American Bistro (2019)
Seems unfinished
Movie seems unfinished. Or there's a lot of scenes missing that were supposed to provide context. Idk. I won't comment on acting. I think a lot of things like could've been ignored if it had a decent plot. Base plot is good but I think they had too many ideas they tried to push in not enough time. Ended up with nothing resolved at the end
Mortal Engines (2018)
Pretty decent
Nothing extraordinary. But overall an enjoyable movie comparable with other 7/10 movies. It seems like people's rating are influenced by advertising more than anything else. You have people rating this 4/10 and avengers 9/10. Give me a break.
Riding Giants (2004)
This made me start surfing
Just awesome. The whole movie. I was constantly being blown away by the history, culture, and the balls on these surfers. I've been skateboarding my whole life although living in Michigan I haven't had any exposure to surfing. I feel like I've discovered a whole new world after watching this. This is where it all stems from. Stacy Peralta does a very good job in leading the narrative. Starting with the earliest traces of surfing and moving through history with the first riders to make it into a lifestyle like Greg Noll. Then today with pioneers like Laird Hamilton. It also shows the level at which these surfers perform. I've always seen pictures of people surfing big waves, but it never clicked how dangerous these waves actually are. I gained a lot of respect for these individuals and surfing.
Since watching this I've already taken two trips to go learn to surf. I have more planned for the future. I guess that means the movie did a good job :)
Moonlight (2016)
very good cinematography
First time I watched this movie I didn't know what to expect. I really liked the cinematography and music from the start. Actors were also good. This movie did a great job in all those aspects. I didn't know anything about the plot prior and was pretty surprised about him being gay. I just wasn't expecting the movie to go there. Anyways it came as a surprise and I think I didn't enjoy the movie as much because it came about kind of randomly.
I ended up watching the movie again later on and this time I really enjoyed it. I noticed all the production a lot more and really loved it. I could also understand his story and struggle a lot more knowing that he was fighting with this from the beginning of the movie. Anyways, the whole production was just beautiful. I understand why this movie did so well. It has nothing to do with them doing something edgy by casting a black gay dude. The whole production was amazing and that's why this movie deserves the awards it got.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
everything was expected. no bueno
Everything about the movie was just meh. They know if they put everybody's favorite characters into one movie people will go see it. The problem is that there's no time to focus on any one. Theres no character development. With just a simple story keeping the characters going. and then just non stop fast paced action. for 3 hours straight. and then little funny one liners from characters in between action. These cross over movies are only made to sell out in box office. They do this by looking at statistics. It seems that's the only thing they consider when making these movies.
There were stupid character decisions and plot holes. I get that Thanos has his inifinty stones and he's very powerful. but how come all our heroes are completely useless with their stones? Dr. Strange can go in the future, see scenarios play out and rewind time. This is by far the most useful stone and for some reason he doesn't do anything. At one point they are pulling off Thanos's glove which will pretty much save everyone, and then it gets ruined because starlord hits him and wakes him up. Ok so hes stupid. he hit him. why couldnt dr strange just rewind that part and do it again. Then you have the mind stone and the character vision. Apparently it lets you control peoples minds. Should be able to work on thanos and change his mind to not want to destroy half of all life. Heres a better idea. lets stab vision repeatedly throughout the movie and then give the stone to thanos.
At the end of the movie I didn't even know how to feel. Everybody in the theater was amazed by the ending. Omg the good guys were supposed to win. but they didn't for once. What a masterpiece. like what? Since when does a simple plot twist excuse a bad movie. I know I can't be the only one who feels this way. So anyways we know there will be a sequel. And of course marvel isn't going to kill off half their characters. That would be a lot of lost money. The soul stone can apparently trap peoples souls in another world. My bet would be that Thanos didn't actually kill everybody but rather just used the stone to transport them somewhere else. Looks like we have to wait another year to learn what we already know. The good guys will win!
I am not disappointed about this movie. Everything was kind of expected. What I am dissapointed about is how this is being rated at 9/10. This movie does not even come close. A fair imdb rating would be 6/10. sparkly vfx do not count for +3.
Ready Player One (2018)
future classic
All I saw from this movie prior was a quick trailer. I didn't read the book. so I had nothing else to compare the movie to. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. It's just a enjoyable movie. I can put it as a future classic similar to e.t. or other spielberg movies. I'm kind of bummed out it didn't get the exposure it deserves. I didn't hear about it till a month after release and all my friends heard about it from me. If you are thinking about seeing it I would highly recommend it. Especially if you didn't read the book like me. It's sad to see a movie this good go under the radar
