Dune: Part Two (2024)
Hard to put into words
As an avid movie fan I see plenty of movies, many average, many bad, a few good and once in while great. But I use the word great scarcely. Dune 2 is better than great. Oppenheimer was a great movie but I wouldn't rush back to see it a second time in the near future. Dune 2, I would see it again tomorrow. The story is on par to the Star Wars legacy, the acting, on par with Oppenheimer, the SFX better than the two movies just mentioned combined. When the movie finished (over 2 and half hours) I still wanted more. The emotional ride was like nothing I can remember from ANY movie I can remember. Best movie of the year? I don't think so, best movie of a generation is more akin to what I saw. Wish I could give it 11 stars.
The Last of Us: When We Are in Need (2023)
This series just keeps on giving
When I thought it couldn't get any better or intense, this episode just blew me away. To see Ellie pit her wits alone against a group of religious survivors without the help of her guardian angel, one would think its all over. The villian in this episode is David, Preacher whos morals are somewhat questionable. Elliie runs into him looking for medicine for the still very sick Joel. Cue some very slick script writing and acting. Shes goes with David into a town where you sense grief and unhappiness due to lack of food and the extreme cold weather. David sees Ellie as himself (although I sense he wants something else). Won't spoil the rest.
The acting is better than some of these Oscar nominated stars as is the script. Only shame was the duration of the episode (under 50mins). This series deserves every accolade coming to them and much more. Bravo HBO.
Gangs of London (2020)
Well directed and great storyline
Why all this negativity? When I watch something, I want my imagination to fly with the story. I am not expecting Eastenders or any serious realism. I want a James Bond style storyline and this ticks all my boxes. The film editing and direction are above the normal standard and loved every episode.
I loved the first series and expected this to be slightly less enthrawling. Boy was I wrong. The storyline is better, the direction, characters, everything is so much better. This is a British ptoduction but feels like a super American production.
I salute Sky for taling the guts to make series 2 and hoping we don't have to wait 2 years till series 3
Series 3 PLEASE!
Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018)
Without doubt - The best MI movie ever made
Whilst i have enjoyed the MI movie series, they were never great movies. They were never in the bracket 'OMG guys, you'e gotta see the film'. So when this movie started I was not expecting to see a 'Great Tom Cruise' flick. Oh was I wrong. Without giving too much away, this film connects with the last MI instalment No. Some over the good guys and bad guys all return alongside some new ones. The storyline has merit (albeit a little over the top but thats what you would expect with such a movie) but what stands out are the stunts scenes. Not much CGI was used and you could pretty much Mr Cruise did his own stunts. The film was that good it didn't feel like a 2 and a half hour movie and the pace, emotion, adrenaline, suspense kept me glued to my seat. Go a watch the best Tom Cruise movie in years.
This message will self-descruct in 5 seconds.....
Den of Thieves (2018)
Wasn't expecting this.
For starters, the is Curtis Jacksons (AKA 50Cent) bbest movie to date and by a mile. One of Gerald Butlers best works in recent years, this movie reminded me so much of Heat (1992 Al Pacino/Di Nero classic). I couldnt help but think the writers had this as their inspiration. There were a few holes in the story but it didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying this fast paced movie.
Casino Royale (2006)
Wow!
Before I entered the theater, I had the feeling that I was going to be disappointed. How wrong was I! Mr Daniel Craig has delivered in full the most realistic performance of Mr Bond. He is on par with Sean Connery. With his brutal performance of 007 together with a great storyline makes Casino Royale the best Bond flick in my opinion since Goldfinger. I sincerely hope is will not be his last. Don't miss it! On the down side, Im use to seeing the bond flicks loaded with gadgets and in this one, I was disappointed by the lack of Q merchandise. The film seems a little too raw but more than makes up to it by the sterling performance of Daniel Craig and a truly great storyline. You will not be disappointed
