The Shift (2020)
Ignore the IMDB general note, see it for yourself!
It's unfortunate this movie has so little visibility. I found it as a suggestion on HBO Max. I realized it will be good after watching only the first 3 minutes. The pace is a little slow, but the movie is not necessarily trying to focus on action only, but also on displaying the characters' psychology in tense situations. The actors were phenomenal in their roles, not going overboard and displaying genuine emotions on screen. The movie ending may have been predictable to some, not to me. If you liked movies like July 22, Patriots Day or Stronger, there's a high chance you will enjoy this movie as well.
La mujer del animal (2016)
I was not expecting this
I've seen this movie having good expectations, seeing the small synopsys. But boy, was I left speechless! Never have I seen such visceral representation of life in a movie before. This movie goes intimate to reveal the small grinding gears of life in the outskirts of Medellin. We're revealed the culture of terror and forced subordination instilled by one of the main characters, the Animal, king, rapist, pedophile of the village. The story is revealed through the eyes of one wife of the Animal, aptly named in the title, an innocent girl forcefully turned in a woman, then a mother. The wife is not singular, since at least one more woman takes this role halfway through the movie. Following this movie to the end reveals the catharsis, seeing the villain die.
I find this movie to be a hidden gem, a rough gem alike to City of God.
