Pontypool (2008)
Mazzy in The Morning
Great idea- a zombie apocalypse from the views of a radio morning show. Only going by call ins, news updates, man on the street reports. Some really creepy audio. But then when it comes to the why... infected words? Cmon. That's a little too much for me. We don't need a why. I think it would be so much better without one. Leaves more of the mystery. A zombie apocalypse that takes place in a radio station is a great idea. But I felt it tried to be too much at the end. So many movies have great ideas but then don't seem to know how to tie them up. But that's the thing. You don't NEED to always tie it up. Leave it even more mysterious.
Black Mirror: Smithereens (2019)
Topher Grace's FINEST work
Hands down an absolute master force of a project. Performances that blew me away. I never cared for Topher Grace...until now. This was his greatest moment, in my opinion . Gut-wrenching in all the right ways. Roles like these often get unsung. Everyone was stellar. It's not my favorite episode. Not even close actually, but I think it's the finest episode yet. It's a slow burn, like most episodes, but those are the best kind of burns. I really wanted to make a review highlighting Topher. Grace's exercise as Billy Bauer. I have 69 characters left to use. And that's the sexiest number there is! Black Mirror rules.
Mad God (2021)
A mixture of red and black
Eraserhead plus Dante's Inferno in the style of a late 1990s TOOL music video. This was a masterpiece in intense visuals brought on by intense and fierce dedication. Disturbing and oddly fascinating, this forgotten skill should not be dismissed. This is definitely NOT for everyone. But those who enjoy the dark, dreary, disgusting, and macabre- this is a must watch/experience. Impressive and precise. But it also begs the question of whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy? I'm halfway through the movie but I feel as if I've been watching for hours. But not necessarily in a bad way. I know there will be no closure. But let's see this through. Jelly Eyes would like this.
Crimes of the Future (2022)
Performances are solid
A movie about performers presented by superb performances. The cast is outstanding. The movie is interesting and different and creates a world of mystique and surrealism. Starts off purposefully shocking. But expect shocking and odd when you're watching Cronenberg. Sometimes funny and I don't think on purpose. I have a half hour left.
I'll brb.
Ok. So. Ending wasn't worth the journey. But VIGGO is good.
Like I said the performances are great by everyone involved. But it's just kinda dumb. Nothing is really explained to a point that makes sense. Like. Lol. No one feels pain? How does having a motion-theater chair help you eat? And again, why is eating hard? And plastic-eaters would be AMAZING! Get to work, guys! Lol. Why try to get rid of them?! Employ them to get rid of garbage! Weird and ultimately. Not worth it. Sorry.
The Green Knight (2021)
Beautiful Mush
Gorgeous film. Absolutely beautiful with every shot, frame, angle and light. But c'mon. What was that? Sure it's an old poem and a has a deeper meaning. But it's beyond me. If it's gonna be weird (and slow) than go for it. Double down. Make it EXTRA bizarre. Or make it shorter.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
I can't with these
There are just too many plot holes it takes me out of it. Like these super hearing creatures can't hear a room full of adrenaline soaked hearts beating? Or people breathing? But can't hear over water which makes up most of our planet? And ALL the worlds armies and militaries and scientists, not 1, thought to maybe use sound frequencies on the sound monster? Really? Oh. And just a shot gun? So no one in the world got a lucky shot off? I had to turn it off. Idk y I even bothered. I hope the monsters win.
Stuber (2019)
Legit LOLs
Idk why this was panned. I really laughed a lot. I like both the leads. The action was good but the banter was great. They were a good pair and I'd love to see another one. S2ber! #LetsGOOOOO.
Jolt (2021)
Unwanted twist
It was ok. But the twist was unneeded, unwanted, and unsmart. The cops were good. The lead was good. It's def not a movie you NEED to see. If you did like it, the ending leaves it open for more.
Army of the Dead (2021)
We All Wanted To Like This
Weren't we all excited for this? I like Snyder's work and I love Batista. But this was just not good. And I am just exhausted with the genre. The last zombie movie I like was, ironically, Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead. I just feel like everything that can be done kinda has. The characters weren't really likable. And the action is shooting zombies in the head. Nothing new. And it's looooong.
I Care a Lot (2020)
I don't understand the 1stars
My dad told me to watch this cause we are both big Dinklage fans. And he was great. I knew the plot so yeah, I MAY have FF'd til I saw The Dinkster. And I thought it was really good. The ending really made it. And then the ending -ending was like a double knot. So. Idk y there are so many 1 star reviews. The acting was great by everyone. It is worth a watch.
News of the World (2020)
Hanks is good, he's Hanks.
I was excited to see Hanks in a western. Yet I hate to say it, but it just never really grabbed me. And I was pretty surprised at the low quality of the CGI. A let down all around.
2067 (2020)
Don't Try To John Connor Yourself
It was fine. But. You can't do something before you've done it. Simple. Lots of emotion portrayed by the main character. Must have been an exhausting shoot for Kodi Smit-McPhee.
The New Mutants (2020)
Surprisingly Dull
It's a shame it couldn't have been more intense. It was a bit dull and didn't feel like anything super new and exciting. I would have liked to see a more raw and dark horror version. Tho not necessarily a supernatural movie in the traditional sense, but an interesting idea of how a haunting would go with a house of enhanced humans. But, shrug.
The Mandalorian (2019)
Fun and enjoyable
Great stuff all around. My only beef is way too much dues ex machina. But visually stunning, capturing the feel and style of Star Wars. Great characters and performances. Costumes and make up, all top notch. But too many times , last minute saves, gets obnoxious. It's why i stopped watching The Walking Dead. And I don't want to stop watching The Mandalorian. So. Fingers crossed.
Tenet (2020)
Confusing ...naturally.
Interesting concept. A couple times characters literally tell you not to overthink it and to just go with it. So kudos for that. Good for you, Nolan. Action was stylish and creative. So again kudos. But the interwoven deep concepts were lost on me. But that fight scene was absolutely brilliant and stunning (well- 2 fight scenes really). But over all - middle of the road for me- but I respect it
Greenland (2020)
Can't a disaster movie be about the disaster?
All the cool stuff is in the trailer. Everything is "oh no! But we've been selected to be saved! Yay! Oh no! We forgot little Nathan's insulin! I'll go get it! Oh no! I've become separated from my wife and child! Are they here...? No. Are they here....? No. Are they here....? Yes! Yay! And we're saved! Oh no! We're not! Oh wait, we are! Yay!" There. I just saved you $12.
Fantasy Island (2020)
Surprisingly Fun!
So. Lots of bad reviews for this. DONT LISTEN! This is a fun and different movie. JUST GO WITH IT. HAVE FUN!! Everyone is such a critic. And nothing is ever good enough for anyone. Get over yourselves and just have a good time! Come in low. Leave high!
