Lawman (1971)
Watch it for the dialogue if not for the moral ambiguity
Was this adapted or was it an original screenplay by Mr. Wilson? I caught it again last night on Prime and. Found myself Paying unusually close attention to the dialog. Amazing work. It helps when you've got Burt Lancaster, Robert Ryan, and Lee J. Cobb mouthing your words, but I was knocked out by the consistently clever idioms employed that never hit a false note or leaked sentimentality. Best dialogue since Tombstone. Profundity from the mouths of cowhands, ex-prostitues, and burned-out lawmen? Not the easiest of writerly tasks, but pulled off artfully by Mr. Wilson. I may have been in a generous mood last night, but it seemed to me that the overall production nicely balanced action and character development. Had never heard of Wilson before; Anybody know of other scripts he has pulled off this well?
Hummingbird (2013)
Artful application of action elements
I've been a fan of Statham since his Transporter days, but never have I seen him play so complex and conflicted a character. This was my first exposure to Agata Buzak, but she was perfect. Crafty use of action elements to keep things moving and still reveal dimensional characters. Mr. Knight gets credit for an amazing script that
squeezed out earnest sentiment while keeping the characters honest. I've watched 2X now and it just gets better.
The Nest (1987)
Perfectly fine genre flick
Five stars puts it well ahead of syfy''s featuring crawlies, but doesn't exaggerate its craftsmanship.
