Truth or dare?
3 March 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is supposed to be a documentary that depicts Madonna on the road. Just the way she is. But is this a real documentary? Madonna is bold, wick, weird, proud, provocative and she likes to be like that. Very likely, she wants to be like that, hiding her real personality behind all those provocations. So it doesn't seem to be so sincere as documentary, but it's OK as document. There are some celebrities, there'sher music and some interesting moments like her visit to her mother grave, her response to Vatican boycott. It's a very different Madonnafrom that showed in the following documentary, that comes 14 year slater. The difference can be seen also at the premiere: in '91 she presented "Truth or Dare" at Festival de Cannes making all the press talking about her famous appearance, while at the recent documentary premiere we have seen a sober and shy Madonna. While her new documentary "I'm going to tell you a secret" (2005) it's a great documentary that everyone must see, this is only for Madonna's fans.

so 80's, so funny!
2 March 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Madonna gets into action, again and she fails again! Who's That Girl was released just one year after the huge flop of Shangai Surprise and two after the successful cult movie Desperately seeking Susan. She chose to act in it to forget the flop of the previous movie, not suspecting that this latter could be a flop, too. The movie received a bad acceptance by American critic and audience, while in Europe it was a success. Madonna states that "Some people don't want that she's successful both as a pop star and a movie-star". The soundtrack album, in which she sings four tracks sells well and the title-track single was agreat hit all over the world, as like as the World Tour. The truth isthat Madonna failed as an actress 'cause the script was quite weak. Butit's not so bad, especially for those who like the 80's: it's such a ramshackle, trash, colorful and joyful action movie ! At the end, it's very funny to watch it.

Two music icons for a big big flop
2 March 2006
One of the biggest history flops. Why? It's not easy to answer. Madonna has just become the queen of pop thanks to her top-selling album "Like A Virgin" and she has already been considered a hot actress thanks to the huge success of "Desperately Seeking Susan". So everyone was waiting for her next step. The following album left everyone breathless: "True Blue" became her greatest success ever selling over 23 millions copies, but her next movie was going' to be one of the biggest flop of movie industry. Her partner was Sean Penn, then her real life partner ( they got married the previous year), the director was the legendary member of The Beatles George Harrison, but the movie was a disaster since the beginning: she described it as a surviving test, 'cause weather conditions were terrible and paparazzi were always following them ( Madonna and Sean Penn) wherever they were going. She states: " We were very disappointed. We want to make a love movie, they cut all dramatic scenes and make it an action movie. They have cut all my best scenes, my character seems to be without personality now". Sean Penn said to his friend Chrissie Hunde: "Please don't watch it, as you're my friend and I don't want you to watch it". For all those thing, I recommend it!

Boring and awful
1 March 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The movie portrays the life of the Earl of Rochester, who will deceive the expectancies of Charles II Stuart. The movie is opened and closed by a Jhnny Depp monologue that bring us into a dark and licentious London of the XVII century. He lives among debauchery, prostitutes and he's constantly drunk even If at home, in a beautiful castle he has a lovely wife ( a too skinny but talented Rosamunde Pike ) who witnesses him such a deep love. His life goes on by scandals until he meets an actress ( Samantha Morton, who give probably the most performance of this movie) with whom he falls in love. The second part focuses on his illness and the decadence of his body without omissions of nasty and details. Too long, boring and scandalous as needed. We see a Johnny Depp glad to be nasty and outrageous, but I don't think it was a good step in his career, I believe he plays this role only to play another evil character. Sincerely, there wasn't the need to make a movie on the subject, or perhaps the script writer could have focused on other parts instead of the ones showed.

Madonna is good, but the movie is bad..
1 March 2006
Boring, dark, nasty, and too long but in all this an incredibly good Madonna. The critics asked themselves how she could be so good and were truly worried about it, but fortunately the movie completely failed at the box office. I love Madonna but I admit that I wasn't able to watch this movie.. Iìve tried it twice, but both times after a mid-hour I've stopped it.. It's just too dark, disgusting and cruel and that poor Madonna, bit and humiliated all the time! The example that a good-acting can't make a good movie if the script is weak. Madonna, another time chooses a wrong script, but at least nobody has said that in this movie she can't act!

What's the point?
1 March 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The title describes us perfectly the setting. As far as the plot is concerned, there's to say that Allen portrays a small community scared by a terrible murder, and the personal growth and change of two characters played by Malkovich and Farrow: they understand how deep is their love while the community has to deal with the killer. Allen plays an unbearable, shy character that upsets the watchers. Surely the story of these two lovers is fascinating, but it isn't enough to make of this movie a good one. Even the excellent appearances of a lot of stars including the Academy Awards fresh winner Jodie Foster ( who say only two words ), Kate Bathes and Madonna seem to be meaningless.

