The Gentlemen (2024)
Rate it a 10 just because we are desperate for more of these kind of entertainments
When it comes to shows following the movies and vice versa rarely it happens that they manage to hit the right spots other than milk the cow goal. Being a long time admirer of Guy Ritchie he basically never disappoints at least when it comes to stories told in a Guy Ritchie England universe. It's Gentlemen world but each episode stands for it self while a main story develops throughout the first season. In that way we are introduced with all kinds of specific Guy Ritchie type of characters that are the antagonists of that episode which I find refreshing and there are no filler episodes. The new cast doesn't need a lot of time for introduction. Due to a specific Guy Ritchie type of dialogs they go quickly under your skin and it's really well picked cast. Theo James gave his best performance in the White lotus second season and he's really natural in playing posh, high class society that no wonder people are calling for him being a candidate for new James Bond. It's not the snobbish class vibe but the raw and ordinary combined with the world of the rich that comes out of him. If Theo is 40% then Kaya Scodelario is the other 40% of the show. And the all kinds of characters make the remaining 20% for a full on lively and colorful spectrum of the story. One of my biggest joys is to see the always remarkable Vinnie Jones that has that stealing the screen presence and it wouldn't be the same without him. One of the best things aside of the rural English scenery, music and the yellow font prologue announcement is the flashback storytelling by various characters describing what happened to them rather than seeing it in one take continuity. Altogether this is one of the Netflix best shows by far and it might not be a perfect 10 (and why should something be perfect anyway?) but I give it that score just to add a tiny bit of my contribution to point out how the shows should look like. It's a rare and endangered species this one and that's why is a treasure.
Dune: Part Two (2024)
Nailed everything but music missed the vibe of the book
This is not going to be a popular review but I'm writing as someone who has read the book, is a fan of Villeneuve's work and couldn't wait for part 1. And even more part 2. To arrive. After watching the first movie I understood that those who had never read the book didn't get to appreciate how perfect job Denis Villeneuve had done, but fortunately many did, me among them, as it laid the path for the second part to unveil in it's glory. And in so many ways it did. Before I went to see this movie I've read the first reviews, especially the usually critical ones from the book fans and couldn't understand why're they always so picky, especially for Villeneuve, even if the movie in some of its parts strays away from the book. Never had that kind of critical view on the book adaptations as I understood that the directors job, freedom and subsequently risk is to choose a path and express their artistic interpretation. After viewing the second instalment I still don't see any bad things about how this movie was made regardless of it's differences from the book. It doesn't lose anything from the Dune story at all. Everything about this movie is top of the tops. Except one thing. My critical point about the second part of the Dune movie is the one of the most praised things in all the reviews. The musical score from the music grand master Hans Zimmer. Everyone praised it but I found way over the top, completely missed and messed up the whole vibe. Basically from the start this music and it's effects immerse you in extremely fearful and dark vibe sound pool that never leaves this 166min instalment. There are couple of times that the music atmosphere went to a calmer side but this was like ugly vibes all over the place, regardless who's in the scene... it was a constant. My take is that classic mixing the atmospheric sounds depending on the side showing would make it definitely better because the book doesn't have that evil vibe all the time at all. The book is a clear fight of good and evil and there are many divine or spiritual moments opposing the darkness in the book that emphasize that fight, light against the dark. Even prana the yogic life force of God (from vedic culture) is mentioned in the book. Among these sound effects that were shaking the whole hall, it was hard to swallow the voice of Lisan Al Gaib's demonic voice (as well as his mother) when he became one with everything, enhanced with a cruise ship subwoofer sound effect. That being said, Timothee Chalamet is not the best pick for the role, just can't see the charisma of Paul with his skinny appearance and face, standing tough like Ronaldo before taking the freekick. Paul should have eyes that speak everything and this Italian teenager lookalike, although good, just felt flat like he's trying to hard. Zendaya surprisingly great, constantly amazing Rebecca Ferguson has that charisma of stealing the screen presence and two best roles Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem made the center of the bullseye. Movie has the perfect scenery. Really everything is spot on but the music vibe kinda ruined it for me. That's not to say that mr. Hans Zimmer made a bad product, he did masterfully as always. But compared to the book it's too extreme, too dark or evil and missing the vibe of the story, in my humble opinion. I can see that dark things excite a lot of people today and so this music score is not a surprise in that way. But not for me. Another note, the media critics are writing about this movie grandiosity by comparing it to the Lord of the rings. Love and respect both but Dune doesn't come even close to LOTR masterpiece trilogy. This is another one of their empty, sensationalistic exaggerations.
