Girls Trip (2017)
8/10
most beautiful comedy film I've ever seen
29 August 2023
"Girls trip" was better than I expected in 2017, and still leaves that impression on me 6 years later. This movie was hilarious from start to finish! The actresses did an amazing job. Their chemistry on screen makes their friendship feel genuine and believable.

And the dance battle scene in the club was iconic! It was my favorite part because I think it was was directly referencing White Chicks.

I admit I'm a little easy to please, but that does not take away the positive message of the movie which addresses relatable themes such as maintaining strong friendships and rediscovering yourself. "Girls Trip" exploring the personal struggles of the characters adds depth to the comedic elements.

Overall, this is a lighthearted film about the power of female friendships, self-discovery, embracing authenticity, forgiveness and healing, and celebrating life. Besides, life is a lot of things, but experiencing love is the purpose of being alive.

This movie deserves an 8/10 rating! Definitely does not deserve that 6/10 rating.

Too many Latino stereotypes but has good central themes
28 August 2023
This movie is predictable but it's not a bad thing. I've loved this movie as a kid but wanted to write a critical review as an adult. Lots of the dialogue is corny but can't complain because it's cute. It's also funny.

First off, setting up the story is poorly done for this movie. The writers failed to set up the story by excluding important details eg: it's not explained how Lina's Mom and rich stepdad met since they come from different socioeconomic worlds. So how did they meet?

In general, the characters need more depth, but maybe there's an exception for a cheerleading movie. The character growth is underdeveloped but central themes of love, friendship, and family kept this movie together.

The acting is good, but the scenes didn't make sense eg: How did these teenagers have their party at a club? Yet sodas were on the tables lol. The characters were over the top with Latino stereotypes from East LA. But I LOVE the dancing, LOVE the music, and Christina Millan is hot when she appears on the screen. And I love Lina's friends!

My biggest complaint is that the movie has too many Latino stereotypes throughout. Overall, this movie deserved it's current 5/10 rating because the consistent stereotypes were offensive and uncomfortable to watch.

Anyway, I hope my review was helpful :)
