Are We Lost Forever (2020)
Godawful screenplay
Talented actors and good cinematography do not save the show, due to the poor screenplay. The dialogue is simply not believable; the characters express their emotions as if they had been watching daytime soap operas all their lives.
Munich (2005)
A really good and and a mediocre movie
A really good and a miserably bad movie at the same time. Good in the way it trusts the viewer to know the historical facts; the acting is good and the photography is excellent. Yet there are so many illogical things in the screenplay it renders the whole thing mediocre. If the main point is the major character's evolving understanding that his killing of others is pointless, then too much of the film is wasted on close-ups on bombs, guns, and shootings, as they could have been kept to minimum while allocating more room to the main character's inner life and thoughts. Everything tastes half-finished, which astonishes me as Tony Kushner, whom I otherwise deeply respect for his "Angels In America" is credited for the screenplay. I really expected a less superficial work from him.
Looking (2014)
Awful screenplay
The excellent acting and directing do not save the day here. The screenplay is substandard - re-enforcing every imaginable cliché about gay men: they look, act and talk like female teenagers. They are petty, over-talkative and vain. They are obsessed about celebrities, etc. Etc. Not a single one of the multiple characters has any depth to speak of.
Élite (2018)
21-year old actors playing teenagers
This just doesn't fly. The actors are visibly in their twenties, yet supposed to portray teenagers. Also, their manner of speaking, and their body language does not even resemble the (supposedly) 16-17 year-olds they are supposed to play. The screenplay is not very believeable for the very same reason.
