Shôgun (2024)
When the language doesn't let you be rated 10 stars
This series is like that studious student who had everything he needed to get a brilliant 10 stars but makes a mistake on the easiest question.
Everything in this series is good: photography, direction, art, scenery, clothes, acting, etc. Everything. The producers only failed in one thing: ENGLISH IS NOT PORTUGUESE!
I speak Portuguese, but I was watching it in the original languages, Japanese + English, when suddenly, someone said "hey, do you speak Portuguese? Yes, I do" and both characters continued in... ENGLISH! WTF?!
That was one of the weirdest things I've ever seen! In my entire life!!!
I've read somewhere that the producers preferred to leave the lines in English for convenience, and due to the difficulty of teaching the language or finding Portuguese speakers. Ok. So why 'pretend' they are speaking Portuguese? WHY!?
All they had to do was come up with an excuse to change the language to English as Blackthorne is from... England! That would justify. And that would be fair.
There was no need to make the public look like idiots.
A simple sentence from Blackthorne would solve everything:
'LOOK, MY PORTUGUESE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH, CAN WE SPEAK IN ENGLISH?'
Just that way!
And the series would have a maximum rating: 10!
Well, as I speak Portuguese, from the 3rd chapter onwards I simply stopped listening to the original English sound and started watching it dubbed in Portuguese. It was horrible, but at least I didn't feel cheated.
The Zone of Interest (2023)
The boy in the striped pajamas without the boy
A technically very good film in a technically very weak script. That's it.
As more words are demanded here it goes:
The director created a dark and frightening atmosphere but he kept the script on the obvious as it is a true based story. But he could have gonne beyond.
Höß lived well 'till near the end of the war and then disguised as gardener or something. He was caught in 1946 and hanged in 1947. His wife became poor and worked in a sugar plant. She lived more than 80 years.
None of this is showed. Not even mentioned.
Unfortunately a very poor plot filmed very well with good actors. Such a pity.
Mysterious Skin (2004)
why is it for 18+?
I see no reason to exclude people under 18 of watching this movie. There isn't a single scene of extreme violence or nudity that justify that.
Besides that, it is a slow and raw movie. I known it's based on the book but, come on, it could have had more interesting stuff than just an hunting for dirty childhood memories.
Despite of being boring and slow sometimes I guess it deserves more than 4 stars cause it touches ours souls and make us feel pity for the boys. It is a sad story of how the reality in this planet is. Sad but true.
Interesting movie but I'd recommend for everyone older than 15.
No Hard Feelings (2023)
why they ruined a potential good movie?
Such a good plot deserved a better conclusion.
The way things are showed in this movie are interesting but it deserved more cause it is so boring on the go.
Well, a girl who needs money and "sell" herself to a virgin male. Sounds like a prostitute but she claims she isn't.
This story could be better if the characters convince us they exist but their actions make us believe it is just another kind of stupid movie.
Some scenes are great. Some aren't. I didn't understand where the movie wanted to be...
its not a bad movie but I'd never pay to whatch it. I'd never recomend to my friends as well.
Body of Evidence (1992)
Not bad but more basic than Basic Instinct
I really don't know why people rate this movie so down.
Despite the scene at the end where Frank looks at the dead Rebeca with an idiotic face and puts himself at risk at gunpoint, the rest of the film is fairly good.
Maybe the fact of Basic Instinct has been made one year before this movie made people think it is another stupid copy, but, come on, it has its own spark.
The sensual scenes are ok and well executed. The photography is not bad.
The courtroom scenes are good and the characters have a certain appeal. The situations exposed in the film are different and the revelations about the characters are interesting and surprising.
The performances are ok. Nothing special. Not bad, except for Madonna. Her performance is horrible and dull. Such an interesting character is played so poorly.
But that doesn't make the film horrible. No. It's still a good film. It's not excellent I know and It's far from a 10 rate, but it's not bad either. It's a good film to recommend to friends. Something interesting that should be remembered and not repudiated.
