The Eyes of My Mother (2016)
Horrible
Very depressing, I only watched the first 15 minutes before turning it off. Great if you like morose films.
American Poltergeist (2015)
Beyond cheesy!
Between the college girls dressed like hookers to the nonsensical plot , I still kept watching hoping it would get better. This movie rips off Scream, The Ring, Friday the 13th among others. Where is the Poltergeist in this movie? What's up with the creepy cop? College kids doing an exorcism? Let's get the Catholic kid to do it! The acting is the worst I have seen in any movie.
Perdidos (2014)
Good found footage
There was similarities to Blair Witch and the same sense of isolation and feeling of entrapment. Just read the subtitles on this or it's hard to know what was going on. Acting was pretty good. I disagree that there was no story, you just had to watch closely to follow it. The first 30 minutes go into more detail, and the creepy caretaker guy was definately hiding something. I like found footage generally and this was entertaining.
Shut In (2016)
Not good
Good cast, silly movie. Started out OK, but went downhill fast. I watched this for Naomi Watts but this script was way below her talent. This plot has huge holes. How does a kid pretend to be in a catatonic state for 6 months without anybody noticing? Does he not have physical therapists or doctors come by? Ridiculous.
Paranormal Activity 2 (2010)
Not my favorite in the franchise
I think this movie tries hard but besides the few scenes with Katie, it doesn't have much scare factor. Is this a sequel or prequel? I liked the 1st one and I don't think this tries to be a copy of that. It's just pretty tame for most horror fans. Not awful but not good either. I am partial to Part 3.
Devoured (2012)
Worth a look!
I will never understand how someone can rate this a 1, unless you have the attention span of a flea. I liked the main character, she was sad and vulnerable and I thought the acting was pretty good. It isn't straight horror, more like part ghost story, part thriller. It kept my attention throughout. It's not the happiest movie, quite depressing actually but well made.
Requiem (2018)
Keeps you guessing!
I binged watched this, I liked it so much. I got a little frustrated with the slower pace at first but I think it was necessary. It's not for the easily bored. Great acting all around and I liked the gothic/supernatural alement. The ending was O.K, you can interpret it any way you like. I hope there will be a second series!
The Rachel Divide (2018)
Very confused woman!
I had a hard time getting through this documentary. Usually I can find ways to find something likable about a main character but try as I might, I couldn't come up with any likability for this woman. She seems very cold and detached. I felt bad she had such a horrible childhood, which is why she identifies with being black, although I'm still unsure about that. I am not black, but if I were, I would resent her lies. She cannot know how a black person experiences discrimination or have a sense of an ancestry. As far as black being a social construct, I have never heard of anything so stupid. Just my opinion. I think she needs therapy to try to heal herself, instead of passing herself off as something she is not.
Nails (2017)
Kind of scary but confusing
This movie had some scary parts but all throughout it I was wondering why Nails was targeting this woman. It was explained close to the end. Without giving anything away, the premise was kind of thin. It did have a claustrophobic element to many scenes which I liked. Not the best horror I've seen, but not the worst.