Yellowstone: Watch 'Em Ride Away (2022)
Couldn't find a weak episode till now
Yellowstone has the whole concept made on firm ground. There's the cowboy life, beautiful ranch and nature, great dialogues, principles to fight for and always interesting events, twists and plots with worthy adversaries. This episode started with an intro where chief Rainwater agrees to meet with John Dutton and immediately in the beginning John cancels all the meetings. Why intro that didn't have anything to do with the episode? Second is the unnecessary attempt to promote nutrition values. Today's world works with parelel truths mutually colliding or correlating. Nutrition is just one of many. There's no way to prove to a vegan why slaughtering another life is justified for the sake of taste. Especially was pathetic attempt with 4 stomach theory. And goes the same the other way around to prove to meat eaters that meat is not good. To much time waisted to prove what, my lifestyle is better than yours? And they tried to be "too cool" and fist fight about it. Probably for frustrated people that would be a desired solution. So woman handled it like men and one tooth less after they showed each other respect. This is how we do it here one says. Like it's something special. And then the last week point comes with the mythical showing of riding out to the mountains. Like they're solders or superheroes. Fog was there. Soppy music. Tear down the eye. And a stupid sentence that's supposed to be wise. Whey too much dosage of pathetic that left a taste of forced that tried to hard to show it's special. If it's special it doesn't need this kind of promotion. Everyone beeing cool lined up while looking full of themselves. There are harsh conditions in the whole world and people living their lives with strength and dignity. There's no theater about it. Taylor Sheridan is slightly loosing the grip of natural flow it seems. Which is normal considering how much quality he provided until now it's incredible one person did all of that. My hope is this is a slipup in quality the show can afford and they will avoid the pathetic emotional promotion of look at me-I'm special in my pride lifestyle. Fingers crossed 🤞
Mayor of Kingstown: Staring at the Devil (2023)
Don't understand one thing
Why would a driver with his wife next to him and a toddler sitting behind, shoot at a policeman just because he stopped the car that was towing a boat? He didn't really send any gangsta/criminal vibe at all. Even if he had to go to prison for something from before why risk his family lives like this? Is this kind of situation based on reality or just Taylor went a bit sideways this time to create another shock that involves family with children? Was thinking that it's a bit wild to think that a part of society, not just this driver but also all the young people would behave like this, taking weapons in their hands and engage them selves into a very life risky situations where your life is ended or confined in prison. Otherwise a very suspenseful story, engaging and very entertaining.
Romantic Road (2017)
Beautiful film about road trip, adventure and life
I can't believe this documentary went under my radar. Being familiar with India, the utmost beauty and massive impact of impressions it brings in on all it's visitors, I can only show nothing more than respect for this lovey couple that did a life adventure that even local people in India were raising eyebrows about. At perfect golden age the beautiful couple showed what marriage is exactly, when they decided to embark on a one in a lifetime journey trough the whole Indian subcontinent (India, Nepal, Bangladesh), by defying all odds, prejudices and challenging will power, positive way of confronting life and courage itself. And it was a pure joy to watch. The best part of the documentary that it delivers on both levels, showing exactly what is India + countries are in a best possible way (nature, people and culture) and the beautiful life embracing couple, Jen and Rupert. He's strong-willed, courageous and positive hippie that grew up to be a London banker and she's his stronghold without non of this would be possible. They are the perfect opposites and a great inspiration. The best part is before the journey, when she said that their biggest worry is what will the children (adults) do if something happens to them (children) and they're so far away. That's the approach of life they have. That is a marriage of support, understanding and togetherness to strive to. Beautiful scenery, beautiful soundtrack, everything so full of life, energetic and of course none of this would be possible without the spotlight role the unbreakable Rolls-Royce carried out. See this movie just to remind yourself that dreams can be real and we should all strive and get inspired by them and not by reality. Btw the movie is produced by always amazing Sharon Stone. Perfect.
A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
There's no Christmas without it.
Every year, but every year we have to watch this brilliant cartoon in our house because it truly creates the Christmas vibe during that time of year. So many already worte reviews about it so not to lose time on something that's been described already. The soundtrack is brilliant..simply makes the best Christmas albums to this day. There are couple of other 80's movies like National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation or A Christmas story that make you think how those times had more magic to it and how we really want to recreate them in our homes so we play it again and again. It will never get old. And I believe it will be passed on for generations. Merry Christmas everyone.
