Bortført (2021)
Derivative Drivel
In the terrorist kidnapping genre, The Girl from Oslo contains not a single solitary original thought. Everything in it has been done countless times before, and far better. Many reviewers have savaged the acting but it's really the insipid script that's to blame.
Which doesn't leave the viewer without some pleasures, such as debating which character is more boneheadedly annoying: the mother or her kidnapped daughter? It's neck and neck.
The Stranger (2020)
Addictive nonsense
This mega-bestselling author has found the magic formula for sucking people into preposterous tripe.
River (2015)
Not Wanted: Dead or Alive
The rather bland opening scene, lots of aimless blah blah chatter, suddenly becomes something much different when the show lets you in on its secret -- one of the characters is dead! And only the main character can see her! Wow, now there's a conceit you haven't seen countless times before.
Then another dead person pops up, and another, and another. You can almost hear the writers whispering, "Did we fool ya again? Dead or alive?"
Who cares? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice... If this kind of tired hokum is your cup of tea, by all means, watch on. Me, I'm outta here. If you want a truly original dead people among us tale, go (re)watch The Sixth Sense, which did it far more cleverly and brilliantly nearly 20 years ago.
Agent X (2015)
In the first 60 seconds...
...Agent X rolls out one of the most overused tropes in action drama: the bad guy trains a gun to the head of the hero, BLAM!, the bad guy falls dead -- shot by an unknown person behind. For good measure it quickly jumps to tired trope #2, the old hanging hero's legs around the bad guy's neck.
Two in one, but wait, there's more! Each seen-it-a-million-times-before flop returns later in the episode. I was so hoping they'd go for three, but alas, no.
When you get such lazy derivative writing in the first minute, how much worse can it get? Watch and you'll see. Ludicrous plotting -- mailed-in performances -- action sequences on the cheap. In short: unmitigated garbage.
But do watch so you can see this teeth-gnashingly awful show before the plug gets pulled.
