Early Edition (1996–2000)
10/10
Amazing
5 July 2008
I just started watching this after 10 years gone by. I had originally only seen a single episode of Early Edition.

The idea is not exactly an original idea but I believe the writing and production quality of each episode is great. The episodes continue to some canon; so you find later episodes referring to previous episodes, rather than independently written episodes.

You'll spot a lot of 'to be famous' faces in there and I do wonder what ever happened to Chuck and Gary as they were great actors.

As with many TV series of the 90s this is an honest and heartwarming series with much stimulation of your own thoughts and experiences, leading you to realise that hindsight is often just as powerful as foresight.

10/10 as this is one of the best series I have seen in a long time, even in 2008.

JPod (2008– )

Not bad but not that accurate
20 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure how accurate the book was on the industry, this series developed to be more about people than it was about games programming. Most people in the computer industry and gamers know that games are render real-time and all you ever really see them doing is creating cinematic scenes and rendering them. There is never any development of the interface or any demonstration of any control methods.

These poorly researched facts just let the series down, they could have picked anything and they chose games programming. They could chosen jpod to have been the pre-rendered cinematic scene department of a larger division and I would not have criticised the series at all on it's realism.

The characters however were great, there is some really good acting going on; I think this would have made a second season if they had done their research.

The X Files (1998)

Overall a good film lacking some potential

Warning: Spoilers
I'll first start with a quick reply to this comment:

Quote: The Zzzz-files?, 7 January 2006 5/10 Author: bob_bear from Germany

Considering the amount of money that was obviously invested in this project wouldn't you think that they could have bothered to come up with a decent script? Think again!

There are more plot holes in this outing than I care to number but here's a couple:

1. Why did the Arctic facility implode when Scully got injected with the serum? No reason that I can tell other than they had to draw this hokum to a close somehow.

And 2. How did the pair get out of the Arctic alive? Scully had wet socks on so they hardly walked it - and where did her trousers come from anyway?! Moreover, nobody knew they were there so what chance of being found before they froze to death?

---

With regards to point 1, the facility imploded because the UFO had started it's 'anti-gravity' drive. Hence the ship taking off a few minutes later. With regards to point 2, the FBI most likely have international cellular communications. Not sure how many mobile transmitters there are in the arctic, and although I see your point, it's not a big enough hole to worry about. Such a crater or land implosion would have notified a local meteorological site on their seismic detectors. I'm pretty sure someone would check it out pretty quickly on a satellite feed.

Now onto my views, I thought it was a very good film as far as X-Files is concerned. It takes a while to get into it, but hits the whole theme of 'V' with the secret infiltration and colonisation of the planet earth. I love this idea, even if it is removed as it could be happening right now and we would never know it! The special effects are pretty good for the time this was created, there are a few issues in plot such as, when Mulder escapes from the UFO out of a hatch, an alien almost catches him but gets hit by a blast of 'steam'. Another blast of what appears to be 'steam' follows soon after, however during the few minutes they were in the pipe they were lucky enough to avoid such an event.

Overall this is an enjoyable film for those who love to think that this world has more than meets the eye. This is television from a 'free' era of society which does not contain any particularly biased political influence or propaganda. 7 / 10 for it's decent acting, decent budget and effects. However this film could have done with being a bit more complex. The average x-files viewer would feel there is nothing new to learn from this, the series had put the same idea into peoples heads some time ago.

Weakest Link: Star Trek Edition (2001)
Season 2, Episode 13

Enlightening
14 January 2007
I was a bit disappointed by the mix of people, personally I thought having Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) may have raised the intellect level somewhat. Maybe this would make the questions too easy for one person, because to be honest, I got all of the questions correct and I'm not even American.

If anything to me this proved how ignorant some people can be; It was disappointing that a blank was drawn at the Canadian National Anthem. Especially as this is a neighbouring country!

Worf (Michael Dorn) would have been a great addition to the group, with his deep Worf-like voice and his chirpy spirit, it would have made it a very fun show. Rather than the appalling performance of Wes Crusher (Wil Wheaton) which somewhat proved him to be nothing like his TV counterpart; you'd think you'd at least try to meet your fans expectations.

I am not sure whether this show was also a ploy to lift some of the heat off the Star Trek cast by showing them to be normal dumb average people who just got lucky, or whether they had to pick a cast that would meet the average intellect of the viewers (or previous episodes).

Data (Brent Spiner) was sorely missed, and I'm sure he would have also raised the intellect level, because he's a very bright guy in reality.

William Shatner's (Kirk) performance was comical, but lacking any real depth. In reply to the question "Which roman numeral represents the number 100?" he replied "X" which most of the kids at kindergarten will tell you is wrong!

You don't have to be bright to be in show business, and this show proves just that!

Clerks II (2006)
1/10
Same old thing
30 August 2006
This film may not appeal to the audience for its 'fart-joke' style humour. The story has very little creativity and the jokes are very mediocre. Their was apparent reliance on the female body to boost interest (i guess in the trailer somewhere). Maybe this is not a film aimed at adults, I remember Clerks being funnier and less immature, although I was a teenager back then.

Only reason this film gets a score of 1/10 is because I can't rate it 0/10; it feels like I've just wasted 1 hour 30 minutes of my life. If you haven't seen any of the other films then you might crack a laugh, else you might end up feeling that they don't appear to have made much effort on bringing some new ideas to the big screen.

Inspiring
13 November 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I have rated this film 8/10 because I enjoyed it. Reading some of the dreadful comments on here about a movie makes me think that some people really did misunderstand its intention.

If you make a film that is too hard hitting and intelligent, you go way over the majority of viewer's heads. Not everyone understands the way the world works and the way our climate system is affected by our presence on this planet.

The special effects are awesome, thats a big part of this film and yes it is lacking in story... but what do you expect? What would you prefer to happen, the world freeze and everyone die? People need hope and ideas of change to inspire them to actually do something. This world one day will eventually feel the wrath of mother nature; We've seen a lot of it in the past year with crazy weather.

I think one of the bigger points in this film is situated at the end, where one of the astronauts says 'Hey look at that, i've never seen the air so clear' - a sign that the planet is just performing a natural clean up process and might eventually return to a 'normal' state.

If you look at the Planet Mars, there is a large amount of carbon dioxide present in the ice caps. Sure, this could be simply due to a different composition of the atmosphere and of the planet itself, or it could be pointing at the fact you would essentially 'store' a lot of the gases within the ice caps itself.

By all means I am no scientist, but from what that last bit said, it was my interpretation.

All in all, it was very entertaining if you aren't looking to be a critic and rip the film apart. The end of the day, its not a great deal of money to watch a film, and I have paid to see a lot worse!