Romancing the Stone (1984)
Adventureland dream for a child from 80s
This movie along with Goonies and Indiana Jones made my childhood a happy happy memory. Although I watched it who knows how many times renting it from a video store on a VCR cassette I decided to watch it after a long time because non of my family has seen it. Three generations of woman on a New Year's Eve and I had to pick a movie. A tricky thing to make them believe me it's a great choice for a celebration night and after I said that Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito they were little less skeptical. But mentioning Forrest Gump director Robert Zemeckis sealed the deal. And to watch this movie after 30 plus years on the New Year's Eve with family of all generations 2022 was a bingo! The ladies enjoyed it very much. Both exciting and fun. And to see this old movies when everything was made and done on a more inoncent or naive level than today, brings back nostalgia. They talked different, acted, behaved and dressed different and like the years even the haircuts were closer to 50s than to today's age. Michael Douglas is such a force of nature on screen and together with amazing Kathleen Turner it was a true adventure with pure love experience. They don't make movies like this no more. Today it's more shallow, more explicit violence or more caricature of everything. Even the woman on today's screen behave like men so they lost this innocence, modesty and tenderness that Kathleen and so many women of that age and before had. It's not by any means a movie that is going to make you think too much. It has a simple plot but great adventure that I can only wish someone can create again on that playful natural level. The period where two of them meet and travel together to get to the phone is the best part and has a special place in my childhood memories. Seeing it today again I can only confirm it.
The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
A true masterpiece because of its simplicity
Knowing very well how everyday life and mentality looks like in a remote small village in rough rural area I have to say this movie is spot on and closest to perfection as it can be. To create the atmosphere of the place, to make it alive with the language and the everyday life of Irish rural people a hundred years ago takes really a master work. You could see the slow life, what's important and how everyone details with it. Also the belief system was different and I loved everything about it. The scenery where every second is a postcard, a music score that is truly perfect and then the amazing but simple plot and the story. I can't really see how this movie missed rewards in Cannes and Venice if it was even running there in competition. I can't write a review here and not mention the most amazing movie duo today that should work much more together, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. It's so good to see them together again and they truly came as a cherry at the top of this masterpiece. Hats down to all actors and lastly the director Martin McDonagh. You can see clearly that he can't miss and is making movies that only rare few are able to do on that level. He's the reason why the movies as an art form are still alive. This may not become a cult movie but for me it's not only the best movie of the year by far, but top 5 in last 10 years or more. Even though I'm not fr Ireland but knowing how this kind rural, tough and raw life looks like and how they made it authentic in the movie on so many levels the rating should be 8.8 or but for me it's a 10.
Now a spoiler part of what I see the reason of brilliance of this movie. People don't get why they stopped being friends and why on Earth on of them would go so far and cut his fingers just to make a point that he doesn't want to be friends anymore. So living a slow and routine copy paste days in a island village where nothing happens a hundred years ago simple things can stir up complications. So being seriously depressed to the point you only want to leave something behind that people will remember is not easy at all. Especially if you have that but of an art flick in you. And to leave a memorable thing means you have to go extreme in an environment that knows only boring routine. So to cut ties because you overgrew someone who's only in the way of your only life goal but you meet all the time and can't avoid on a daily basis makes you go desperate in your depression. All that just to make the simplest things respected. In this case that ment cutting you own fingers so your best frend comes to understand that even if you didn't have any disputes you don't want to be friends anymore at all. If your friend disrespects your decision and your efforts that repeatedly drain your anyway low energy, you're walking that line of going completely mad and the only thing keeping you away from it is being alone, which you can't have. On the other hand the good-hearted friend suddenly lost a friend who was his world, because of what he is and he simply can't accept that he's the main reason for being friends and for stopping being friends. It's contradictory for his mindset so he tried to make sense and pursuing the contact hoping it's all a bad dream or a small, passable thing. Brilliant and even though simple in context many people can't get a hang of it why. The Banshee, Irish myth of a lady spirit that comes to someone's home and signals the death that's coming is the old lady in the movie. Did she cause the change of behavior or just a tough and depressing life that craves desperate for a gossip or that only local pub meetings can ease up leaves open doors to conclusions. Brilliant.
