Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
Beautiful film
Seriously. What's wrong with humanity? All these people who give this film a 1/10 have lost their mind. Don't take a single one of these review scores seriously. That isn't a question of opinion. Those people have an agenda. They're bitter human beings, hiding in the anonymity of the internet behind their desk and post their biased, pitiful buzzwords. Review-bombing a film for kids, how pathetic and miserable are they?
Seriously, I respect different kind of opinions. I respect that people perceive and rate films differently. I would accept it if people give that film a 4/10 or a 10/10 because they genuinely believe that and because that's in a range that I would see as "plausible". But anyone who gives this film a 1/10 is not a reviewer. These persons are totally biased and not qualified to give a proper score.
The film was wonderful. Animations are top-notch. The story is clichéd, but okay. In the end, it's a movie for kids and even though I still like watching Disney films, they can't be compared to complex, non-animated films because they're targeting a different audience. So I'm not expecting a film like Memento here, but that should be obvious... Although the film lacked the typical songs, I found the soundtrack quite beautiful and atmospheric. To sum it up, it's a nice story and an overall beautiful film for everyone.
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
Internet 2019 is doomed
It was a good episode. I very well share the opinion, that the quality in terms of script and character development has decreased since season 5. Especially since season 7. It was a bad decision to shorten the last two seasons. Many things were rushed, many details missed and some scenes were just not logically to explain. This I acknowledge. However, as a critic, I have to have be as objective as possible. Even though I expected more from season 7 and 8, they're still very solid. And this goes also for this episode. Yes, some scenes were not very well shot - again - for example Dany burning down Eurons fleet with no scratch. But her actions afterwards were at least plausible if you watch back to everything she already did in the past and if you try to understand her. She lost her mind. The rest of the episode was mostly good or even very good and I don't refer just to the visuals here. Only plot armor Jamie vs. Euron was a bit out of place.
To sum it up: A good episode in a - unfortunately - bit disappointing season for GoT standards. But still a great tv show.
The 1 star ratings are just wrong, but this goes also for all the 10 star ratings. It's a shame that more and more people are not able anymore to review something objectively and fair. I do not have a problem with different ratings or tastes, but those overhyping and overcritical people are just annoying and wrong.
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Disappointing
I'm surprised and a little bit shocked about the high average score for this Episode. But maybe, I should have known it already. The fact, that more and more casuals were watching this show over the last 2-3 years. Casuals with less expectations for a good, logical script. Don't hate me, but it's just the way, I see them.
Yes, the episode was great in terms of visuals and sound. It was thrilling, I give it that. But nonetheless, it lacked the typical GoT mix of killing main characters - if necessary and explained/shown plausible - and thouroughly planned story. Characters like Sam, Jamie or Brienne should have died, given the fact, how much surrounded they have been shown during the fight. Jon and Dany seemed almost as lost as the Unsullied and the other fighters. The battle may looked great, but what was their plan in the first place? Why would they run straight into the enemy's hands? This didn't make sense to me.
I was also disappointed in how the Night King died. For 8 seasons, he was built up as the main enemy. And that's it? You still don't know much about him. You still don't know what's the role of Bran in all of this. Yeah, we know a little bit, sure. But I thought, there's more to come. Instead, he died very quickly and somewhat... easy? I'm not sure what to think about Arya, too. Yeah, she's cool and has learned cool moves. But she was never directly tied to the Night King, or so we all thought. I do not say, that Jon has to be the "Azor Ahai". I even thought, Jamie or Jorah would be cool choices. But Arya out of knowhere (how did she get to him that fast?) and in such a simple way, was a bit disappointing...
Yes, it's still a great series. One of the best in history. And it was a good episode. But still, I expected more. But that goes for the last 2-3 seasons already. It's noticeable, that the series getting worse and worse after the show directors took over without the book as a reference. They made the show a bit too "Hollywood"-like. Yeah, it's cool to watch. The casual people love that. But there are more plot holes or inconsistencies than before. My critic is on a high level, I know that. But I think it's safe to say, that it could have been better written and shot.
