Grind (2003)
I think it's great
I agree with another comment that the critics shouldn't have torn this movie apart like some others! It wasn't all that bad. There were those random parts that you don't think should be in there, but it is a funny movie that you can never get sick of!
The crowd that I believe the film is aiming for are those struggling athletes or skaters. There is supposed to be a little more struggle than what they put in, but it isn't a drama, it's comedy. Mike Vogel played his part well, along with Adam Brody. Most of the skating was stunt men, but there were those little scenes where the actors would actually have to skate! These actors actually took plenty of training to learn how to pull off the skating.
This is a movie that you can watch with your friends over and over again and never get sick of!
North Country (2005)
Outstanding Movie
I have had the privilege of being on the set while this was being filmed, and I got to see the movie with behind-the-scenes information. This movie was truly amazing because it brought in how women struggle even after laws were passed. When the movie brings it in a harsh form, it brings it through reality. That WAS how these women were treated, and that WAS how they handled it. The movie added more drama and interest to make it better.
When asked if it were too long, think about the director of this film: Niki Caro. Niki likes to work at her own pace, and does not want to rush anything at all. If a scene was taken out of the film the pace would be uneven and would make the film worse. The pace was just how it was meant to be set.
Each actress met their parts perfectly, including Frances McDormand, Charlize Theron, Woody Harrelson, and Sean Bean. Frances McDormand really stood out to me. Her acting blew the audience away and added a rich performance to the film. I wouldn't be able to choose any other actress to perform the part as well as she does!
My over-all comment about North Country is that it truly is an amazing film and a great experience to go see. It really leaves a deep impact on the reader afterwards. It doesn't deserve just one acadamy award, but many!