A Christmas Story Christmas (2022)
Christmas spirit captured - mission accomplished
Even though I read the positive reviews I still was relentless weather how the whole experience will be. We decided to watch it on Christmas. And we weren't wrong. Of course I'll always give extra credit just for recognizing that the old crew got together again. And they did amazing. They absolutely make the heart of the movie and managed to bring that good old feeling modern Christmas movies mostly lack and that's nostalgia for how we see Christmas in our hearts. Togetherness, light, joy and fun. And this movie although being made in 2022 actually takes place in the never regretted 80s. Just like the original made in the 80s was about 50s. Thank you for this beautiful experience on Christmas. Together with the first movie now we have a package of quality. Don't trust the average rating. It's better than that. Merry Christmas.
Incastrati (2022)
Unwatchable
Personally I had to stop to watch it on episode one. It started ok and while we got used that comedes today have to have at least one dumb character, here was a situation where both characters are like a caricature. If you like B quality than this is ok. For me personally I loved Inspectore Montalbano and though it's not the same genre if you compare it quality wise, this show is 3 levels below. Or the movie Tre uomini e una gamba is university level compared to this elementary school. Paolo Sortentino should hold a master class so this kind of series don't end up on places we pay monthly a lot of money but some TV stations that have this kind of content as business as usual. Bring good quality Italian and French cinema and shows to Netflix.
Split Second (1992)
A perfect B film better than 90% today's all films
If you look at numbers it earned 5,5mil $ and the budget was 7mil $. It was a flop. But this flop became something like a kult classic. Personaly it has that Blade Runner feeling with amazing late Rutger Hauer. It's perfectly atmospheric, has this 80/90s detective like Beverly Hills cop - Alien mix, with characters so basic its enjoyable. Flooded London cyber punk apocalyptic vibe in then close future of 2008 and the serial killer that's on the run, eating it's victims hearts and is 10 feet tall. Rutger is ruthless and fearless with his little cannon gun and a great duo with a nerdy partner he can't stand. I remember being 12 and my whole world was amazing then. One of the many reasons for that was this movie. We discussed how powerful the gun was that if you shoot a tree it would break it into peaces. Back then we had Indiana Jones, Karate kid and Goonies but this was some serious excitement. How I loved this movie. Unfortunately they don't make them anymore like this. Sometimes we get a surprise. Should be more often. Please Those Times, come back.
Mayor of Kingstown: Simply Murder (2021)
Too heavy
There is the world of ordinary and extreme and there was nothing simple or ordinary in this episode. Some people know nothing else other than that world. From a perspective of any parent this episode is the worst possible torture that goes trough your whole being while the episode feels like neverending so doesn't matter the quality you can't wait that it ends. This justice doesn't feel as proper justice.. it's vengeance and if you try to look at it from just one out-of-the-box perspective and that is a perspective of a deceased child soul watching fierce violence taking the life out of his father. You can imagine that child soul crying in shock by witnessesing what is happening while disregarding what has happened to him before that. You can imagine love so powerful it's forgiving because that soul is the only one capable to give that forgiveness. Children that age are so pure their love for their parents, their heros is endless and nothing but purity. The pregnancy scene was out of the world powerful and combined with the last scene where no one came to the funeral showing the endless circle of life and death and how pure goodness and evil coexist next to each other and they don't pick the right moment. Also no show child funeral let's you think how that soul had no chance in this world and being escorted completely alone in silence makes you question who was the justice for? One of the most powerful episodes altogether and came as such a surprise though the first scene actually anounced it I couldn't and will never be ready for this kind of thing.
