The Good Fight: The Schtup List (2017)
A Great Episode
...on how politics infects and sometimes degrades/embarrasses/exposes/indicts/etc. 'humanity'. I can see why the one Trumper reviewer got so bent out of shape. In some way, very humanistic. In others, calculating in legalistic machinations - but not so much as every moment in The Good Wife series. Michelle & Robert King nail it in this new series. It's more truthful and reflective of each of us individually (embarrassingly so). Great use of visuals. Intense subtle observations (Think characters Lucca & Colin Morella at the bar - flirting at first. Horrid honesty/regret/awareness about being played a few moments later.) The Kings continue to show us all what great TV can be about. Thank you! What more can one say? Especially in this MAGA age, where no one says anything nice about anything or anyone, or any writing couple/pair?
The Good Wife: Foreign Affairs (2011)
End of episode - contrived beyond belief
I found the subplot about the oil lawsuit a welcome bit of lighthearted fun, particularly the characterizations of Hugo Chavez (Carlos Ferro) and his lead attorney (Fred Thompson).
However, the ending was such a contrived disappointment. So Andrew Wiley, former attorney on the Innocence Project, professional investigator, etc., is going to traipse into the somewhat dressy election return watch party and celebration, Columbo-like, in his hoodie, to do the old 'just one more thing, Mrs. Florrick' bit. After being told by Alicia earlier in the day to bug off, lest she file a harassment complaint, Investigator Wiley found it both wise and necessary to leave his kids/family after normal business hours, crash the celebration, just to tell Alicia that there is nothing to worry about. Oh, please!!!
The Good Wife: On Tap (2010)
Good overall - disappointing development of Alicia's character
A good episode overall. However, the writers' development of Alicia's character, when she learns of Will's followup voice mail, is condescending. In this scene Alicia is portrayed as an irrational, emotional woman, and not as focused and insightful as she usually is. Keep in mind all that the character has been through and has been challenged throughout the series, and how she almost always manages to maintain her composure and focus, nonetheless. She runs out of the review room, emotional almost to the point of tears. Alicia is very perceptive. I would have expected that she would have concluded, almost instantly, that the 2nd voicemail had been deleted, and by someone with something to gain. That would have led very quickly to Peter or Eli, who had access to her phone after she left the banquet. Further, the running out of the room all upset is so out of her normal character. Given the importance of her task, and that nothing could be done at the moment about the deleted email and/or Will, I would have expected her to resume the reviews, or for the show to cut to the next scene. Truly, a bit of gratuitous melodrama, that really plays on some very unfortunate stereotypes of women - the very antithesis of the show most of the time.