Incomplete, but not that bad
1 March 2006
Warning: Spoilers
A pleasant comedy in the first part and a sad drama in the last one, it's an enjoyable movie with two good main characters ( Madonna and Everett ) but the problem is that it doesn't achieve the problem: what to do with the fathers of the child? Even the director (the great John Schlesinger who certainly isn't at the levels of the 70's) isn't able to give an answer and this is really the point. Why making a movie if you can't achieve it? I find it incomplete and well, a bit surreal… Luckily there are nice actors ( the boy is the best ) and a wonderful soundtrack. Two of the songs ( time stood still and a cover of McLean's American pie) are sang by Madonna with Rupert Everett and this is no doubt what Madonna can do the best: choosing the songs to sing. What a pity she can't choose as well her roles! Even a genius like Schlesinger can't help her

Evita (1996)

Very good biographical musical with a great Madonna
1 March 2006
Madonna has found her role. She's absolutely perfect in the part of Evita. Her voice never been so clear, strong and beautiful. She has changed eyes' colour and teeth for the performance and she has entered the Guinnes World Book of record to be the actress who had wore the largest number of clothes in a movie. The movie is perhaps too long but it's very well done. Madonna won the Golden Globe as Best Actress, but the Academy didn't even give her a nomination, and that's really a scandal. How is it possible an actress who won the Golden Globe isn't nominated to the Oscars? The unique reason was that her name was Madonna. By the way this musical witnesses Madonna's talent as an actress but it shows also that the quality of the movie depends mostly on the script: with a great script ( in this case Andrew Lloyd Webber musical ) you can do a good movie, and what is more, it's a director's job to show the best of his actors, remember this!

Really nice movie- DON'T BELIEVE THE CRITICS!
1 March 2006
This remake certainly can't bear the comparison with the original one, but if considered alone, without thinking' at the original, it's quite a lovely movie. Sincerely I can't understand why the critics blame it so much, but certainly this is not the worst movie of the year at all. There are at least 20 worst movies released between 2002 and 2003. The plot is very simple and the movie is actually short so it prevents the audience from being annoyed. The soundtrack is really beautiful and the landscapes are simply spectacular. We know that Madonna isn't the greatest actress in the world and in fact she's a recording artist, but declaring she's the worst actress of the millennium is completely unfair. I mean: there are a lot of talented and over-acclaimed actresses who made and still make embarrassing and over-commercial movies an nobody says nothing about that. Madonna with this small production movie directed by her husband didn't made such a disaster as everyone has said. A lot of critics destroyed it before having seen it only because she was acting there. I think it's a worth-seeing movie, you won't regret it 'cause it's an innocent, nice and enjoyable movie. Last thing: two final scenes were shot, a happy and a sad one; after the horrible acceptance at the first screening in which the happy end was shown Guy and Madonna decide to choose the sad one 'cause they knew the movie would have a sad end..

excellent documentary
1 March 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This is a very good example of what a documentary of a musician should be: music, private life, beliefs, we really have the illusion of entering in her life. The difference with Truth Or Dare and this latter shows how much Madonna has changed in this last decade. But let's talk about the documentary: it opens with the pop star choosing her dancers and it's a very good beginning. Then there's a bit of politics: she asks her troupe not to vote for Bush and even Moore is interviewed during a live show of hers. The political part it's very short indeed while a lot of space is given to the artist's new belief: the Kaballah. The final part shows us Madonna in Isral talking in front of an audience of the importance of peace and the need of a better future for all those children with guns in their hands. The movie ends with two boys of two different religions holding their hands. It's very touching. There are of course some performances ( but not too much ): the stunning and stylish Vogue, the strong anti-war American Life, the moving Lament and Mother And Father and much more. Of course some Madonna detractors would find it pedant and pretentious, but the artist gives us a lot of beautiful and meaningful messages with this documentary and every one has seen it, has the impression that if we want we can make a better world. Really worths!

Beautiful unconventional love movie
28 February 2006
I think this movie deserves all the attention the press and the critic have witnessed. It's the moving story of the struggling, passionate and in someway tragic love between the two cowboys Ennis and Jack. Both Heath Ledger and Jake Gillenhaal give us a stunning performance that will make of them two stars. I'm very glad to see also that Michelle Williams has received the Academy Awards nomination for Best Supporting Actress and I see it as a great achievement for a so young actress who already had a great and serious career. It's definitely one of the best movies of this year and it's good to see that a non-conventional love movie can have such a success in a world full of prejudices.

incredible and touching movie to make you think..
7 February 2006
Warning: Spoilers
this movie shows, very sadly, how things are still nowadays in many families. Choosing Sicily as location is perhaps a bit stereotypical but no matter if you are in Sicily, or in Manhattan : a lot of people depend on other's opinion, damaging themselves and the people they love.. The story of Màrja is that of many women and her increasingly isolation is the result of the society that surrounds her.. A movie that makes us understand that we must think about our happiness and hour sanity and just live our way! Another important message is that of love, not "MArja's Love", but the love that witnesses the two daughters...The movie is very touching, with beautiful photography, music and great actors, from the stunning performance by Laura Malmivaaraby to that of Vincenzo Peluso, then those of the daughters, simply perfect! A must!
