Copenhagen Cowboy (2022)
Nice visuals, that's itr
The cinematography and the way they have created the atmosphere is remarkable, but they waste a great opportunity to solve it in a good way, it is not going anywhere, the acting is not bad but it is difficult to watch during 6 episodes with the same shots in circle, is just dizzy, dont think that is absolutly necessary for the viewer to understand the idea, we understand, we are not idiots... waste of time.
If you have the chance, a weekend, nothing to do, you can see it instead of picking your eyeballs, theres a lot of directors and ideas chasing for an opportunity, hard to see how Netflix pay for this...
Not very excited for season 2.!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, está bien... (2020)
Refreshing the cheap mexican comedy movies scenario
A controversial film which differs of those writers and directors in their debut that want to set fire to generate comments, "Ok, esta bien" is lightly tasted despite its theme, clear references to Woody Allen's Manhattan, in fact there are Woody Allen everywhere, great inspiration from the writer. Roberto Andrade's performance (screenwriter and comedian) feels fresh, natural, almost effortless despite having no instruction in it. The main controversy of an older man in love with a minor, although politically incorrect, uncomfortable, difficult to swallow in these times, somehow works, a pity that it does not have mass distribution because this is something that does good to comedy and to cinema in general in Mexico, courage and passion to carry out a project that seemed to have been born dead, now alive enough to inspire other filmmakers to follow in his footsteps ... give yourselves the opportunity to see it without prejudice!
Honey Boy (2019)
Bitter taste, great movie!
Shia gives us an intimate, personal and uncomfortable work about the story that made the man and actor he is at the moment. Always thought that Shia was a weird man, it is easy to judge someone who "has everything" and still have self-destructive attitudes, in this movie, the reasons are clear water, an absent mother and a broken father, consumed by how he conceives himself and by the envy caused by his son's success, something that he never could achieve. Otis, the character that represents the childhood of Shia interpreted beautifully by Lucas Hedges, is a child tormented by living in a dysfunctional family and for not knowing what is to be loved by the people who are supposed to do it. The baseball game scene doing pantomime is probably the cutest moment and at the same time the most heartbreaking in the film. All relationships are difficult and nobody is taught to be a father, behind every broken and abusive father it is very likely that there is another home just as broken and full of abuse. Otis's character as an adult in rehab is diagnosed with PTSD, just like his father when he returned from the war, but, is not worse than a war to live feeling that you are not loved? Excellent work of the director who knew how to keep the essence of the script based on the Le Beouf's recordings during her time at rehab. A film that bothers and leaves a bitter taste in the mouth ... like life itself.
Monos (2019)
Very good movie considering the low budget, love it!
I don't understand the hate of someone who qualifies a movie with one star just because "it's boring". Maybe "Monos" is not for everyone, but nobody can say that with the low budget available their creators have done a splendid job, the cinematography by Jasper Wolf takes advantage of the magnificent landscapes of what it means to be the Colombian jungle. A film without a clear situation of time or place but that was not necessary since it goes deep into the nature of the human being, we all have evil within us and Alejandro Landes, its director, explores it impeccably. Clear references to "Lord of the flies" with winks like the pig's head, if the influence was no longer obvious. A crude vision of what is the militarization of children in what could be the FARC in Colombia, maintains the interest of the spectator and only in the end looks like it may not end up paying what was invested for an hour and 40 minutes. A film with a very low budget, with almost all the cast without acting experience previously with a brilliant cinematography and scenes that could never be filmed in a Hollywood movie (the scene without stunts on the rivera are impressive). The best of Latin American cinema in the last two years.
Capharnaüm (2018)
Touching, beautiful and heart breaking performance
A jewel that pass unnoticed to the academy awards (I don't understand why), the heartbreaking performance of young Zain al Rafeea who lived in the flesh the hopelessness and suffering of being a refugee (Beirut). Incredible performance of the barely 12 years old boy at the time of filming who never after received any acting preparation. An honest, brutal and uncomfortable story, that bothers you, same way should bother us the situation that suffer and lived millions of people every day with the global refugee crisis.
Sometimes there is no hope, sometimes we build it every day as Zain shows us in his journey. A 126 min film well directed by Nadine Labaki who won the jury prize at Cannes, a jewel of Lebanese cinema that will make me remember Zain's gaze for a long time, unmissable, not a second of waste. Enjoy!
