Nuestros amantes (2016)
What were they thinking!? Just terrible.
Is not that the acting was bad...but the writing was so terrible that no actor could have saved this! All the dialogues were the complete opposite of how two humans interact. I felt like I was listening to 2 people reading text messages for two hours...and to be fair I've read better text messages on my phone whilst "watching" this. Yes. It was THAT bad. Don't waste your time.
Tightly Wound (2018)
A much needed short-film on a topic that isn't spoken about enough!
It took me ages to find this underated short and since it's giving me the strength to speak up about my own on going story with vaginismus. I even reached out to Shelby herself and I hope more young girls and women in general do the same. It's so important to talk about these issues, specially because when you're going through something as intimate as this you feel completely alone and hopeless. As a young aspiring writer/filmmaker I hope to portray my story sometime soon as honestly and beautifully as Shelby did. I thank everyone involved in this film and Shelby for her bravery (because honestly there should be more audiovisual material out there about painful and all the problems related to this!). From a recent film graduates perspective I also want to point out that these types of taboo themes are much more complicated to explain through entertainment, making a short film about boy-meets-girl for example, is really easy if you think about it, but to make a film like this engaging when it can be a painful and even disturbing thing to portray - now that takes not just courage, but talent! True fan and I hope to offer another perspective next to "Tightly Wound" in the future.

Unicorn Store (2017)
Sincerely, a waste of space.
It fails in too many angles. It seems like it can't decide who its audience is. Is it coming of age?Kind-of-decent-at-a-few-times comedy for all ages? Or a 5 year olds idea of a good script concept for a film? It's a film about a "manic pixie chic" (who is actually a five year old with many mental issues) that REALLY wants a pony. No really. That's it. Samuel L. Jackson must have been drunk or something while shooting this, because apart from his character being completely bland, it was acted out as an annoying and truly boring perspective. I hate giving films a grade out of 10, I think it's something too specific for an element of entertainment that can be analysed from so many points of view... But... Having said that, I do believe an easy way to think about an outcome of a film from the viewer's point of view is:
A) Does it deserve a second viewing/ WOULD I watch it again
B) Did it deserve A viewing AT ALL / Could I have spared from watching it / IF I could go back in time would I watch it again / DO I regret watching it?
C) DID I even as a very avid and passionate viewer of films that I am NEED A SCAPE GOAT while watching the film?
Well.... I'm giving it a 2/10 because as a directing debut from Larson, it's not awful... Although the story (from my point of view) ABSOLUTELY is... and the acting is not that great either... Adequate wouldn't cover it to be honest...
It's one of those films during which you're going to be reaching out for your phone in hopes to entertain yourself, wondering while you're still watching and hoping that you had taken the time to watch something better instead... Or at least just for your age gap. Pretty sure My Little Pony would be a much more sane and entertaining approach to this... And that's just a wild guess.
