American Dresser (2018)
Terrible.
I was looking forward to this film, and I was very disappointed. Not one interaction between the characters was realistic. Every woman was infatuated with any one of them. I don't know any guy who scores every time. His daughter was angry as he left, but thrilled when he returns with no explanation. Cops are super villains to the point of being absurd. Main character lost his wife weeks again and has the hots for some woman he meets on the road and accepts a date with her. Group of super hot chicks on bikes come upon the scene. Yeah, that happens everyday. Silly bar fight scene. Main character meets a son he never met and right after they are both in tears. Then they both cry and Tom (the lead character) says, "I need a hug!" Really? I almost laughed. The acting was actually good, but the script they had to work with was ridiculous.
Neither Wolf Nor Dog (2016)
Guilt road trip
Another guilt trip about Native Americans. What you might not notice is their Hypocrisy. They talk about how only the Native Americans know how to live on the land, but they own automobiles, houses and aluminum boats instead of walking, living in teepees and having birch bark canoes. When the white guy gets upset, they tell him, "What's done is done!" Then they spend the entire movie bitching about what happened 150 years ago. They talk about what the white man took from them, but they don't talk about what the white man gave them. Like Dentistry, Modern medical care (You see the old man taking pills in the beginning of the film. Did he get those from his Medicine Man?) They also fail to mention all the welfare they receive, and they bypass the idea that they could work and make more of a life for themselves, but that would take character. How come Native Americans didn't look at the white man and say, "Wow, you have science and technology. Teach us what you have learned and we will prosper as you have. Everything is always the fault of somebody else. But, the apparent goal of the Native American isn't to grow and prosper through school and hard work; it's to live off as much guilt as they can muster to keep the welfare checks coming.
The Holiday (2006)
Bad Chick Flick
Let me preface this by saying that I love a good chick flick. I thought The Piano was excellent. I hated this one! About three minutes into this one, I was asking myself, "What have I done?" About fifteen minutes into the film, I did something I never do. I hit the fast forward button. A few minutes later, I was asleep. When I woke up, I resumed hitting the fast forward button. I never laughed. I never even smiled. I just cringed!
I loved Kate Winslet in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but she and especially Cameron Diaz over acted this to death. On top of that, both characters were not only boring but annoying! Co-dependent, and a bit nuts, I couldn't care less about these two. Jude Law was actually quite good, but I've never cared much for Jack Black.
Nancy Meyers wrote and directed this mess. She shows promise as a director, but please lady, never set finger to keyboard again! The premise was interesting; that's why I rented it. However, the follow through showed just how corny and boring a writer can be.
