Evan Almighty (2007)
Why Did This Rate So Low!?
What a wonderful film! I can highly recommend it. I'm a male in my mid 30's, I usually watch gory horror or the Marx Brothers films, but I loved it! :) Felt like a return to good old fashioned family entertainment.
(Unlike the disappointment in recent films such as, "Transformers", which you'll end up explaining to your child what mastebation is, due to a very poor taste joke. What young boy wouldn't want to see giant robots fight, or a Dad for that matter that remembers it from his younger days wanting to share that with his young son, but I digress!)
I don't think it's a spoiler to say there wasn't one swear word, as far as I could tell. (The word, "Penis", is used twice, the context is informational about animals.)

It is about a man and his relationship with God and also his family. It also deals with doing what God wants you to do when everyone is laughing at you, even if you can't see where God is going with the situation. (For those reading this I'm being super careful not to spoil anything plot wise... however...)
The interesting thing too is the way it brings the old story to life, in the sense that Noah must have had to deal with similar adversities in his society and even with his own family. You can't tell me back then that Noah didn't have to contend with, "Oh, so God told you to do it!?" (What a loony!) Behind his back.
It was done really tastefully, really well done. It had the potential to offend Christians and doesn't, in fact God is shown in a truthfully loving light! On the other hand it had the potential to offend Atheists, but it shouldn't due to the non forceful way it deals with the topic matter.

Kids will love it for the animals and the funny situations and adults will enjoy the clean and clever one liners. It's a feel good film and as far as I'm concerned it's been along time since I felt this good about a film! Enjoy the film, I know I did! :)
Say It Isn't So (2001)
Funniest film in a long time! Sorta cult classic!
When was the last time you saw a funny film? I'm old school, Pink Panther, Monty Python and more British type obscure humour. I have to say in maybe the last possibly even 20 years there's been very few films that have made me laugh.
This is a good film people, I don't see why it rated so lowly. Yes, a couple of scenes are fairly gross, but the shock value is brilliantly done, something I can't say for American films usually. Sufficed to say this movie is not for children.
The characters are brilliant, the central love story boy and girl are small town USA naive; "Dig" (Orlando Jones), is mind blowingly crazy. The girls father is clever, maybe a little over done. Sally Field is terrifically awful, you can't fault her performance, but maybe they would have done better with an unknown, sorry to say she seems to drag the film down. Her eventual downfall isn't very satisfying, because you've already seen it. Something that seems to get missed these days is character development, but somehow in this film the characters are strong and you feel for the leads.
I think you have to be in a certain mood for this film and understand that you are looking at 2 very naive / simple people and the world around them is very judgmental of them in a bad way and if they just had each other that love would keep them happy.
A love story that will make you cry, some wacky characters and freak me out shock laughs, some weak points, and a surprisingly funny American film, which is a rare thing. Watch it!
