After Life (2019–2022)
2/10
Enjoyed Series 1 & 2 but not 3.
5 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I very much enjoyed series 1 and 2 of After life. About a man driven to feeling suicidal after the death of his wife so he had nothing left to lose, but then there were glimmers of hope for the future.

The supporting cast were also amazing and funny.

I signed back up to Netflix to see series 3 but was disappointed, as it was a bit depressing. More a mouthpiece for Ricky's atheist views.

Although I enjoyed the funny dating scenes for Diane Morgan's character, and the aspect of how dogs can bring joy to our lives.

Maybe it should have finished at series 2, with the hope of him being with the lovely nurse who looked after his father, as that would make me feel happy, but then maybe it's better for the nurse to be with another man who wasn't constantly moping for his deceased wife.

Most corny movie I've seen.
4 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't watch 50 Shades of Grey at first, because I thought all the corny newspaper articles about how the film rejuvenated many middle aged couples sex lives were sad. Then forced myself to watch more to see if it's as good as the hype, but had to turn it off at how corny it was when he picked her up in the helicopter. Then tonight tried to force myself to watch more, and still don't understand why there was so much hype about it, as getting more corny as it goes on. Maybe some perverts enjoy watching the nipples of Melanie Griffith daughter, and her being used by a weirdo, who said going out to dinner and movies isn't really his thing. I don't think the Jamie is as good looking as many rave about him.

Killing Eve (2018–2022)

Reminds me of The Day of the Jackal 1973 movie.
2 October 2021
It has elements of The Day of the Jackal from 1973, to me. Think it's the European sophistication, and where she travels around Europe changing identity. I love that, as Jackal is one of my favourite films.

I could imagine it might get those men angry about how only white males are portrayed as bad things nowadays, as females of many races seem to have all the good parts in it. Although I also realise many men encourage and don't feel threatened by women being powerful.

As a woman myself, who has had to be strong from a difficult life of being abandoned as a child, and been in dangerous situations with men from being vulnerable and just trying to survive, I do wonder if a woman could really overpower all those men, as some men twice her size seem to just sit back and let her kill them, instead of fighting back.

Toby Jones is good. Although not sure what it has to do with Brexit.
15 February 2021
It's a very enjoyable comedy. I've never seen anything with Toby Jones that I didn't enjoy. I warmed to most of the characters. Although I'm unsure why the description talks about Brexit. It's making people think leaving the EU has anything to do with non EU immigration or asylum seekers that we're in the mess we're in now.

I felt there's a glimmer of hope in a sea of dumbed down masses.
9 February 2021
I often felt sad for being English, as felt like I was surrounded by dumbed down morons who would do things such as call people lefties as an insult, when they're often men who don't pay for the children they have with the partner they're no longer with, live in social housing, are sometimes on welfare and cheer on the NHS, not realising the NHS is a leftie idea. Because they got their political theories from Americans online, who think left or right is just cultural. Or people who fall for politicians like Farage because he says something nationalist, despite the reality being that he paid his foreign wife on tax payers expenses and hides money in foreign tax havens, and only wants to leave the EU as wants to keep the British economy closely linked with USA banks encouraging greed and debt, so the economy crashes every few years when many can't pay back the debts they're encouraged to live on. It made me think there might be a glimmer of hope that some people recognise that a politician putting on a clown act can hide their evil intentions, and some people look more closely into the nonsense politicians spout.

Worst comedy to get a 2nd series
4 October 2020
I usually love anything Brenda Blethyn is in, but I'm a few episodes in and haven't laughed yet. Now I've heard it has a second series I'm a bit angry, as a much better comedy called Warren with Martin Clunes which had me bursting our laughing many times wasn't given a second series. Maybe as that was on another channel and they're more fussy. It's almost as if it cared more about giving some kind of social message about asylum seekers, than bothering with a funny storyline.

I was giggling
13 October 2018
Saw Johnny English Strikes Again. Was silly so made me laugh. Some was corny and I liked that, as seemed as if wasn't trying too hard. Especially with his silly attempts to attract the Russian spy. Nice scenery in London, south of France and Scotland. Emma Thompson as Prime Minister. Baddie was an American cyber criminal. Russian spy joined together with Britain against him. Russian spy is same actress as in a real James Bond film.

A Quiet Place (2018)

Emotionally suspense
4 October 2018
It wasn't scary in the way that stops me sleeping at night, but was thrilling in the way it kept me on the edge of my seat, as was quite emotionally suspense in an eerie world. I had a roller coaster of emotions. I gave it 9 instead of 10 because the time felt as it went quite fast and I wished it had gone on longer. Had me thinking how what might seem obvious in normal life, such as shooting the creatures, would have to be a last option as the noise would attract more. I felt as if this didn't follow the usual Hollywood movie plot, and would probably be more enjoyed by a mature audience, than teenagers more into action movies. It had a low budget which isn't a bad thing, as gave me a feeling I get from independent film makers than Hollywood. I think people who are too critical of this film maybe aren't getting the good points. Talented child actors and good chemistry between John and Emily. Made me think about if we were invaded by aliens then we would need different ways to attack than we might first try.

Brilliant Viking parody
3 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is brilliant and hilarious. I won't be able to watch Vikings in the same way again. A viking parody made by Norway with actors who speak English (scenes are shot in Norwegian and English), but also with its own unique story lines and likable characters. Part I'm on now has an English Christian monk who helps sick children, helps at animal shelter, fund raises as well as wanting to make the world a better place for others. Then you see the vikings in their boat who have spotted land

Made me think and funny
29 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
One of the best films I have seen for a while, and I still keep thinking of it days after. Sad and also funny. Makes you think how you judge people. My friend complained it didn't have an outcome at the end, but I don't think it was like a straightforward Hollywood film, as the events changed his life. I joked to my friend that maybe there should be a sequel, to see how he enjoyed his Egypt holiday, are Icelanders like us British when we go to the Mediterranean where you go red on first few days and then skin peels off rest of week. Was his girlfriend sectioned or if not, was she happy in her shop. Did he get the image of his mother's boyfriend in the kitchen out of his head.

After watching first episode, I sat up all night watching whole series
16 November 2017
I had big expectations with such good actors. Real actors from European theatre, TV and films. Sir Michael John Gambon, Christopher Eccleston from Dr Who. Sofie Gråbøl was very good as the governor. Richard Dormer from Game of Thromes played the main police officer well, with Stanley Tucci as the newcomer officer from London. I wasn't disappointed. Reason I watched was because I was getting into watching Icelandic cinema online, and then this came up because it was filmed in Iceland, even though it was British made. The community seemed to be based on Svalbard, island off Norway, and I've always been fascinated what it must be like to live in such a remote location. I thought it was quite an original intriguing story line and cared about the characters. I had to watch whole series in one night, as needed to know what would happen next. Then in-between all the murder and mystery, there was the amusing couple of the uptight Scandinavian teacher, with his fat homely British girlfriend who he enjoyed feeding
