Air (I) (2023)
9/10
Just like "Air Jordan" the "Air" movie flies high!
18 March 2023
Let's start with the script, Alex Convery knew how to wrote a plot driven script with reasonable characters. It's constantly going and growing.

Ben Affleck showed us at "Argo" that for plot driven real life stories, he is an excelent storyteller. Once again he knew how to tell the story with complete excitement and great character works. Cast has been used wonderfully, Affleck made sure to brought them to life. It's like one of those classic movies that you know how it's going to end, but you still wanna see every scene and every nuance of it. Ben Affleck's first non-crime film looks like it'll be a cinema classic, hope to see more of these stuff from Ben.

Film has both stylish and realistic look on it's cinematography, thanks to second time collabration between Robert Richardson and Ben Affleck. (First one Live by Night) And we all know that Ben Affleck is an filmmaking nerd, he has editing machines at his house and loves working in the editing room, with his best editing oscar winner for "Argo" collabrator William Goldenberg, they have created a fast moving, inspiring cut with Jordan's story.

Let's talk about the stars: Matt Damon is doing what he does best, a hero that is not flawless, more realistic, and constantly knows he is a humanbeing. We have seen this kind of works from Matt Damon, but this time, he looks soo relaxed doing it. You'll see that Sonny Vacaro should only played by him.

Ben Affleck's Phil Knight is funny, sarcastic and realistic. Later in his career he took roles like "Cont Pierre" at "The Last Duel" and "Uncle Charlie" at "The Tender Bar" in both of these movies he was the sarcastic supporting role that stole the show everytime he was on the screen, and he has done it again. Ben Affleck completely knows how to cast himself.

Jason Bateman's comedic touch is superb. His character was like a bit ordinary company men, but he has givin a fresh touch to that 2D part. This maybe the best example how to use Jason Bateman in a movie.

Chris Tucker was adorable in the movie, he may not have a big role in this, but every scene he is in, you'll feel his magic. Ben Affleck created a comfort zone for him where he could do some "Chris Tucker" stuff without ruining the reality of the movie.

And of course Viola Davis... Michael Jordan's only wish for the movie was Viola Davis playing his mother. And Viola Davis did something special here. Incredible realistic mother portrail with strong woman presence, Vialo Davis made one of her best works here.

As an ensemble, with Chris Messina and Marlon Wayans, everyone is so authantic and reasonable.

"Air" is something living, moving and inspirational at the same time. Ben Affleck pulled something special from his directing hat once again. Hope to see more of these kinds of dramas from Hollywood.

Could have been amazing, but Style over Drama ruined it.
29 September 2022
Director Andrew Dominic made sure that every frame of the film is his %100 own personal choices, so it's a director driven film. But his choices created a huge problem, Marilyn Monroe is a big iconic figure, and this is a biopic, you have to tell what she left to the world. We see so little about the influence she had on the planet. All we sae about this was some crowd photographers trying to get pictures of Monroe with some slow motion.

With this in mind, Andrew's "trying to be breathtaking stylistic" scenes created a fake envoriment around Monroe. These made this rich story look unforgivable amount of cheap. Right at the start the childhood scenes were so alienazing for the viewers. And constantly changing aspect ratio's and colors were not interesting, it looked desperate. If this movie is not like any other biopic we have seen, if this is a director driven art piece, it should have it's own climax parts or narrative, this story didn't deserve a nearly 3 hours of runtime.

Let's talk about Ana; Ana de Armas is the best choice in the history of the world to play the Monroe. She analized her really well and she was very convincing. But, writing of the film didn't help Ana at all. Lack of realism, and other than that, there were so many unnecessary long scenes. Those moments with not enough interesting material made Ana look bad and cringe at some parts.

Overall, with great production design, great cast and crew, there was a oportunity to become a classic movie. But heavy stylistic writing/directing moves with unnecesarry long runtime and forgetable soundtracks, this movie lost it's chance.