Ozark: A Hard Way to Go (2022)
Morality as the biggest looser
In life threatening situations you either freeze, beg for your life or you fight till you're out of the danger. So did Marty with his seemingly stupid face expression while processing all the shocking and sureal situations he was in from episode one, season one till the end of the show. Him and the whole family had no choice and had to do everything for their survival. What is allowed in these situations? How far would anyone be allowed to go? What exactly is the moment that says to you this moral principle is more worthy than me, my wife/husband or my children? There was no going back. Only goal is to pass trough the exit sign. This way or another. So they went through hell, stayed there till the end and I believe they're still there. There's no way out for Byrde family. They almost lost lives countless times. To be under so much pressure and perform as they did you have to give them respect. How instantly Wendy and especially Marty react, process and accept the new reality of the situation that just hit them and stay like nothing happened while inside they're falling apart is amusing and amazing at the same time. And how they evolved as characters with time and experience. Amazing stuff. Ruth and her family is really the tragic characters in the show. They didn't deserve to die but except Three they all did. There is brilliance behind the warmness and compassion that awakes for basically all of them after the inital unlikeliness of the family as they presented them selves for a good part of the show. There's always some people in the review section asking for more blood. Disappointed because there was no kill them all Game of Thrones style in the last episode of the show. Who did they root for during the whole show? Because there is rarely a moral (or principal) worthy character except the Byrde family who had no choice but to become whatever to avoid getting killed. So after everything they been trough they should die because they fought for their lives and their family lives? Constant fighting, managing the impossible so in the end they could become trimuphant and survive. That is why the last obstacle was the brilliant detective who has seen so much trough his career but was week to drug use which ended his job he loved to do so much. At the end he got back the job, what he always wanted but was bothered even more that the Byrds got everything. They get to survive and became triumphant at the same time. Just like the last episode haters, he couldn't handle it so Jonnah had to act to assure the survival of the family. Brilliant in every way. Thank you for this experience. Others who find illogical situations and hate the ending don't worry, I'm sure that quickly you'll have another brilliant show to have a crack on after it ends.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Tom Cruise is American national treasure
It has typical blockbuster cliches, typical navy ego co.k measuring who's the best games, the bar with everyone Rock'n'Roll mode ON in it, the strong independent girl but too week for the hero, the cool old motorcycle together with the cool old propeller airplane and the coolest 80s sunglasses. But all this without Tom Cruise would be just another Jerry Bruckheimer movie who's name btw showed up 3 times before the first scene of Maverick movie even started. Not being American but growing up heavily influenced by that culture this movie took me out of today's 100% everything industry era and placing me in some different long forgotten life, the human 80s where everything seems like another planet. The Top Gun theme is a masterpiece and this summer brought 80s back in such a classy way along with Stranger things season 4 and now Top Gun Maverick that it was a joy to be back. Hope they keep up making movies and shows inspired by the 80s deep well vibe as it works like a charm. It brings a touch of soul that's missing in today's industry. Personally the 80s atmosphere America's for me is really best or true version of America there is. Love it. Miss it. Tom Cruise has such a hartfull, strong and charismatic appearance. He marked the lives of billions trouought his long career and he's still doing it especially in Top Guns Maverick without any signs of slowing down. Respect to the floor. He's the GOAT in what he does. Val Kilmer is a true legend and he got the recognition he deserves that got many emotional. Miles Teller really thumbs up, Glenn Powell, Jennifer Connelly and others also for such a good job. Musical score is strong, powerful and acts as a wingman of the movie. The action, direction and visuals are insane. All off it so impressive but bottom line Tom Cruise and Top Gun theme are so another level the move should be named Tom Cruise's Top Gun Maverick.
Yellowstone (2018)
Yellowstone world of cowboys
Dutton's ranch is a place of beauty and fire coexisting together under one family that doesn't carry common surname. I loved that world as it took me every evening somewhere long forgotten. It took me just a little bit of more than a month to finish all seasons. The nature, horses, country songs and morning coffee moments is something most people would like to have in their daily life. In these times of superhero over-inflation Taylor Sheridan's and Kevin Costner's Yellowstone puts the cowboy character right into the spotlight and it comes as a remedy. There're shows haters and they're just doing what their nature is doesn't matter the reasons. Yellowstone isn't supposed to be a perfect show. It's not supposed to be all realistic and detailed. This is old school at it's best. And did I miss it. There are principles and values that went on trough generations and generations and survived the burden of time. That's exactly what makes them valuable. It's not just in western culture. It's everywhere where tradition, hard work and honor resides. And Yellowstone makes it all about that and nothing else. Protection is in protection so is the way of John Dutton. Kevin Costner is one of my childhood heros. I'm so happy to watch him again in the same strong character role as if nothing changed with time. His biggest rival cheff Thomas Rainwater is someone very similar to John Dutton but on the other side. Troughout the show I was rooting that they come together, bury the hatchet and find a common goal to their real enemies, gready corporate villains. Neither of them is interested in the money. Just to preserve or reverse time as it is/was. It's easy to get into characters, all of them not just the Dutton's. The ranch is there to be maintained by performing everyday heavy duties from dwan till dusk and to defend it by any means from anyone who endangers it. And just because of the sheer size it's caught the eyes of many. Taylor Sheridan thank you that your great talent open up to us widely because I know how much I'm looking forward to enjoy the new episodes, vibe, code, music and characters of Yellowstone ranch.
