The Collector (2009)
What's the opposite of plot armor?
The movie early on reminded me of the Saw franchise with cinematography and the increased use of themed props. Personally, I wasn't amused that the title hinted at something other than a slasher movie.
One thing I feel the movie lacked was how Josh Stewart's character's family parallel the situation he's in. We understand that his ex-wife needs help paying for her apartment. What kind of debt, who knows? It could be anything from drugs to gambling. The movie really focuses on action that feels casual when they bring up Arkin's (Josh Stewart) family. I would like to have more understanding if that organization has to do with the antagonist. Or why someone collects people other than why they don't like you. The movie looks and feels great, the acting is there, but like I said, it feels like the movie is missing parts. I didn't like the ending because of how traditional the movie is in the slasher genre. How can some one be overpowered by someone with such a small frame? Only if he eyes glow.
Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981)
They probably eased the violence for this one.
For a film of its time the violence is minimal if your expecting something like pumpkin head or Friday the 13 's finesse. It doesn't mean its bad it's different but enjoyable seeing how the the story unravels. Again because many people like myself do not know it was aired on Television in 1981 you might over hype your self and judge it heavy.
The story has a prologue that explains the events that the events root them selves. It is revenge movie that for the most of the acting feels natural except starts falling apart towards the end. The ending is not bad, the story's second half feels weird. They changed genres making it have that good old 80's charm.
Holds up to date.
Fear Filter (2019)
Great short film that could have become a feature.
For a film that has been seen for a while know on YouTube (3.1 million views) it is a shame that no executive has approached the director/writer into creating a feature film. While the premise is short and to the point. The acting and visual effects are well done. But If there was lore or anyway for the audiences to be superstitious of their phone after watching the film this would have become "COME PLAY"
Breaking Spirits (2016)
Try hard preppy horror film
The story follows Holly Sung, an exchange student, Holly Sung, who is racially, sexually and psychologically bullied, All in 3 days. This aspect the film really does do good job in making the Audience hate the "mean" girls. But really fails in having a meaningful connection between any of the characters.
The Teens don't have motives and the Adults are too pig headed and are there just to deliver lines. For example The guardian of Holly Sheryl Mullens was just a character to add production value to the film, the character was a singer of some kind that was having minor success. So of course they had to show her at a studio and at a small venue. This character could just appeared only once in the film and would have made the same amount of impact. All the other adults really are just place holders and rising action. Noting but generic and bland you feel nothing for them. Specially at the end you would expect a more than a one liner. when it happens it disappoints.
Remember the moral of the story bullying is not OK and revenge isn't the Jedi way.
The Carrier (2015)
No need to run they ain't biting
In the film "The carrier" it follows a group of survivors fleeing of a pandemic. The Film takes the Virus and tries to convince the audience the pandemic is really an apocalyptic moment. The film has every thing a large military presence, news reports about the infected. Then you see the infected with reflexes and reasoning as those unaffected by the virus. The deference is they have tumors growing across their faces. If the "infected don't bother you" the kills will. No one in the film seems to know how to check for pulse. The film relies heavily on bringing back what ever thing they just thought was dead as a action sequence. It gets to the point every act repeats it's self on the next. I was expecting the film to have a plot twist but it only disappointed.
Anomaly (2016)
forgetful at its best
The script has no character development or personality each line could be interchanged and would be predictable. Combine this with a bland performance, you have a film that that is on autopilot.
