Nobody's Perfect (1968)
Lighthearted Military Comedy
I enjoyed this comedy of a Navy con-man hijinks in Asia after World War 2. If you take any of this seriously than you are watching the wrong movie. The plot of the movie moves swiftly along, and Doug McClure, Nancy Kwan, David Hartman, James Shigeta, and James Whitmore are all fun to watch as the crew of the USS Bustard get into and out of trouble.
Ghost of the China Sea (1958)
Cliched B-movie war story set in the Philippines
Set in World War 2 Philippines, a diverse group of people try to escape the Japanese invasion by sea in a patchwork small ship. I saw the movie on youtube and it was a very good print. The cinematography was the best part of the film, it is a well shot film with beautiful black and white scenery. The plot moves quickly and follows a logical if cliched progression. However, the characters are little more than stereotypes and some of the dialogue is very corny. It is a very average action war film, it is enjoyable escapism if you do not expect too much.
Whole Lotta Sole (2011)
Enjoyable Caper Comedy
Enjoyed this light comedy heist. It is kind of like an old screwball comedy. It is fast moving film with a lot of twists and turns to the plot. There is no gritty realism and very little black humor. It is filmed in Northern Ireland with a very likable cast including Brendan Fraser, Colm Meaney, and Yaya DaCosta.