1883 (2021)
Race ya.
I remember enjoying Karl May's books about Winnetou and Old Shatterhand as a child. It's somwhere then that I read Karl May never saw most of the places he described in his books in so much details you felt like you were there. And he sold 200 million books world wide. That's how good writer he was. After getting immersed in Yellowstone episodes I got to know that 1883 series was a prequel about Dutton family and how they came to Montana. The show is obviously different from Yellowstone, not only because of the different eras they cover but also the style. And that's what I found fantastic. The slow times from the 19th century are in my opinion perfectly summoned in 1883. The everyday life, dreams and goals of people back then, the challenges and solutions they face. All of these details were portrayed in such a way it took me back to the world of Karl May's books. The 1883. Story is extraordinary. Seemingly simple but don't let slow development trick you. If any of us were living back then we would be stressed out to say the least with minimum survival chance. Sam Elliott is a western genre hero and cowboy synonym. He never disappoints and his strong screen appearance here makes every scene enjoyable and real. First time I see Tim McGraw as an actor and boy did he deliver. Totally convincing part of a Dutton ancestor fighting by any means for his family. Had so much respect for him throughout the show and felt everything he went through. It's really hard to decide which one is better Sam or Tim and their screentime together made some of the best moments of the show. But the real spotlight stealer is young Isabel May as Elsa Dutton. Her energy, courage, strong will power to embrace life frontal and fully made this show so successful. Fantastic. I read here some people complaining about ususal criticism of slow burn or boring show. But if you really open up to the time this show portraits just immerse yourself in the wise words of thout flow narrative from Elsa Dutton. Reminding me of The Thin Red Line from Terrence Malick I felt like watching Karl May world in on-screen action. Very deep, connecting and makes a perfect circle of how the Duttons came to be in Yellowstone. Show creator Taylor Sheridan's writing is so unbelievable that I can't think of anyone fitting the same category brining this exciting world of western time span to our homes. Hats off to all of them. Expecially Isabel May. Having a daughter I would love to see her take on life fully and bravely as Elsa Dutton did. Looking forward for future projects from this incredible team announcing additional episodes of 1883, seaquel series 1932 and of course Yellowstone. Perfectly done. Period.
Outer Range (2022)
Key ingredients: atmospheric, western, Josh Brolin and a great start.
Only first episode in and I'm reading the reviews saying that it's too slow. It seems there is a quit a few people often complaining about shows or movies today that have slow burn. What would they call all the masterpieces from 50 or more years ago? Movies used to be the 7th art but for some time now it's entertainment purpose only. Big expensive packages empty inside. And that's ok of it's not too much of it. And today it's basically all you get from the mainstream. But if you leave out the art and content as quality parts you'll be left with 90% dull repeatable CGI action scenes or more and more popular explicit and shocking violence. So when something different arrives and has a developing story for example, there are low raitngs with complaints about the slow paste and boring product. I'm not sure where this show goes but in the flood of non stop, nothing but action superhero movies the western atmosphere comes as an antidote. A natural flow that brings back balance. Josh Brolin stands out as usual and probably will carry this show completely although the others are pretty good too. The mix of SF atmosphere and mistery looks promising. Tough I would love to see more of western genre coming back to the audience and definitely more of Josh Brolin. Expecially in westerns. Hard to write anything constructive after just one episode but I hope I'm right with this one.
The Last Duel (2021)
Along side Dune one of the best movies of 2021
Script again successfuly written by Affleck and Damon. Directed flawlessly by unstoppable and tireless Scott. Created with much care, no wonder Ridley Scott was disappointed with low cinema outcome because they really brought an insight of how the mentallity of that age was about. The men, warriors, nobelman, woman, roles, honnor, power, justice.. everything was given within the limited borders of the 14th century society norms, for us today unimaginable. The midevial atmosphere pulls you in completely and it's not hygge over there. Everything was acted on a top level. More than happy to see movies that bring real value on the table. Who doesn't watch this...his/her loss.