She's Lost Control (2014)
It's not for me (and not for most of people I guess)
When I its description on Amazon Prime I was excited. A woman sex therapist losing control. Sex. Drama. Rated for 18+. That's an amazing thing. But I'm totally disappointed.
I just didn't rate it with 1 due to the photography and (a little bit) 'cause feel sorry.
It's a regular story. Its sad. I feel pity 'cause the woman life is ruined. But it's a terrible movie. It has no point to be made. There's nothing interesting in the movie. Nothing at all.
The sex scenes are dumb, slow, cold. The drama parts are so boring. The film ends on the same way it begins: lost!
Ok the director wanted us to feel as depressed as the characters but at least it could have more sensual stories to warm it up.
De ofrivilliga (2008)
It misses something
Ok, good stories. I makes you reflect about human behavior an blablabla. But... I'm feeling it misses something.
I liked triangle of sadness so I watched this movie having that in mind but I didn't like it much.
If the director whanted to show how stupid humanity is so he could've made a documentary.
Instead he came up with this movie that, despite of having some interesting points, come to nowhere in narrative.
I'm just feeling I've wasted my time to see what I always see around me and I already ever know.
Maybe this is a good movie for those who live in a bubble or a perfect world then they can taste a little bit of reality, but it's not for me. All scenes showed in this movie is like a Tuesday afternoon for me.
Olhar Indiscreto (2023)
If you talk Portuguese don't even waste your time
I could've rated ZERO but it worth 1 star due to the plot.
It's hard to say what's worse: the performances, the unbelievable situations (for a movie), the lack of direction, the bad cuts between scenes or the lack of naturalness of the actors.
It looks like a soup opera.
Something that bothered me a lot is the lie in the title. Supposedly it should be a voyeur person but what is least seen in the series is voyeurism! Just a single chapter and nothing more.
Despite the lie in the title, I must confess, the story is good and engaging. Point to the screenwriter.
It's a shame that his work has been given into the hands of such bad people, such bad actors. Everything is so bad that it looks like the work of elementary school children making their first film in a cinema class.
If you don't speak Portuguese it might improve your experience a bit. Maybe voice actors in your language can improve the tone of conversations and convince you that they really are characters and not people repeating memorized text.
The Sessions (2012)
I'd like to rate it better but...
It is a good movie indeed. It is a great story. Hunt and Hawkes did an amazing job. But it's too short!
Ok, it could not be a problem when you tell the full story properly on the screen, however, I think many love scenes could last longer to imerge us in a more intimate environment.
I'm not saying it is bad. It's the opposite. I'm saying it's so good that made me ask for more. And the movie ends quicker than I expected.
Also I think it could have deeply explored Mark marriage emphasizing how happy he was after the treatment.
I don't know whether the director wanted us to feel shocked or not ending it suddenly but still a great movie. Not 9 or 10 as I wish it could but still very very good!!!
Cam (2018)
Did they go out of money to make a better ending?
Good movie. Amazing potential. But disappointing ending.
I like the movie despite of the lack of erotic scenes. They could have showed more sensuality. The movie could make the same atmosphere of Basic Instinct. But it's ok. I was inclined to give it an 8 just because of the thrill but in the end it just ruined everything.
The movie is short. So I guess the producers went out of money to do a better job in the end.
However I recommend it because it shows a world that's not understood by everyone.
Good movie. Good scenes. Nothing much. But it misses a good opportunity to be amazing. It almost got there.
Air (2023)
Almost got an 9 or even 10
I really appreciate this movie and my expectations were high.
I was looking forward to it but the ending felt a bit vague...
The sound track is awesome.
The scenography immerses us on the 80s.
The acting performances are ver good and C. Rock is great.
I liked the few jokes in the right amount.
No over the top drama.
The movie holds attention, but...
They created an expectation not showing Jordan's face at any time. I was hoping that in the end he could appear somwhow.
Those scenes showing real events are good but it could be better if they recreate with actors, giving it an air of drama.
