The Dentist (1996)
The source of my dentalphibia
I was lucky enough to see this movie shortly after it came out. I was 10 or 11 years old and it absolutely ruined me haha. I'm watching it again now at 35 and I find it more comical than anything else, but the damage has already been done. I've feared dentists ever since and my teeth have paid for it haha. Good horror movie and the stuff of nightmares!
Gisaengchung (2019)
Blown away!
I stumbled upon this on IMDB and just had to watch it and I'm glad I did. I thoroughly enjoyed this film! Everything about it was great, I was blown away! I am like many Americans that tend to avoid movies that are not in English. I feel like I'm missing visual aspects of the performance, and miss out on relevant inflections and nuances in speech patterns because I can't connect the words being spoken with the meaning of the words.
With such good reviews I said screw it! No more will I limit myself to just American cinema and it paid off. Now I have a bunch of foreign films lined up to watch. I highly recommend seeing this, and if your like me with the subtitles just give it chance you wont regret this one.
Aladdin (2019)
I don't know...
First I'll say I loved the original, I grew up on it. I knew going in that it'd be impossible to live up to the original. However, I didn't think it'd be this bad! I will give credit where it's due though. Will Smith had an impossible task and wasn't terrible. Jafar was a wreck, just terrible casting. Not nearly as sinister as he should have been, he just doesn't fit the character one bit. This felt like a Bollywood movie. They're supposed to be Arabic with Arabian influences. It's more Indian than anything.
I dunno, I just wasn't feeling it. I frequently re-watch movies and have seen the original a dozen times. This is one and done. It's worth a watch to say you've seen it and talk about it. If this was an original movie it probably would have bombed.
Another Life (2019)
Millennial Garbage
I was looking forward to this show being a huge sci-fi fan. Boy, what a let down and I'm easy to please. The crew, oh the crew! So bad! They are childish and irrational, not anyone who you'd want to save the world let alone be a flippin "astronaut". It's infuriating to watch. It's like they went into a frat house and were like, you, you, you and you. Get in, losers, we're going to space! Katee Sackhoff is the only one to hold their own.
Oh and the "Doctor" is a dude dressed in drag that says "I don't know what to do" when someone needs medical attention. What?! Alright...
The CGI is you know, there. Not great, not terrible.
Watched 2 episodes, I don't recommend it.
Deep Murder (2019)
Surprisingly Funny
I had zero expectations going into this movie. It's so dumb although I haven't laughed this hard in a while. It's not a masterpiece by any means but destined to be a cult classic. Pretty good bad acting and Christopher McDonald is great as usual.
If you don't take life seriously you'll probably enjoy this movie.
Enter the Void (2009)
Extremely Boring Movie
If someone needed to get information out of me, all they would have to do is tie me down and make me watch this movie. I would give it up immediately or beg for death.
Mr. Robot (2015)
Must Watch!
Absolutely riveting! I stumbled upon this show by chance from the title since I program robots. Although having nothing to do with robots it's still relevant to my interests! The show had me hooked within the first 5 minutes. I'm a huge fan of narration and believe when done correctly is gold! It just creates a deeper connection with the character. A Clockwork Orange, Fight Club, American Beauty to name a few.
Rami Malek playing the socially awkward Elliot Alderson is perfection. They couldn't have picked a better actor and it's nice to see Christian Slater on screen. I'm just finishing up season 1 and the twists, THE TWISTS!!!! I'm not a great reviewer... It's amazing and creative. The writing is phenomenal, just watch it so it stays on the air haha!
Oh, the filming is quite peculiar! Their faces are nearly always on the edge of the frame with strange angles. I've never seen anything like it and noticed it immediately. There's almost an emptiness being cultivated that intensifies Elliot's screwed up world. It's like everyone he interacts with is not there. An extreme sense of loneliness, which I happen to be all too familiar with. Great writing, directing and acting. I hope the seasons are plentiful!