Dune (2021)
A masterpiece
Beautiful in every way. I've read the first book that this movie is about and understand very well that it ends just like Lord of the rings part one or two, in the middle of the story. It would be a mistake not to because there's so many details that needs to be shown in the movie setup. And what a treat this was. The atmosphere. The slow burning pace that takes you deep into this world. The music. Perfect images. Adaptation of the book is top. You don't have many movies like this. Not today at least. It's not about explicit violence because there is no. It's about honor, justice, friendship, discipline, respect and doing what needs to be done to survive. Cast is perfect. Director probably one of rare ones that could deliver it on the highest level. And that he did. A beautiful peace of art. Can't wait for Dune part two.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
What happened to movies?
This kind of movies were supposed to be fun where they take your mind away and immerse you into some other world so you unwind and relax in the evening. I love and enjoy all kinds of movies, from mainstream, independent, to low budget and trash films just that they perform the function of the first sentence. This was supposed to be action comedy, packed with famous faces and a great director but turned out to be uninventive trash big budget movie with forced stupid jokes and way too graphic violence. So dumb and violent that it's unwatchable. Who did you make this for? How low do you see your audience? This sets a bar high. I never gave a one star or wrote here a bad review but this movie deserves it and if it continues to be a trend where raw graphic violence is a merit for quality that tells us all about what audience we've all become. To compare to all the great action comedy movies done in the past this is a low point.
Retfærdighedens ryttere (2020)
Reminded me on In Bruges..
..and there's not many movies that can do that. Starting from absolutely fantastic Mads Mikkelsen who is one of the finest if not the best actor today. Magnetic presence and doesn't matter what kind of character he plays you simply get engaged and connected to him. Second the main cast is so well picked, complimenting eachother and then contrasting Mads character, such chemistry. Then the story, don't want to say much but it pretty much worked out for me in a more than satisfiying way. Overall original and simple story line with twists that are so not expected, again a big plus for the movie. Then the jokes. It's not a comedy that's supposed to make you laugh crying out loud. Insted it's smart comedy that makes you simply enjoy the whole show this little simpatic and clumsy team creates for us. The warm drama created is something I saw as movie hygge but that's just me not being Danish. Lastly when I was half way through I thought how it would be great if they can continue to make them more on the same level like this one, because at the end of the movie all I could think was that I want more. Great job and bravo Denmark cinematography.
Ginny & Georgia (2021)
Such a joy to watch
Really enjoying every episode. The ratings don't do justice. It's definitely higher quality, so relaxing yet engaging and I gave a ten to support it. Great writing, energy and it covers a lot of things/topics. The little guy, Austin's my favourite, such a cool sweet boy but all characters are really great. Takes you back to those confusing/best days of your life. I'm sure we'll see more.
Moxie (2021)
So much emotion..
Bering a father to a little baby girl I want to believe one day she's going to be all that she can be and not be a part of a world I grew up in where women were just leveled to body parts and second place feeling behind us men. Gender doesn't matter in life, it shouldn't. Race doesn't matter. Nationality doesn't matter. Religion doesn't matter. Only we matter. Humans. If we do it right the whole Planet will prosper, children, animals, plants, nature.... everything. Just have emphaty. Just have understanding. And help and respect each other. Tomorrow our children will follow. This is why it doesn't matter how cliche this movie is made, or the introvert details or the bad writing.. what matters is the message it carries. Those who think otherwise I'm sorry but you never had to walk the shoes of many around you who suffer every day and you can't understand something fully if you didn't experience it. That's why emphaty and understanding is so so important it's a game changer. And that's why I give this move a 10. Apart from that the movie is really good all throughout with a great lead cast and great soundtrack. I really enjoyed it. It has important message and it presses the right buttons. So disregard the rating it's better than the numbers show and I hope more like this comes.
Capharnaüm (2018)
Perfection.
No words can explain the emotions after seeing this masterpiece. It's perfect. Hope as many people possible sees this movie.
The Last Dance (2020)
Nothing more than perfection!
A perfect team, perfect organisation and perfect documentary! I was reading some of the media texts that came out between the episodes that were trying to be sensational or finding something bad about Michael Jordan and it's silly really almost insulting to the audience to analyse the same thing you're watching and make exaggerating titles or conclusions nothing to do with seen on the show. Michael was an ultimate old school warrior in sport arena and a great person outside it and because of his energy, strong will power and just being Michael Jordan he was and will be the greatest sportsmen ever. A living legend! The storytelling is superb as it pulls you in from start so much...pure joy. As a result you can see the way he did things still makes those around him not only proud but blessed that they were the lucky ones to actually do it with him. Total respect! Hats down! A must see!
