Corsage (2022)
As close as it gets
I have been a so-called "Sissi-enthusiast" for as long as I can remember. Every movie or series based on her life are a surprise and something to really look forward to me.
This being said, I have to highlight the fact that this one movie is closest to the Sissi one can read about. She was eccentric, she was ahead of her time (which has gracefully been depicted through some very modern gestures, that gave the movie and the character some colour, but didn't look too absurd or too modern) and she was indeed a bird locked in a golden cage.
My Sissi is complex, my Sissi can be Romy Schneider at times, but she definitely is Vicky Krieps as well. I can only think of this movie as a compliment to her and to what she has endured during her life. Her faith has been decided by so many others, while she kept fighting to regain as much control as possible in her situation.
This is definitely a film worth watching, because it was not produced with the sole aim to please the audience, but it manages to tell a story, a story based on a real person.
Bravo!
Pretty Little Liars (2010)
Loved it, up to a point
I really used to love this show. I have been watching it for 6 years. All I can honestly say is that the first 3-4 years were totally worth my attention. After that it kept getting worse. Most of my friends gave up on the show sometime ago, but I stayed, I kept watching. I hoped for a phenomenal ending, for a wicked and clever twist in the end. But, no, that never happened. The ending was a disaster and it seemed that they simply had NO idea how to end this, so they just invented a character that somehow they managed to prove existed in the last 5 episodes. I read so many good fan theories about the finale and fell in love with some of them and when I finally got to watch the real one, I was really disappointed. What I also disliked about the finale was the desperate wish to have all the original couples back together. They simply said "let's have all of them together, but let's not make it obvious." And that's what they did by not really having Spoby together, not letting Ezria have children and by letting Haleb fight. I had high hopes for this show, but it completely let me down. The last season and especially the last episode let me down. Sorry, but the final reveal wasn't a shock for anyone. The only character that managed to keep the original grace and magic was good old Mona. Thank you, Mona! Also, too many useless characters that nobody remembers were added to the story line. And in the end, none of them made any sense. One last thought I'd like to add: this show was always afraid of killing off important characters. This is sometimes good for the fan's sake IF and ONLY IF it is not done too often. PLL was famous for killing and then resurrecting characters. Sometimes it was unbelievable, sometimes useless. I will always appreciate a show that can get rid of crucial characters with grace. This one was not the case. I really hoped to be able to have a better opinion on this show, but sadly I didn't have the chance.
You Me Her (2016)
Bad
This show is so bad. The interaction and chemistry between the characters is forced and the characters themselves are weak. I don't find the relationship between them sexy at all. It's just awkward, an awkward and unreal story that I think could never happen. It is actually really annoying how unnatural the behavior of the three is. And I can't even understand why they find Izzy attractive, or why she finds them sexy. I didn't actually hope that the show would get better and it really didn't.
