Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Two (2024)
The biggest issues are the low quality animation and bad voice acting
This movie is enjoyable enough, especially if you're already a DC fan and are familiar with the characters. I do not think its as great as the previous DC films, as the other reviewers have mentioned. But beyond the clunky animation and mediocre voice acting and other minor issues, I enjoyed the movie.
To me the strongest part of this movie was the dialogue and characters. Spoilers, psycho pirate makes an appearance and his backstory, monologue, and interactions with others was interesting. I also liked the monitor's relationship with Kara, and "satellite," a sentient robot. Kara and Monitor have sort of a father-daughter, and how it all turned out at the end was a beautiful tragedy.
Overall, the reviews here feel too harsh, is it a masterpiece? No. Is it great? Maybe not. Is it enjoyable and entertaining if you've watched the previous parts and are an established DC fan? Yes, I think so.
Blue Eye Samurai (2023)
Flawed
If there is solace to be given to this show, its that despite its many flaws, its entertaining and has a great premise with the whole "female samurai who's also mixed with blue eyes" shtick. You'll be binging this one on Netflix for sure, but you'll also find yourself in discomfort, a small grimace, shifting in your seat at the sound of 14 year old fanfiction tier dialogue, recycled grunt/moan voicelines, surface level side character(s), occasional cheap CG video game animation, and worst of all - Characters who are bad people, with motivations you cannot root for. Our protagonist is a cold blooded murderer who kills CHILDREN and everyone who steps in her path. She is somewhat of a Mary sue, as she recovers easily from every grave injury and destroys armies with ease. All her companions and friends, save her mentor/adopted father, are terrible murderers with selfish motivations. There is no balance of good people where one can say "I want this person to reach their goal." Entertaining to watch, but overdone and tiresome. This is all great for a story that is a tragedy but the series did not, at end, portray our protagonist or others as a tragic character, but as a hero who we should root and hope that she achieves her goal of revenge. Maybe the modern zeitgeist of a broken lonely audience can relate and root for her but not me. I just see the protagonist her as a general nuisance who should learn to be a better person and the story gives no sight of that. Maybe she doesn't need to give up her core motivation, but I cannot find anything compensating about her character besides "Hey, she's a cool samurai." If you hate stories about tragic bad people then you'll find the show entertaining to watch but it'll leave you feeling a bit angry inside.
