Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: Truth Embargo (2024)
A Victim of Rape is a Victim no matter what
A victim of rape is a victim of rape and the person who raped the person is a rapist. That's the end of the story.
Demographic characteristics should NEVER be part of the equation. Unfair treatment of blacks and other minorities in the judicial system is also a huge issue. I have no problem with story lines that focus on this.
Conflating the two into this storyline does an injustice to victims of sexual assault regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, age, etc.
There was a time not long ago when wives could not charge their husbands for rape because they were married.
It's 2024 so why does a show that focuses on victims of sexual crimes decide to throw this in the mix? It's bad enough that most victims on sexual assault never report - how is this going to help that? It's not, it is detrimental to victims.
As a victim myself, this has interfered with my sleeping - nightmares.
NCIS: Los Angeles: Indentured (2021)
Not the same show...
I loved this show for a number of years.
I am all for different stories with different political slants if they are well written, even if they are different than my own.
I couldn't even get through the first 15 minutes of this episode because it was so ham fisted and had a clear political agenda with absolutely not a single ounce of nuance,
Let's Be Real (2020)
Long overdue equal opportunity mocking of politicians and celebrities
It has been at least 20 years since I watched a "sketch" comedy that made made fun of politicians and celebrities regardless of their political leanings. I am in my 50's and I enjoyed SNL up until about 1999 because they mocked everyone equally. I miss those simpler times where people could laugh at themselves, laugh at comedy (realizing it is comedy) and not get offended by way too many innocuous things.
In other words, you can mock my favorite politician(s) or his/her opponents equally and I can laugh at it all if it is done well.
The previews/trailers for the show were not good and missed the mark. I only watched it by chance, so Fox might want to rethink their commercials for the show.
Gutfeld! (2021)
Real Talk and Opinions From Multiple Viewpoints
I so missed Red Eye when it went off the air. It was a gem. The guests came from all different viewpoints (left and right) but yet, they were equally good as mocking others with different viewpoints as they were at mocking themselves and others that are like them.
Gutfeld is good, but a piece of the magic is gone, but there is a glimmer of hope. I think Red Eye was lightening in a bottle, a unique point in time, before the extreme polarization of our politics. All mockery was allowed, regardless of your political viewpoint, much like the SNL of the 70's and early 90's where mocking politicians was funny no matter who they were or what party they were from.
Everyone needs a laugh at the end of day, and everyone is free to pick their personal cup of tea, because we are blessed to live in a free country (unlike many, many other countries). That should never be taken for granted.
If one day I forget to laugh at the absurd, no matter where or whom it comes from, that will be a sad day...
