The Ghoul (1976–1978)

always wanted to meet The Ghoul
21 December 2023
Although The Ghoul, Ron Sweed (former intern to Ghoulardi), was from Ohio his show was embraced by Detroit as well as kids like myself across the St Clair River in Sombra, Canada. Blowing up model toys fans sent in, torturing Froggy, and interjecting sound bites on b grade horror films; my favourite happened every time a telephone was answered and you would instead hear the Big Bopper's, "HELLO BAAAAAAAAYYYBBBEEEE"

amazing true fact: at age 13 Ron Sweed (Ghoul) interviewed The Beatles

I watched The Ghoul on channel 50, then 20, then 62 and after decades he was available by internet subscription. The man and crew's dedication throughout the expanding media choices is a testament to their artistic integrity (and I'm sure he'd laugh at that, but it's true).

I'm very fortunate to have met many of my heroes, but I never had the pleasure to meet Ron/Ghoul. He passed on April Fool's Day, 2019 and I will be forever grateful and inspired by his presence.

Happy to see the talent from Detroiters back at it. Refreshing humour for people like myself that never enjoyed Friends
