The Last Full Measure (2019)
A True American Hero!
After seeing 1917 I really wasn't expecting much when I started watching the movie. 1917 would be a tough act to follow. I have to say now that at least for me...the true war Story vs a hearsay war story was way better.. At the time I knew nothing about William Pitsenbarger. I'm glad I refused all temptation to do a Google Search before watching the movie, I simply followed the story and was not disappointed. Beautifully written and I'm sure you will tear up, once you hear multiple witnesses describing the Airman's heroics.
Rare Exports (2010)
What a Scary and Pleasant Christmas Surprise
I just saw "Rare Exports" on Netflix. It is listed on Netflix under the movie title "Rare Exports- A Christmas Tale". This is one was of the darkest Santa Claus tales I have ever seen. It's definitely not good for small kids, unless you wish to scar them for the rest of their life. However if they are a teen, or Walking Dead Fan, I'm sure they will love the movie. Even though the opening is in English, the movie is in English subtitles. The movie flows and is quite suspenseful. Now if you love a horror Christmas Classic, you will not be disappointed. I might put a "bear trap" in my fireplace after seeing this one and suggest you do the same. "Rare Exports" gets 4 out of 5 stars from me.
Strange Wilderness (2008)
"It so stupid, that it's hilarious"
I saw Strange Wilderness a few years ago. All the reviews I read for the movie were terrible and when I went to IMDb, I didn't expect much to change. Personally I had never laughed so hard at movie in my life. "Strange Wilderness reminded me of the movie "Airplane", which was just as stupid, but you ended up laughing yourself silly. Now for those who loved the movie "The Hangover", I'm sure you this movie just as funny. Steve Zahn and his band of idiots kept you rolling throughout their trek to find Big Foot. Strange Wilderness is one of those movie you can have a blast watching with friends(the crazy ones that will get you locked up). It's no surprise that "Strange Wilderness" didn't receive any Oscars. I did think it was worthy of better reviews. When it comes to Comedies I have to put the movie in my "all time top 20". If you are a serious movie critic, there really is no point in wasting your time viewing. Now for those who aren't so serious about their movies, "Strange Wilderness" is a definite must see!
The Book of Eli (2010)
How Can You Mend a Broken World
Good movies always find a way of immersing the viewer into the movie. Sometimes it's through a sudden event and other times it can be just a subtle moment. In the movie The Book of Eli it was one of those subtle moments. The scene focused Eli listening to a tune on his I Pod. The song playing was "How can you mend a Broken Heart". This tune was made famous by the Bee Gees, the rendition used in the movie was one by Al Green.
I could immediately tell why the producer chose the later version by Al Green. The song's calming effect immediately transported us into that room with Eli. The lyrics of the song were a memorable reminder of the past and what he was feeling in the present. These are feelings I'm sure we could all identify with at some point in our lives. From that point in the movie on, we found ourselves ready to accompany Eli on his journey. Eli was a journey based solely on hope and faith. There were reminders to us all along the way of the things in life we often take for granted(one which even included one of those little bottles of shampoo you get from a hotel). One doesn't have to be a Christian to appreciate movie, but I'm sure some will view it that way. The message the movie conveys is a good one for all to see. The Book of Eli is well worth watching. Denzel Washington gives another great command performance. The supporting cast is a great fit for the movie, all giving excellent performances.