I kind of thought it was weird ending abruptly. But it's still a wonderful movie. I'm just justifying why I didn't rate it higher.
Samaritan (2022)
Right movie in the wrong era
Very good but not spectacular.
I gave that rate to reward the effort to make a good but although it is not so good.
I feel like it would be greater if it was made 3 decades ago 'cause it is made for the children and nowadays children are different.
I remember how I loved Last Action Hero movie when I was a kid. Samaritan could have been a wonderful similar movie for Stallone in the 90s.
That's a pity it was not made before. The action scenes are not so great not because they made it wrong but due to the improvement of recent movies.
The plot twist is good but I feel that people nowadays are not so impacted as they were before the year 2000.
That make me feel that this movie is late. Unfortunately. It looks like an oldie but it doesn't mean it is bad.
Triangle of Sadness (2022)
If you think it's a satire you don't know the planet you live in
First at all: I've worked in a vessel and all stuff showed in the movie is accurate, even (sometimes) the drunk captain. Crew and staff are humans and as every human they have their failures. I believe most of the high level staff are responsible but is not unusual seeing irresponsible people around.
About the movie, I guess it is the raw bare side of the human society.
Yes. People just care about money.
People sell weapons and are killed by what they sell.
People are jealous but they dislike when others show their jealous.
People are stupid.
People behave as animals.
People have their fears.
People are exactly as showed in the movie.
I also saw capitalism vs socialism debate that has no point in the end as everybody has a need and neither capitalism and socialism work when you're in an isolated island alone.
The most important is not sharing what you have but sharing what you know.
Devotion (2022)
Historic accurated and not blockbuster
Some people expect blockbusters as Top Gun everytime. This is not the case.
The movie is good. The actors do ok. Sound is fine (although I fell lack or music) and the photography is awesome.
But the movie is not a blockbuster. And it is good! The story is real. It is based on a real life so it is unfair expecting a faster movie. It is slow as it must be.
If you prefer a real emotional story instead of fancy weird made up movies the go ahead. This movie is made for you.
Btw: it may have not much action scenes but when they are showed they're very good.
I also liked the technical way they show the aviation.
È stata la mano di Dio (2021)
That's pure life!
If you don't like this movie your life might be boring.
It brings us a mix of feelings that life always does.
It's funny. It has drama. It has a wonderful photography.
Don't expect to watch a regular movie 'cause it's not.
Ohh, of course, if you like the real football you'll like it even more!
Iron Eagle (1986)
one of the worsts films I ever watched
Awful plot
awful dialogs
awful scenes
it didn't convince me in nothing!
There's only one thing they could've done to make it better: SAY IT WAS JUST A CRAZY DREAM.
Perfect Stranger (2007)
quite interesting
Rowena's friend was murdered but not before reveal that she was dating a big marketing agency boss (bruce willis)
he was married and her wife had access do belladona, a substance found in Rowena's friend body.
Rowena spend the whole movie creating a trap to send the boss to the jail and meanwhile she finds out that his best friend was spying and stalking her, letting us think that he was the murder.
At the end the boss is jailed but his friend finds out that everything was actually a fake created by Rowena to blame someone else but herself, the real murder.
Her friend knew her secret: she and her mother had killed a man (assumed Rowena father) an buried him in the garden.
Caveat (2020)
covid of budget ended it?
It was being a good movie 'till its abrupt end.
I guess the studio cut the production's money while they were filming so they couldn't finish the story.
OR
maybe covid made them stop filming.
Anyway: a crap (not)ending for a nice movie.
The Voyeurs (2021)
very good story
I just don't give it a 10 'cause they had no reason to kill her boyfriend. It seemed unnatural.
Despite of that I think it was convincing and it has a good story with nice plot twists.
L'incredibile storia dell'isola delle rose (2020)
One of the best movies
Well, for me a good movie must have a good story and this is it. Good soundtrack also.
First Man (2018)
Useless movie
If you want spend 2h of your life watch this movie.
