The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
This is not Tolkien
We're only two episodes in but that's enough for me. This is not Tolkien. Galadriel is not only nothing like how Tolkien described her but the character is unlikable in the extreme. The CGI is good but the writing and acting are both very bad and the first episode was mostly exposition. If Amazon call this something other than Lord of The Rings and added a comment in the intro "inspired by Tolkien" then it wouldn't be so bad. This could have been a mediocre fantasy series but they didn't. I can't help but wonder if anyone in the cast and crew has read anything by Tolkien. While the CGI was good the actual physical props and costumes looked amateurish. It has the look and feel of fan fiction but this is not respecting of Tolkien so it can't be fan fiction. Previous adaptions weren't always great but they respected Tolkien so we forgave them much. This work doesn't respect Tolkien and so it's hard to give them any understanding for their shortcomings. I'm can only speak for myself but as a Tolkien fan can't understand why Amazon would purchase such a wonderful work and then go out of their way to disrespect it. I am truly mystified by this.
Ms. Marvel (2022)
another Disney political statement
There was a time when Disney produced great family entertainment. Then they took a turn where they decided to attack everything Walt Disney believed in. You can see it coming where instead of talking up the great story they lead by attacking fans who may not like the movie and call them names if they don't see the movie.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Thank you for saving my summer
In a world that is so filled with bad news this movie saved my summer. Tom Cruise is truly the last action hero. Starting it with a thank you for seeing it in the theatre was a class act. There are not enough superlatives to describe this movie. It's not that the story is deep but it is the epic experience you want from Top Gun. Where I loved the original in the 80s Maverick manages to surpass it in every way which is saying a lot. I am so glad I saw it in the theatre.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
A wonderful experience
This movie is a wonderful experience. It has been some time since I felt such a powerful experience buy a film. IT is not preaching anything political at you. It is just a wonderful tale of family love.
Scot Squad (2014)
Very enjoyable and informative
I really like this series. It is very funny and at the same time very informative. I have never been a criminal but I have been thinking about it. Being a criminal here in the states doesn't sound very fun but after seeing this series I think I would really like to be a criminal in Scotland. Thanks for the encouragement!
Dave (1993)
Wonderful experience
Dave is one of those movies that simply makes you feel good. It has great writing and fun characters. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously. It's just fun! Give up your sense of logic and just enjoy this movie. You'll be glad you did.
Pine Gap (2018)
Not good but not bad
I watched all six episodes so it clearly isn't all bad. It does come off feeling like a bad propaganda piece but that isn't my real complaint. This had enough good material for a two hour made for TV movie but someone decided to stretch two hours into six. It just moved so slowly with so much boring filler that it was difficult to stay with it. If you've got six hours to kill then you will enjoy watching the show, but don't set your expectations too high.
Geostorm (2017)
Truly a motivational film for me!
I am a long time movie fan and have read IMDb reviews for many years. While enjoying IMDb for years I have never had the motivation to write a review....until now! This movie was so bad I was motivated to write my first review. This movie isn't bad in the sense of B movie camp. This movie takes itself seriously while having nothing serious about quality. The writing was stupid, the acting was terrible, and the special effects amateurish. But the worst thing of all was the silly theme behind the whole movie. I generally think even bad movies have some highlight. This movie has the amazing achievement of having not a single redeeming moment anywhere!
