eager to learn more about! It was exciting! It was pure adventure! It was funny! It was everything Star Wars was all about before Rian Johnson made his depressing and aimless Last Jedi film (that I swear was made for the trolls who claim to be fans). I usually don't critique films, but I'm worried that the stupid people who encourage people to not see movies will ruin the chance we have to see another movie that continues where this story left off! This movie is not making money because people are being told to stay home. DON'T STAY HOME! Go out and see this movie! As my friend said when it was over, "you'll feel like a kid again." Solo: A Star Wars Story is truly a Star Wars story and I LOVED IT!
