Virgin River (2019)
Boring
How on earth does this have a 7.5 rating??? I tried to like it because it had been recommended to me by a number of people so pushed through the whole of season 1 (painfully)! The only good thing about Virgin River is the scenery and the main actress (Mel)! The characters are excruciating to watch - they're depressed and boring...whilst some are downright irritating (Hope ughhh) and the storyline is slow, weak and predictable! How people find this entertaining is beyond me!
Soul (2020)
Excellent animation
What a lovely, relatable animation...you'll laugh and cry in equal doses! Perfect movie and message for the times in which we're living - watch it!
Death to 2020 (2020)
Laughing through the madness
I personally found this to be hilarious...if we can't laugh through the madness that is our life at the moment - then what can we do?!? It was so well put together, with a stellar-cast, lots of relatable moments (or...yes, I know someone like that) and many, many laugh-out-loud moments. Just the thing I needed to watch to end of the crazy year that was 2020!
Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019)
Surprising
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this! I had thought it would be purely something for children but I randomly put it on in the background while I was wrapping Christmas presents and actually found myself watching it. Solid acting, solid storyline - just a lovely feel-good movie.
Schitt$ Creek (2015)
Schitt's Creek is exactly what the world needs right now
This is easily one of my favourite tv shows of all time! I've just binge-watched the entire series! It's funny, heartwarming, deep...the perfect mix of everything that is life. I just can't get enough of it! It is a story about family, love, acceptance and embracing diversity...and can I just say that David's story is one of the most profound and beautiful love stories (not saying more on that as I don't want to give anything away ;-))! Watch it...please - it's what the world needs right now!
Holidate (2020)
Sweet romcom
I actually enjoyed this movie! Not outstanding or memorable but also not bad....just easy light-hearted watching. Just whale we need to end of 2020. (I also love Emma Roberts - she's so underrated...she a fab actress!). Worth a watch.
Christmas Wonderland (2018)
Boring
I can't understand how people rated this film highly - maybe my expectations of entertainment are too high but this must be one of the most boring Christmas movies I've seen! Christmas movies are meant to be cheesy and are rarely going to be chart toppers - one expects that but this movie had no original storyline, characters lacked depth or any personality whatsoever, and I noticed how it lacked music or christmassy background soundtracks. What can I say - it was just so, so boring...don't waste your time....unless you're looking for something to put on in the background while you snooze on the sofa ;-)
The Holiday (2006)
All time favorite
Not much not to like about this film! I watch it every year and love it every time! Great cast and has all the feels.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Chess has never been this interesting!
I binge watched this entire series in a day...it was so, so good! Anya Taylor-Joy's performance was outstanding (as were the rest of the cast), the story line and characters were intriguing and it captured the 1960's era perfectly! It's hard to imagine that a series about chess would be this good but there's nothing I can fault - one of my favourite series of the year!
Little Fires Everywhere (2020)
Compelling
I really enjoyed this show - very compelling, addresses multiple difficult topics, mostly great acting and some plot twists along the way! I binge watched the whole thing in a week with ease and was sad when it came to an end. The only thing I really didn't like was Kerry Washington's acting - I have to agree with other reviews...I found her facial expressions so annoying that I struggled to watch scenes with her! Other than that though - definitely worth watching!
Don't F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer (2019)
Riveting
First off...just a word or warning - this documentary is super disturbing and not for sensitive viewers, but OMG is it riveting! If you are like me, and are fascinated by the mind of a serial killer you will not be able to stop watching this! Incredibly well made documentary and a highly recommended watch! Just be warned that you will be thinking about it for days!
Christmas Break-In (2018)
Pretty much Home Alone
I've seen worse Christmas movies and the acting in this one wasn't too bad! Fun, feel good Christmas movie BUT so unbelievably unoriginal. It's basically a Home Alone remake with some tweaks! Home Alone is a Christmas classic...crazy to use the same storyline!
The Society (2019)
Don't discredit this show on the first couple of episodes
As others have said, initially I wasn't sure about this show...but I pushed through and boy am I glad I did! It really drew me in as the characters and story line developed. I'm intrigued and need more! We NEED a second season!!!
13 Reasons Why (2017)
Hard-hitting, poignant and real - brilliant series
I ventured to watch this series with a certain amount of trepidation given the negative publicity! But boy am I glad that I ignored the negative reviews and watched for myself! Yes - there were some parts that were hard to stomach, yes I agree that this is not the type of series to binge-watch as it could trigger depression, and yes, I agree that the age restriction of 18 is right...but let's face it - there are many shows out there today that are vulgar and disturbing - but they're vulgar and totally meaningless (and sometimes even portrayed as comedic to hide how disturbing their messages really are)! This show at least has a very strong message behind it! And...it's not hiding behind anything! It's real, hard-hitting and at times shocking! People have voiced offence to the rape scenes - yet there are many shows that graphically show sex which could be deemed as rape (it's just not called out as such)! Some very relevant topics are addressed - The negative effects of bullying, rape and the destruction that suicide leaves in its wake and the impact it has on those left behind (just to name a few)! I highly recommend this series. Please just watch with caution if you are suffering from depression yourself!