Not the best Adrian Lyne thriller, but Affleck's lead saves the day.
19 March 2022
Erotic-Thriller is Adrian Lyne's safest place, he has proved that he is the master of this genre. But in this film there is a little bit of problem with it. I heard that original cut was 2h and 33m. If this is true the 1h 55m cut may be the problem, because the "thriller" elements of this movie are there only for 4/1 of the movie. It is a good drama and a good adaption of the book, but it's really cold and un-understandable in some places. Ana de Armas character Melinda is not a 3D character, she's just there to flirt with people and laugh. Writing bit at Melinda's part is very weak, it's not Ana's fault she was good, but her character didn't had any point or reason. Camera work was good, it had Adrian Lyne's touch, stylistic in some places and rich.

Best thing about this movie was the lead, Vic Van Allen was perfect fit. Ben Affleck is always right for these kinds of cast choices. After The Way Back and The Town, this might be his one of the best performances. We knew what this character had in his mind, we knew what he was thinking, we knew he was kind of a bad guy but we wanted him to get away with his crimes. Lyne and Affleck created a good drama so overall it's a solid 8. But if you want an classic Erotic-Thriller Lyne classic like Fatal Attraction, this is not it...

Ridley Scott is the Master of this Genre for a reason
17 September 2021
After Good Will Hunting I was shocked why Ben Affleck and Matt Damon didn't write any screenplay together. Well, our wait is over because they have done a brave move, but this time it doesn't have that Hollywood storytelling vibe on it. This time, it is more experimental and different, they went for a new storytelling wave. (with help of Nicole Holofcener) Best director you can find for this kind of visual storytelling is Ridley Scott, and believe me, he's still top of his game. To be honest I don't think that Gladiator was a best picture because of Ridley's effort, I think it was Russel's incredible performance. But this movie shines because of Ridley's awesome visual style.

To talk about performances in this movie, Jodie has the lead, she can get awards buzz after this film. She plays her character from different perspectives, it is not an easy thing to do but Jodie does it beautifuly. Matt Damon makes his mark, after Ben Affleck's drop from the other lead role Adam Diver tooks it and I got to say it is an impressive casting, because, as a antagonist Adam has that villain look real good. Ben Affleck steals the show everytime he is on the screen, just like in Good Will Hunting his side character is real fun to watch.

Overall it is really a brave movie, Hollywood doesn't make these kinds of movies, but they should make these kinds of auteur movies more...

It could have been better but it's not that bad.

Warner bros. Clearly tried to copy Deadpool's way at this movie. Evan was amazing as black mask with Chris Messina's great performance. Villains in this movie were great, there were a lot of problems at character developments. Harley Quinn's story was not interesting, but the editing of this movie made it enjoyable to watch. That's all have fun while watching it.

It is not like any other sports movies!
20 March 2020
Ben Affleck proves he is a oscar worthy actor not just oscar worthy filmmaker. When you start to watch the movie you don't want to miss any frame of it. Very moving, touching, emotional, it is a living picture. Gavin O Connor shows he is one of the best at this job, he is not a ordinary film director. Some people say that it is a cliche sports movie but it's not.

Heist movie at it's best
12 March 2020
One of the best heist movies ever. Because it's not about action and cool scenes it is a very good drama movie with good direction and perfect performances. Usualy novel adaption films are not good as the novels itself but this one is so great that you won't even like the book after seeing this. Actors did their best works when they are giving life to their characters. Affleck proved that he is A+ writer, A+ director and A+ actor. Action scenes were awesome, they felt like movie has a blockbuster budget. Well done Boston guy!

Rare made art!
12 March 2020
It is not easy to be witness this kind of an art craft. Mr Affleck showed us why he is one of the best directors out there. Movie has 3 awesome tones, CIA operation tone, Hollywood fun tone and thrilling Iran part. Well directed, well performances, everything in this movie is brilliant. One of the best, best picture winner movie, for me it is the best one because of the craft.
