The Pope's Exorcist (2023)
Both Crowe and the story are great!
A really good exorcist movie that had everything I expected and much more.
Firstly a solid greater story as the background of all events, involving the inquisition, the Pope and church in general; combined with a carefully chosen succession of smaller events adding a lot of mystery and tension building up constantly.
Then Crowe's choice as the main character couldn't have been better! He replicates his Gladiator performance by acting strong while fighting his faith - where you can read all the rich feelings on his facial expressions and talking (including delivering some longer lines in Italian), and also with very well-placed slight humor touches and one-liners.
The other actors were solid too, especially the child, I was impressed by the practical effects done with his face.
Very good ending too, not as other exorcist movies. I strongly recommend it!
Moonfall (2022)
Very good Sci-Fi action movie
The movie meets all expectations that one has coming to it based on the genre and the trailer. It even exceeds them because of the very good special effects and the originality of the story. Good acting too. Intense thriller moments as well.
A negative part, which I understand is very annoying for many reviewers here, might be filling up the movie with at least half an hour of poor side-stories, exceeding the 1h30 min that the movie should have. Pity, because those parts really spoil the momentum the movie has reached by that time. And because of that we also get a quite abrupt ending.
But overall a good entertaining movie.
Halloween Ends (2022)
Excellent, different than rest of the series
An excellent build-up in the first half of the movie, with a little subpar ending.
I guess most of the bad reviews here come from the traditional Halloween fans expecting a similar movie to the previous ones.
They are right in this matter, nevertheless the movie is great to watch even by itself, while coming as non Halloween-fan, only a little bit familiar with the previous movies.
The characters are well developed and the story keeps you alert and curious about what will happen next. Of course, there are some less important side-stories and weird decisions and so, but the plot as a whole is solid and original for the series.
F9 (2021)
Really bad, B class
I like these movies, one of the best action series, but F9 is just way too bad comparing to the rest... I don't know where to start... There are so many long and empty dialogues that I felt embarrassed watching. At most B-level fight scenes (loooong poooor fist fights; 10 people shooting at once and missing from 5 meters... I couldn't believe my eyes...). The writing was just extremely weak....
The Green Knight (2021)
Nothing, except the scenery...
I wonder how this movie gets the current score here when all the reviews I read are only 1-3 stars... I never interrupt watching my movies but with this one I had to take a couple of breaks just to read some news or so... The pace is slow and there is no plot except to wait for the final moment... which moment was so dull and boring.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Although a bit slow, great movie!
I agree with others that the pace was a bit slow but this was complemented pefectly by the scenery and special effects - which were fantastic - so I didn't mind at all watch a longer scene with very nice backgrounds and music too.
The relation with this daughter got an excellent closure, his sacrificing of the family relation for the science paying up fully in the end when his daughter is saved.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
I can't believe how bad this was
Where is this grade 5.7 coming from when I only see reviews of 1-3 stars in the review list? And yes, maximum 3 should be...
Such a huge difference from the first WW. A fully chaotic and bad story, lame childish dialouges, even special effects at times were bad. Acting was decent from the main protagonists but could not save the movie. 2h30m draaaaagged along with repetitive bad dialogues...
Lockout (2012)
Really exciting and funny too
The action is great, it keeps you tense all the time, the funny one-liners are very good throughout the whole movie - without being artificial at all, the sci-fi elements are in their place and the acting too, all actors deliver fantastic performances that match their roles very well! A must see for many types of movie lover.
Battleship (2012)
Had it all
Just sit back and enjoy, don't try to over-analyze the scenes scientifically...
Well done in all aspects: action, heroism, drama, comic scenes, tension sometimes.
Too bad for Taylor Kitsch that critics didn't like the John Carter movie (even though that one was good too) and everything went downhill for him for a while then, but he is a good actor, fitting perfectly this kind of movies.
Vtorzhenie (2020)
Entertaining; fantastic CGI effects
The CGI effects are definitely on Marvel-level and the actors quite good, especially Alexander Petrov - who plays a very original part in this movie in a great manner! The alien-actor though seemed a bit misplaced, but mostly because screenwriter's choices - who were questionable in many places. I agree with other reviewers that action sometimes is rushed out without no apparent reason.
And nice grandiose display of Russian military, on Independence-Day-level, very professionally done.
As mentioned by others, I recommend watching the first Attraction movie before jumping in the second part, it will help feeling the movie a bit better; and the first part is also quite good.
Marrowbone (2017)
Fantastic
What a fantastic movie, that I came across by chance, very surprised that I've never heard of it earlier. Because it is excellent, the story keeps you alert the whole time and the acting is superb from everyone.
There is both drama, romance, suspense, a few tense jump scares and not to mention the exceptionally good last part, where you literally live and hope with the main characters.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Good acting but that's all
The acting is great, as mentioned in my review title, and I fully understand and respect the homage to that Hollywood era, but apart from that there is no coherent action in the movie, just a chain of real life events with basically no connection in between, over a way too long movie duration, and much less humor than we are used to with Quentins movies.
Red Sparrow (2018)
Excellent story, drama, thriller, romance
The story in this movie is so good, finally a spy movie at a high political level where the action is nevertheless down to earth, you feel it so real even though we are talking about the highest government levels. The action is good too and it requires just the right amount of concentration to follow, as oppose to many other over-complicated spy movies. On top of that we have a good romantic story with a few great dramatic twists.
Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
Bad old-style teenage movie
They seem they have lost their way in the Conjuring universe, with The Nun and this one... Coming from Annabelle 2, where there was a clear story and a creepy evolution of events, this one is a cheap flick with three girls inside a house for one and a half hour with absolutely no story, just opening and closing doors. The Warrens are in the movie only for a couple of minutes and do nothing. Such a waste of time.
The Nun (2018)
No story at all!
I could not believe my eyes how bad the story was. Having all the necessary prerequisites (creepy church building, nice environments, good actors and filming) it was such a wasted opportunity when the story is basically chaotic, some jump scare here and there with apparently no story thread, border annoying. The nun is shown already in the beginning, no clear clever explanation of origins or evolution is given. Like other reviewers said, the appearance of the nun in Conjuring 2 was hundred times better than this full movie.
Ghost in the Shell (2017)
A very good sci-fi movie
I watched this movie without seeing or knowing about any earlier originals, so I guess by not needing a comparison with something else, the movie itself was great.
I admit that on one-two occasions the CGI-effects were a bit poor, and there was too much shooting here and there, but the action and mystery were excellent, and the music and the general CGIs sublime.
The white costume was weird, but I guess this "had" to be like this to respect the earlier original. The same with the walking style of the main character, unnecessarily strange and "robotic" in places.
Beyond Skyline (2017)
Excelent in almost every way
A very well-done Sci-Fi movie, it has everything: first-class special effects (both computer generated and practical), action, drama, suspense, music and some original ideas. I didn't either notice any camera shaking stuff, it was very professionally filmed too - like the "bigger" movies. Such a pity it had to follow the poorly-reviewed "Skyline" movie and not come to more cinemas. It really deserved that, as the sound and music were also very good.
And I guess many of the poor reviews of this movie here are based on its second half (which wasn't either bad), because the first half of "Beyond Skyline" stands out as a fantastic Sci-Fi/action movie that keeps you glued to the screen. And I also recommend watching the first "Skyline" before this one, you'll see why...
